This is a question close to my heart. ;)

Over time, I tried a few different solutions for this. My answer is it really depends how many scarfs you have and how often do you wear scarves.

I used a flat scarf hanger similar to what Angie suggested. It worked great until I needed more than a few of them. (Scarves are sentimental items for me as most of mine are inherited or gifts so I tend to accumulate them.) Along with my costume jewelry and belts also hanging next to it, the accessories took half a rack in my walk in closet.

Once this solution was too bulky, I tried my husbands extra tie hanger for a while. Since it holds more and is less bulky in space, it worked to save space. But I wear scarves often and messing with the wires of the tie hanger evening and morning made me seek for a new solution.

Then I used sock organizers that I normally use for my socks and underwear. (http://www.containerstore.com/.....d=10000146) This worked great for silk scarves. You can roll the scarf so there is no line when you unroll it before wearing.

For pashminas and thicker scarves, I simply fold them and pile them in a clear cube drawers so I can see the colors top to bottom.

Sorry for the long post!

I have 3 of the Ikea style RoseandJoan shows above. One for silky scarves, one for more pashmina-ish-heavier scarves and I use one for camisoles. You can just grab it off your closet rack and have a quick peak at everything! Love mine....

My scarves are draped over the arm of a reading lamp at the moment; it look too hippyish though (the lamp is not used so no safety issues) the next time I'm at ikea I will be grabbing this

Another over-the-door hook person. I use that for the long rectangular scarves that are SO popular now and keep them on the back of my closet door.

I still fold the square silk scarves and set the folded scarves in a basket. I can't see them all at once though and have been rethinking them. I may look into a clear Rubbermaid type bin, so they can stay stacked and I can 'see' all my options.

I received these hangers as a gift (okay, I suggested them as a gift before I actually received them )

http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp......ne-Hangers

See how they can be "cascaded" by hanging one off the other? I put my scarves one to a hanger (folded, draped over the bar of the hanger, the way pants come back from the drycleaner) and then cascaded them four deep. I can still reach in and get the one I want without disturbing the others, so it's working well so far.

Nice solution from Kim. Storing scarves all jumbled up in a basket is not the best idea because you have to rummage through to find things, and things get creased. Plus, you forget about them.

I suggest special scarf hangers to my clients. A hanger like this is another good idea:

http://images.containerstore.c.....ural_l.jpg

http://home-decor-store.biz/pi.....set-of.jpg

This hanger works for thicker scarves:

http://www.wardrobesupplies.co.....955130.jpg

Personally, I fold our scarves (Greg wears scarves too) into small rectangles and keep them in piles in our wardrobe. That way I can see all the colours at once.

I think Queenie has a great solution. I have tried those scarf hangers where you pull them through circles, but many crease that way. I have quite a few scarves in plastic shoe or sweater boxes, as well. This works ok, but there is the potential for more creases perhaps that hanging them over a pants hanger. Also takes up more room!

Sometimes I drape a summer scarf on the hanger with the piece I'd wear it with. Mostly these scarves are stored by color in clear plastic boxes. (Yes, I've got way too many scarves!) If folded carefully they don't get wrinkled. I usually hang the scarf with the outfit I plan to wear the night before I wear it and spritz any wrinkles on outfit or scarf with a bit of wrinkle release spray. It's ready to put on the next day.
