Thanks for the link Tanya. I just may get that top. Which color do you have? I think I like "link black" the best.

By the way, this is the skirt I got. It’s the middle one on the bottom row (only in black not grey): http://www.expressfashion.com/.....groupid=13

My swimsuit is this one: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/o.....ce=SwimReg

And there is no picture of the top since it's from JCPenney outlet. I'll post one soon though. I've already worn it twice, once to a family dinner and once to the store, but no pictures yet.

Hopefuly I'll be going back to the mall tomorow.

Great start Sarah! I am so happy for you! I'm sorry you have not had any luck with the tops. I can recommend a great Sweat Pea one ( that I'm wearing today) that is currently on huge sale online for $22 if you don't mind online shopping. I can't get the link to work but please go to http://www.smartbargains.com and look for Sweet Pea 3/4 Sleeve Mesh Wrap Top. It runs very small so I wear size S in it!

As they say "every beggining is difficult" but I'm sure it will get better and better every next time!

Edit: Hmm, even the search does not bring it up. Just go to women's apparel section of the site and under brands to Sweat Pea and you'll see it with that title- it's the only one that comes in four colors!

Hey Sarah,

Macy's house brand INC had quite a few wrap style tops and "waist accentuating" tops when I hit them over the weekend. They were on sale too. Just wanted to give you a heads up as I feel so overwhelmed in department stores that I sometimes lose focus.

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouraging words Nicole. Saturday was just one of those days that started out wrong (with me spilling pear juice all over the kitchen and having to mop the floor before I could leave), and it just didn't go quite right from there. Hopefully I will be able to find more shopping time and have fun with my wardrobe overhaul this summer.

Sarah, now that you're done school for the semester, hopefully you can find more time in your schedule to go shopping. Don't let the need for clothes take all the fun out of this experience. This whole process should make you feel special, not frustrated. And remember, when you're looking for something specific and can't find one that fits your right--it's not YOU. Think of the hunt for the perfect item as a challenge and enjoy the process!

Now that Saturday is a few days behind me I'm satisfied with the little bit of success I had, Maya. It was a bit of a discouraging day then though. I will be sure and post pictures sometime soon. I don't have the denim skirt and red heels for the BR cardi yet, but those are at the top of my list. Hopefully I'll find them on my next trip to the hugemongous mall. I'll also keep my eye out for clamdiggers. I have one pair of capris that I may shorten, but they are a bit big, so I will probably pass them on to somebody else, or add them to the at home only clothes pile. It's a great feeling to be done with my first closet purge in a while. I'm sure it is an ongoing project, Becky. And yes, I do have a few things that I'm keeping until I find something to replace them.

It's a good feeling to have the closet purge done, isn't it? However, I keep finding that my purge is ongoing. Just when I think I'm finished, something else crops up that is wrong in some way. Truthfully, there would be very little left in my closet if I were ruthless, but I know I can't get rid of some of the items till I buy something else to wear!

It's always a rocky journey when you're just starting out, but it sounds like you had some success. I hope we get to see some pictures! I would love to see that skirt you got with your yellow BR cardigan and those red heels whenever you find them. I think you would look amazing in clamdiggers so definitely keep an eye out for them to wear with your pink tunic!

Hello ladies. I haven't been on here much lately because of finals and other end-of-the-semester projects. I finished up the semester last Wednesday though, and since then I've been cleaning out my closet. After working at it for 5 months I've finally finished. Angie's posts on the topic have helped me so much. I now have a huge bin of clothes to donate and quite the pile of things to get altered. I also have a few questionable items to ask about on here, but that's another story for another forum discussion.

Now that I know what is lacking and/or needs updating in my wardrobe, I've started shopping. Saturday was dedicated to going to the mall and finding several things on my list. Unfortunately, the day didn't go quite as planned. I didn't get out of the house until afternoon, stoped at JCPenney Outlet on the way to the mall (and looked at clothes and furniture) and only spent about 2 hours shopping at a mall I could spend all day at. So this is shopping trip #1 for me; I plan to go back again soon to look at other stores and hopefully pick up several of the items I missed. Here is my news for now, for anyone who's interested.

At JCPenney Outlet I got a fun pink tunic to wear with jeans (or clam-diggers when I have some). It was only $10 and fits nicely even though it wasn't what I was looking for.

At the mall, I stopped at American Eagle and found a cute swim suit. Express didn't have any fabulous waist-emphasizing Tanya-like tops, which is the main thing I'm searching for at the moment. But I found a lovely high waisted black skirt that I can wear either with a blousy top tucked in or a regular top untucked. I was pleased with that purchase despite the fact that the skirt is dry clean only, which is something I try to avoid.

Banana Republic, Britches, New York and Co., and XXI had absolutely nothing on my list. I was particularly overwhelmed by XXI. Speaking of which, is that the same as Forever 21? The merchandise certainly seemed similar. In general stores seem to have gone overboard with the high-waisted trend on skirts, and it's difficult to find anything else except skirts with massive gathers or pleats that overwhelm me at 5'2". I wanted one high-waisted pencil skirt, but now that I have it, I want my other skirts to be in different styles, which seem hard to find at the moment.

I also stopped at Sephora and tried out the tinted moisturizer that was recommended to me moths ago on a topic here. Sadly, it didn't give me nearly enough coverage.

That's my long report from Saturday. Hopefully, I'll have more and better news soon. I'm on the lookout for waist-emphasizing tops, a few updated skirts (including a dark denim pencil skirt), red patent heels, and dark wash jeans that I can wear with heels. The mall I visited on Saturday is not one I frequent, but I will probably be going back several times in the next few weeks. It has 5 department stores (two Dillards, Macy's, JCPenney, and Nordstrom) and a ton of other stores, so there is plenty to look at. I just have to keep at it. Thank you everyone for the encouragement on my style journey.
