Thanks for the suggestions Lannie. I’ve thought about getting a tie wrack to hang necklaces like Angie has suggested on the blog. Some things in that pile of boxes are necklaces and some are earrings; some are sets. My jewelry box has a nice place to hang necklaces, but most of them that I have in there are too long for the tiny space and all get tangled. My earrings that aren’t in boxes are all thrown in one of the jewelry box drawers together, so it’s difficult to find pairs. As a result, I hardly ever where jewelry. Also I have a lot of “fine jewelry” and hardly any fashion jewelry. Most of my stuff is tiny silver and gold stuff that you can’t see from five feet away. I need to do a jewelry overhaul, because there is a lot of stuff in there that I never wear, particularly gold necklaces.

Tide is making hangers that have very wide plastic shoulder bars with airflow holes in them. We only have a couple but I've been using them for blazers and cardigans and they work great! No puffy spots on the shoulders.
Sarah, I'm not sure how much of that jewellery in the original boxes are necklaces, but if you were to set up some hooks or even find one of those necklace trees, that could do the trick. I keep rings, earrings, and my silver bracelets in a jewellery box, but it's pretty much at maximum capacity right now so I think I'll need to edit my jewellery collection soon.

I love your shoe shelves. I would like to do that in my closet. It looks like your closet is very organized and you can find what you need.
I would like to know more about good hangers also. I have gotten rid of all wire hangers and bought plastic. I also take home the store hangers if they offer them to me. I still get puffs in the shoulder area of some tops though and don't know what kind of hanger would prevent that. I'd like to know if someone knows of a great hanger.

I’ve finally take pictures of our closets. Since the closet thread was so long already, I decided to start my own. Keep in mind that my husband and I live in a small one bedroom apartment, so we store much more than clothes in our closets. We both have a lot of stuff and there is just no place else to put it all. The apartment does have three closets though (two small and one larger) and a linen closet, so I don’t have to share mine. My closet is about 60” width by 30” depth. I have no clue what the height is, but the shelves are pretty far up there. I can reach the lower shelf, but the upper one I need a ladder for. My husband’s closet is 39” by 33” and the coat closet looks to be about the same size as his.

Here is the coat closet from the outside:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2622.jpg
And here is the inside with all of our coats:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2621.jpg
The coat closet also has other random things in it like coolers, winter boots, a bucket for mopping the floor, a box of candles, a step ladder etc. You get the picture. Everything we can’t find a place for elsewhere. :)

This is my hubby’s little closet:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2620.jpg
It’s the perfect size for him, because he doesn’t like to have a lot of clothes. Other than clothes, his closet has two shelves full of books, the vacuum, a space heater, his telescope, and some luggage. I don’t think you can really see those in the picture though, with the exception of the books.

Here are my boots on top the shoe wrack:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2618.jpg
my shoes:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2617.jpg
a few spare hangers hanging above:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2619.jpg

This is the right half of my closet:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2616.jpg
I have belts and scarves on the far right, followed by longer sleeved tops that are still wearable this time of year and a couple for cooler days that occasionally happen here in Missouri unexpectedly. Next are my spring and summer tops the ones on the right are the most dressy and the ones further to the left are more casual.

This is the left side of my closet:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2615.jpg
Here I have skirts and pants (a few of which I’m still hanging on to until I have replacements even though I can never get myself to wear them now that I know they are unflattering). Next is my senior recital dress, the silver cloak I made (even though it’s certainly more of a formal wear thing—really should store it away), my choir dress, and my wedding dress—need a box for that. The little hook on the wall holds my feather duster and the parasol with my name painted on it that I carried to shield myself from flying birdseed on my wedding day. :)

My closet shelves, left:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2613.jpg
and right:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2612.jpg
They contain shoes and purses for formal occasions, as well as long white gloves and a box full of two tiaras and other pretty special occasion hair pieces. I also store my box of patterns up there, the music books I am not currently using, school books I want to keep, and a few other random things. Oh yes, and my hats, which I don’t wear nearly often enough anymore.

On the floor
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2614.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2611.jpg
I have a laundry basket that contains some spare purses, things that need to go to the dry cleaners, character shoes, and stage makeup. I also have a crate full of who-knows-what that I need to go through, and my music portfolio.

These are the bins where I store my clothes for the season we are not currently in, right now, winter:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2623.jpg
Actually, each of them is partially full of clothes and partially full of other things, so I need to reorganize them and see if I can fit all the clothes in one bin and the other things in the second bin.

Finally, my jewelry:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2610.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2609.jpg
I’ve yet to discover an efficient way to store jewelry. Right now much of it is in its original boxes and my most recent purchases have not even found a home yet.

Besides jewelry storage, one thing I would like advice on is hangers. I have stopped using wire hangers because they have created lumps on the shoulders of some of my clothes. Are the plastic ones I’m using alright? If not, I can’t replace them all at once, but I certainly could a few at a time.
