Yes Becky, you are 100% right. We are in a similar situation. I have a closet full of clothes (and some in boxes under my bed and some still at my parents’ house until we have a bigger apartment or house), but very little that fits me well and is right for my body type. Yes, we do have to have something to wear while we are working on building a good wardrobe, but I don’t need as many outfits as I have now. That’s why I’m purging my closet. And I’m so glad I have this forum full of fashion-wise ladies to get advice from.

I’m glad so many people like Friday’s outfit. That’s my artsy side coming out. I am a singer after all. I love fun things like that, but I also love feminine/romantic outfits like the one I wore Sunday. Angie, I knew you were going to say that about the long skirts. I think they are a part of my signature style though. I do plan to get rid of those I consider unflattering though and just keep ones like the green flowered one I wore on Sunday. And I plan to add many more knee-length skirts to my collection. Actually, I’m working on posting pictures of my massive skirt collection for advice on which ones to get rid of and which ones to keep.

Antje is right; in general my clothes are too big. Most of the pieces that actually fit me are things I’ve bought since December when I started reading YLF. Thank you Angie and friends. :)

I’m also glad to hear positive feedback on the suit. I’ll definitely have it altered and wear it frequently.

It’s funny that this dress is just a little longer than the pink one I wore last week, because they are the same dress. I did notice that before though and I plan on having it hemmed. Thank you Angie and Tanya for the tip on the trench. I switched to the denim jacket half-way though the day because the trench just didn’t look right with it. The silver trench does seem to go well with dark jeans and a dark top. Then it pops. Thank you Shell for the suggestion of fun accessories with the dress.

Tanya, I actually agree that Monday’s (dark blue ankle length) skirt isn’t flattering. I’ve worn if for years, but now I’m not fond of it. I guess the reason I’ve kept it and the others like it in denim, khaki, and green for so long is that they seem to go with everything. Thanks to Angie’s post on the skirt rule today I know how to match tops to skirts now, so I don’t need skirts that “go with everything.”

Thank you ladies for all the feed-back.

Sarah, I think you and I are in much the same situation. I have many items of clothing in my closet I know don't fit well or don't work for whatever reason (shape, length, etc.), but I do have to have something to wear while I'm (slowly) replacing them! You are developing an eye for what works and what doesn't, and of course you always get great advice from the fab ladies here. When you do make new purchases, you'll know exactly what to look for.

i have to say, most of the ladies here are spot on with their comments! i think the dress looks lovely with the denim blazer - i'd jazz it up with some accessories though. probably a belt and necklace would be your best bet. also, the friday sweater does look very cute the way you have it styled - i would suggest pairing it with dark skinny jeans.

looks like you're really progressing with some of your newer purchases - it's just difficult trying to blend them into some of your existing pieces. it seems like you have some very conservative pieces in your wardrobe (the long skirts, boxy blouses, etc.) that you should work on weeding out. you can still do some conservative looks that don't show much skin without sacrificing the right shape or style for your body. i think the best thing for you to do is just go shopping and try on a bunch of different styles and shapes - you don't have to buy everything right away, but it will help you figure out what items to invest in. you may even realize you have similar pieces in your own closet that you can make work!

Hi Sarah, my favorite is Friday's outfit, I really like that sweater (and the belted look) and it's one of those unique looks not everyone could pull off.
In general, I would really like to encourage you to wear smaller and tighter fitting clothes. You have a great body, but currently you're drowning in your clothes (skirts and pants alike). Go 2 sizes smaller and you'll instantly increase your style quotient!

Thanks for posting Sarah (and for smiling). Here we go:

o	You are not going to want to hear this but you need to say goodbye to ALL long skirts. Sorry (sad face). They overwhelm you completely and are not flattering. Once you wear a shorter skirt - you come alive.
o	You’ve got your head around the right fit for tops and blouses. Well done! The striped and cream tops both look great.
o	The dress fits well. Tanya is spot on. It’s needs to be shortened by about 2-3 inches.
o	You look sensational in your new grey trench. It’s going to look best when you create a contrast with the colour though. Try wearing it with jeans or a darker top.

I share Tanya’s astute sentiments exactly on the suit, jackets and esoteric baggy olive green pullover combo. Super belt and I like how you layered that outfit. You are getting creative!

Hi Sarah,

I haven't posted in months, but I wanted to say I think you need to alter that skirt suit. I really liked it on you. You can pull off a shorter skirt, so please consider having it taken in.

Hi Sarah, here's my two cents on the outfits:

Sunday: I love the way that top fits you, very nice. I think you can successfully pull of that skirt as well probably because the length is really long and it's flowy.

Monday: That color is nice on you but I think that you are right about it being boxy, glad you gave it to your sister. I am sorry to day this but I do not like that skirt at all. It's boxy and weird length and completely hides your pretty figure.

Tuesday: That striped t-shirt looks very good on you, and I'm glad to hear that you have more of them. I love the color of the pants, but they are too short ( as you say) and I think that they are also too loose as well.

Wednesday: The dress fits you well although it could a tiny bit shorter. I think it looks good both on it's own and with the denim jacket. I don't think that the trench and dress go well together, but they are both pretty on their own/with other stuff.

Thursday:
Hmm, I think that jacket is not too bad fitwise, but the skirt (and the pink cami) are definitely way too big. I am not sure how comfortable you are wearing short skirts, but you certainly have the legs to pull it off should you decide to alter it to fits you properly.

Friday: I like this outfit a lot, very cute. I actually like the sweater as it is.Maybe it's the photo angle tough and it's baggier in the reality.

Saturday: Another nice outfit. I really like the jacket and the top on you. I'm not a huge fan of the skirt (I'd prefer a simple denim a-line or pencil skirt) but it fits you well and looks nice with the rest of the stuff.

Oh, and incase anyone is wondering, the white thing on my figure Tuesday is gauze. I'm allergic to Band-Aids and I sliced my finger that morning and had to have it wrapped up most of the day.

Here’s my second week of outfits.

Sunday: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2433.jpg
One of my favorite flowing skirts and one of my few tops that fits. I think I have long enough legs in proportion to my body to get away with this length. After taking pictures in a lot of my skirts I’m coming to the conclusion that skirts, like pants, can be more flattering when skimming the ground than at ankle length. The bra makes me look a little odd though. I need to purge my bra drawer.

Monday: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....G_2435.jpg
The blouse actually looks a lot worse in person than it does in the picture. When I put my hands behind my back I look like I fill it out better. It’s boxy and the darts are too low, so I gave it to my sister and it fits her perfectly. The skirt I’ve had for about 8 years and it’s getting worn.

Tuesday: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....9-08sm.jpg
I seem to like striped shirts. I’ve never notice that until recently. I have two with long sleeves and about 4 with short sleeves. Perhaps I think they give me curves. I know my pants are an inch to inch and a half too short, but for now they are the best I have. They are the only non-denim pants I have left after I got rid of the ones that are too big (and even shorter).

Wednesday: I tried this outfit three ways.
Just the dress: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....30-083.jpg
With my denim jacket: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....30-082.jpg
And with my silver trench: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....-30-08.jpg

Thursday:
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....-01-08.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....jacket.jpg
I got this little suit for Christmas and this is the first time I’ve worn it. The pink cami belongs to my sister. The whole suit is a little big, including the skirt. I took a picture of the skirt without the jacket so you can see that it falls down to my hips; I’m not sure how high the skirt is supposed to sit, but I know it sits too low on me. I’m not sure I’d want it much shorter though. Is the outfit worth altering?

Friday: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....02-082.jpg
I bought this raglan sleeve sweater over Christmas break. I love it, but think it needs a bit of material taken in on the sides so there won’t be quite so much gathering under the belt.

Saturday: http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....hjackt.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/al.....-03-08.jpg
It was just a little chilly, so I was constantly taking the jacket off when inside and putting it back on when outside.

Whew, long post. That’s all for now. As always, any comments and suggestions are appreciated.
