Thanks so much Ana. I got your e-mails. You’re amazing! The 20% off coupon was one I got already, but the $30 off the blouse makes it too good to pass up. I was considering not getting it, because it’s dry-clean only and made of silk, but for that price I don’t think I can resist it. In fact, I think I’ll order it tonight. I will certainly post pictures when it arrives.

I stopped by Express today to try on things and was, on the whole, disappointed. The blouse wasn’t there at all, so I think it’s online only. (You are right though, I should be XS.) I couldn’t find the skirt either. I did find all of the pants. The plaid ones looked like wide legs on me, so I didn’t love them in person. The black editor pants fit great, except they tucked between my butt cheeks, giving me the feeling of a permanent wedgie. Not a good look or feeling IMO. The jeans were problematic, as expected. For once, I could zip up the size 0s, but they were uncomfortably tight in the waist and gave me muffin top even with the high “Mia” rise. The size 2 Mia skinnies were just a little baggy in the butt, and the waist was too big in the back and comfortable in front. With washing, they would most likely only grow. As usual, I’m a size 1, right between sizes. The necklace looks fab online in the picture, but junky and cheep in person, so I think I’ll just recreate something similar, as suggested by Alecia and Joy.

Thanks again everybody.

I made a mistake, it's $30.00 off a $75.00 purchase (needs to be used by August 27) and a 20% off any purchase (that's today and tomorrow only), but I'll forward both the coupons to you today. The $30.00 one is the best one for the blouse (I did the math).

Thank you all for the tips. Yes, I will definitely bring along my shopping list so I won’t get distracted, Sarah P. That’s something I learned from Angie. It’s saved me a lot of money not buying this I don’t need just because they are on sale. You are all right. As much as I love all of these items online, trying them on will illuminate several of them, if not all of them. Pants rarely fit me, especially in even numbered sizes. I tend to wear a size 1. Typically, 0s won’t zip up, and 2s are huge in the butt and legs. Skirts, on the other hand, tend to be too large even in size 0, but I do have one from Express that fits perfectly. The things on my list are more important though. The skinny jeans are first priority. Then I’ll think about the others. The necklace is sort of on my list, since it’s already a layered necklace.

Special thanks to Ana. Wow, I had no clue that J. Ana Crew used to work for Express. As much as I love that necklace, I will wait for the sale since the quality is so low. Actually, I think I’ll wait for the sale on everything, and figure if it’s still there in my size by October it was meant to be. But I’ll probably still try everything on this month, just so I know what I’m watching for when the sale comes around in a couple of months. It’s great to know about the price adjustments too. The one thing I may have to have at full price is that wrap blouse. I’ve been dreaming of a blouse like that for months, but first, I’ll see if it fits. I’d love to have those coupon codes! *hugs* My e-mail address is redroseandblackribbon@gmail.com .

I like all your choices. I think the ladies give great advice about trying everything on, and consulting the list of gaps in your wardrobe. This is pretty important, especially for you because you just got finished with a big closet clean out. I actually used to work at Express for a couple of years, and was the store's "Accessory Captain," which meant I spent a lot of time organizing and displaying the jewelry and purses. This is what I would do if I were you:

At my store, plaid suiting never sold out unless it was highly unusual. One year we got pink, light grey, black and white plaid that was *so* cute, and that was gone in an instant. Most other plaid there's always some left when the sale rolls around. And there were always size Os left, which I think you probably are in Express clothing. Sales happen every 3 months like clockwork. Of course things could always change, but Express is just wrapping up their summer sale now, so the next big sale won't be until October, and then one in January, and so on. I'd maybe keep an eye on these plaid bottoms, and see if you can't pick them up on major sale in October. As far as sales go--shop the first day. Stuff sells fast, and Express does mark downs every few days during a sale, so keep your receipt, and go in 14 days after. Ask for a price adjustment. They will give you a refund of the difference between what you paid and the sale price on the day you go back in. This might have changed because Express was actually sold to a different company (they are no longer owned by Limited Brands), but it's worth a shot. I've gotten as much as $40.00 back on sale merchandise I purchased the first day. You have to do it within 14 days, and you have to have your receipt (you don't need to bring the merchandise back in with you).

The jewelry is not well made. The necklace is so cute and unique, though. Keep an eye on it, and wait for it to go on sale. It will most likely be marked down to $19.99 first, and then $9.99. I'd buy it at $19.99 and do a price adjustment. In the meantime, look for something similar that is maybe a little higher quality. I know it will cost more, but I'm almost *positive* that one of those chains on that necklace is going to fall apart. But if you only pay $9.99, it's not such a tragedy, you know? You can just remove the broken chain and not feel bad that you spend a big chunk of your budget on it. This doesn't always happen, but some pieces were more prone to it than others.

Right now jeans are buy one get one 50% off. I would maybe consider taking advantage of this. The Eva fit has a mid rise that I like, and the jeans actually hold up okay for the price. Don't put them in the dryer! They will fade after only one or two dryings. I always air dried mine and never had a problem.

The top might actually be worth the money. I have a couple coupons--one is for $30.00 off a $75.00 purchase, and the other is for 25% off a $75.00 purchase. They have to be used by the 27th. If you want them, I'll e-mail the online codes to you, because I'm not going to use them. Make two online purchases and you will have to pay shipping twice, but you can use both of them.

If you have any money left over the black fit and flare pants might be a good buy. They do have a very low rise. If the rise bothers you, I'd try the Editors in the same fabric.

Hope I didn't overwhelm you!

The necklace doesn't look too hard to duplicate with three types of chains and 2 types of faux pearls and a vintage broach or earring wired on with jewelry wire. But the price for the Express necklace is so reasonable that you may spend more making it if you can't raid your mom and grandmother's old jewelry.

The necklace is fabulous and vintage inspired. We have a local antique fair that has some good deals on vintage jewelry. Not sure if you have something similar, but some of my very favorite pieces are vintage and were steals.

Sarah, you've gotten good advice so far. I completely agree that trying things firsthand often makes them fall off the list. I would concentrate on the things that you would get the most use out of (jeans, denim skirt or a versatile top you could wear a number of ways). You can also watch the items to see when they go on sale as fall is still a month or so away. Good luck!

Sarah, that's great advice from "The Other Sarah." (I don't know, that sounds as if I'm marginalizing you, Sarah P. Maybe Sarah P. is better?) Sarah, do you have an Express nearby where you can actually try on these items? Sometimes a less-than-perfect fit can make an item drop off the wish list. Those are some great choices. I'd also advise carefully considering the "holes" in your wardrobe, along with which items would give you the most mileage. A great pair of jeans goes a long, long way. I tend to make accessories (not including shoes) a last priority, but that necklace is *so* you!

I love your list, Sarah. And I can completely understand the frustration of a limited clothing budget. If I were you, I'd try all these on and buy the one or two items that you LOVE. Fill in the rest at Old Navy, Target, or even a good thrift shop. I know those clothes aren't the greatest quality but you need to wear *something*. Scour clearance racks (our Macys usually has an 80% off rack) too.
I have found DVF, Express, lots of Banana Republic, Cole Haan (shoes) and Ann Taylor at my local thrift stores. It just takes patience to weed through everything. Take your list so you don't get distracted.

This place is bad for my wallet! My fall shopping list is growing and growing. Sadly, my very small clothing budget is not growing. So far this is my list: Dark wash knee-length denim pencil skirt, black lacy top, dark wash skinny jeans, neck-tie blouse, waist-cinching belt (not sure on the color yet), cream scarf, necklaces to layer, black or charcoal vest, black platform pumps.

On top of all that, I got an e-mail add from Express today and fell in love with several things on their site. Their Mia jeans seem to be made for me. I’ve never tried them on, but now I have to. They describe them as “with a higher rise for slimmer hips, smoother curves and longer legs.” That’s me all over the place. Their skinnies come in a 30” inseam. My inseam is 29”, but 30” could allow for a tad of scrunching.

Along with the jeans I’m in love with this skirt:
http://www.express.com/catalog.....goryId=109

I also like these pants:
http://www.express.com/catalog.....goryId=108
http://www.express.com/catalog.....goryId=108

This necklace looks amazing to me:
http://www.express.com/catalog.....goryId=113

And finally, my favorite is this top:
http://www.express.com/catalog.....ductId=757

None of them are on my shopping list, and the grand total of just the Express stuff is $317.50. That’s 6 months’ clothing budget for me. Perhaps I’ll just get one or two of those items. Anybody have favorites, considering that I’m a straight-ish hourglass tending toward inverted triangle (Body Shape Bible shape “cornet”)?
