FWIW, Catholics can also choose deep blue instead of purple for Advent. It has caused havoc in our religion classes where a favorite song is one about the liturgical colors of the year. ("Purple is for Preparation, White is for Celebration..." We were horrified when a new priest chose to use blue. He has now used some blue, some purple to help us out.
