Thanks Suz - there are some lovely picks here too.

I really like sandal booties, peeptoe booties too.....and I will wear my current ones until they really die. But in purchasing a new pair that I plan to wear at least three years (mid heels tend to last a while for me) I wonder if I am better to either go classic (more like your Vionics) or a newer trend (like a mule).....

It sure is my sugar eye - spring summer footwear that suits smart casual. I honestly have seen about 20 pairs I love and would like!!!

Sandal booties and wedges may not be "trending" but they are always "in style."

Still, a slide with a low heel would be your trendiest bet to replace the sandal bootie. A very similar profile. But beware, it won't be as stable and you're in danger of turning an ankle.

I tried so many flat mules and slides this year but could not find any that stayed on my feet. I did eventually find a slide with a 1.5 inch heel that worked. But I had already bought my summer shoes so didn't purchase.

Added a bunch of Finds even though you might not be able to source these (and some not in your preferred colours) just to show what was around this season here that is sort of in the ballpark...

Ooh I like those sandals Jenni NZ suggested. Sal I also have the tendency to try to make one pair of shoes fill about 5 different wardrobe roles. I have no idea why I skimp in this department, whereas I allow myself umpteen excess clothes.

Chiming in to say that I have those Paul Green cognac block-heeled sandals and they are really great! I have narrow, low volume feet and they fit me very well, and are so comfy. I ordered them directly from the PG online store. Highly recommend

Hi Sally, thought of you this afternoon when ostensibly at the mall to grocery shop for dinner- but sneakily looked in some windows and shops first. Only bought groceries though! Saw some nice tan sandal booties in Mischief Shoes window and have found them on-line- Gianna by Emporio Italia, expensive sorry but if you were keen they do have good sales in time usually. Here is a pic, cheers.

Smittie - that's where I am leading to as well. I do have a habit of trying to get one pair of shoes to cover all needs and that rarely works. And whereas I am happy with a couple of pairs of jeans options wise - I like several footwear options.

Perforated booties would be good temperature wise - but maybe not for our rain:)

I didn’t realize perforated booties were a thing, but I guess they are based on Joys extensive compilation!

I love the idea of a trend item like the perforated booties, but I really hesitate to call them an alternative to your sandal booties, which are much more sandally.

I think 1 pair of block heels with a simple ankle strap and over the top strap would be something with longevity that also is on-trend. (I know you have a black pair like this. Perhaps duplicate in cognac.)

I think espadrilles-style wedges are still trendy and chic.

Coming back to the perforated booties: these might work well in your climate, actually. Ditto mules.

So maybe one trend and one classic item?

Janet - I love 2 3 5 8 and 10!! Actually I like most of them except 1 is too similar to some cream sandals I already own.

I can see myself having a good look at them - this is the level of formality I need for my current hole.

I see some online browsing ahead!!

I am not a fussy fit in footwear - a standard 40 or 9 fits well in a standard width. I am more nervous about clothing online as I have NZ10-14 sizes in my closet and M-XL as well. I am not a NZ10 and I am not a NZXL so this shows how erratic sizing can be.

Here’s a variety of sandals that I could picture you wearing. I personally don’t like slingbacks, because my feet slip out of them. I like the ankle strap a lot. I’m not endorsing these particular shoes, just the looks of them.

Wow I have woken up to some great suggestions.

Stylefan and Jane - I did not know Birkenstocks did a wedge!! I do like them. If I decide to get two pairs they are a contender for sure (if I only get one they are a bit casual).

JenniNZ - wow Styletread has a great range. I will definitely take a good look - lots of possibilities. I often buy from Merchant too - their shoes seem to mostly work well for me.

Brooklyn - ballet inspiration sounds fun!! I still like sandal booties too - and will likely wear mine a bit longer - but they are showing wear. I wish they weren't!! Mules are the trendy option and a possibility - I do like showing my toes though (my heels are bony and not as pretty). I need to decide if I can get two pairs:)

Bijou - those are gorgeous and kind of what I imagined- simple, classic and modern. I will see if they will be stocked here!!

Fashintern- thanks - the Seychelles are a style I have struggled with in the past, the back slips on my heels. Visually I like them but they don't work. I would have said in the past that sandal boots were a mad idea until I owned them. I would not wear them here June-August but the rest of the year they work temperature wise - our climate is very even all year with winter yesterday being 14 and 24 being common in summer. We rarely have under 10 or over 27.

Joy - thanks for those. I do like the Sole Society ones in particular. The Ankle Cuff ones are great - I also like the perforated peep toes and the perforated loafers!!

Jenn- I am not worried about being cutting edge - as I am not:) Part of me wants to duplicate the pair that are fading but part of me thinks that here in NZ I was ahead of the game when I got them, and duplicating will just not feel the same!! I need something that fills the same function though - smart casual, cognac and works with jeans and midi length that I can wear all day and walk 2-3 km in. I am sorted for shorts, and I am sorted for dressy.

Suntiger - wedges are super useful aren't they!! We often attend functions where there is walking on the grass, or BBQ outside...

Sandals and shoes are my weakness and I will compromise on other areas to get them!! I could look at

A peeptoe heeled mule and a perforated loafer/oxford

A flat loafer mule and a birkenstock wedge

A classic heeled sandal like the Paul Greens

Any of these would meet all my needs.... At the back of my mind we are off to Italy in Spring so I need some comfortable smart sandals for dining out or casual city excursions....I always take plenty of shoes and fewer clothing (and accept I will wash clothing on holidays) - this works best for me.

Thanks - good food for thought and lots to explore - I do love shoe shopping!!

I like peep toe mules like those orange ones for not too hot weather, they're my version of sandal boots, and theres a lot available now. I saw less wedges this year, but they come in handy for weekends!

Ooh, I like that third Sole Society pair Joy just posted. I could see you int that first pair of mules, as well, if that style works for your feet. I still like sandal booties, but would guess that mules are probably the most fashion-forward option. I'm terrible at judging trendiness, though. I just bought a pair of gladiator sandals, even though I'm pretty sure those are long past their trend date.

If you want to wear the sandals for years, sandal boots may not still be stylish a year or so down the road. How about perforated booties instead? They seem more current, but others may have better opinions.
I like my perforated or mule loafers for summer wear.

Sally I love cognac footwear on you as it really bookends your golden hair. Personally I am a fan of sandal / booties, but given they are been around for a few summers, they are not looking particularly fashion forward. That said, I will still be wearing mine!

I am hoping that my local Paul Green retailer is getting this sandal and it fits my narrow and fussy feet - it is a basic sandal, but I am drawn to the simplicity of style and natural leather colour. I could imagine something similar working for you.

Are these “fun”, or do the colors limit what you could pair them with too muc? https://www.seychellesfootwear.....TRANQU-9SL

According to my prejudice, sandal boots make sense in a hot place where you’re trying to pretend it’s winter, but are dumb in real winter and don’t fit a summer aesthetic. I’m sure many people disagree with me. I don’t want to hurt any feelings, which is why I said that’s my opinion.

Another opinion of mine: you are too active to mess with trying to make miles stay on your feet

I doubt an American in Berlin can be really helpful with shoe-shopping down under, but I wish you a good hunt!

I think mules (flat or with a low heel) would be the trendiest option.

Personally I am not over sandal boots and possibly never will be I love a high shaft or high vamp.

For this summer, I personally like the idea of something ballet inspired (Criss-cross ankle straps and either flat or with a low heel). Or a flat sandal with lots of Criss cross straps in the vamp. I have no idea if I will find it, but I can almost see it now!

Sally, I love wedges but I don't know if they are on trend. I echo Jane's suggestion about the Birks wedges. I also like Fly London wedges. I prefer footwear on the chunky side though.
Tan/cognac seems like a great choice for you.

Sally I really would look on Styletread. They have such a huge range and very good sales. Also Merchant 1948 ( previously Overland) has 40 % off their sale prices right now. I am sure both will have lots of tan/cognac.
I can't help you with styles really as I don't wear sandal booties myself, I think I find them a bit chunky for summer for me even though I wear booties in winter all.the.time. And I don't wear wedges either.
Will perforated Oxfords be cool enough?
Mules could be interesting. I am musing on a pair from Styletread for $55 NZ. Probably don't have enough to wear with them though as they are floral. My floral weakness is apparent looking at my wish list! I suspect you don't have the same weakness.

Oh, lovely to be upsating your summer shoes.

I am a flat sandal fan but I was very drawn to some Birkenstock wedges. They looked smarter than the flat birkies. I was also tempted by some Vionic sandals, as Suz’s looked so good.

Hi All

Two of my spring/summer workhorse sandals are past it. One pair (lilac cork wedges made by Rieker, 2012) have been thrown out (six summers) and one pair (cognac sandal boots, 2014) are on their last legs. Here are some WIW featuring them.

I wore these sandals often
- with jeans
- with midi skirts
- with cropped pants
- with shorter dresses and midi dresses

They straddled the smart casual line well for me - and I liked the heels - sturdy but comfortable.

My other summer sandals are
- tan flat sandals (comfy but very casual)
- cream low wedges (good for smart dressy but not much walking)
- black chunky heel (too high for every day)
- pewter slides

I also have ( all are 2 plus years old and quite wearable but not pristine new)
- tan pointy flats
- gold ballet flats
- silver loafers
- white leather sneakers

I also have evening sandals and athletic options.

My criteria:

I am wanting to add one or two pairs only to replace these sandals.

I would like tan or cognac to match a new second hand bag as a first priority.

I prefer plainer sandals and shoes without too many bells and whistles.

My feet are not terribly fussy - straps that cut in are my main issue

I do like a small heel especially for midi's - 1-2.5 inches

My feet get really hot in summer - so covered shoes are not great unless I can wear socks.

I like my footwear to have longevity - I mostly walk in trainers - but I might walk to the shops occasionally in these sandals.

Questions:
1) Is the sandal boot waning - I would still wear it - but would I buy it?
2) A wedge is super comfortable and practical but again is it a bit dated?
3) Perforated Oxfords?

4) Mules? I think this would only be if I get two pairs.

What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

(excuse the beach hair and packing scene in photo 2)
