At the moment I am quite liking the idea of a few studs scattered around where the holes are and painting them pewter. There are a few crafty stores around so I may be able to find something. If it is an epic fail that is okay because I am not super attached to them.

Just a thought...you might be able to find an interesting brooch or bead at a craft store. I found a great wood disc with a hole in the center and some lines painted on...sort of tribal in style at a local craft store. I was planning to use it for a pendant necklace, but I think it would look pretty cool on a strappy sandal like yours!

I would glue the flower back on and leave them white or else dye (spray?) them pewter, like your sneakers, or coral or mint.

Maybe you could glue on some sort of buckle, but then, where do you find a buckle?

No extra ideas, sorry, but adding that I think metallic sandals are a great workable option. Hope the jacket dyes up well, too.

Yes Denise does look great in the mint....I will look at the closet and see what could work with that colour. I tend to have either neutrals or bold warm colours (pink, melon, red) at the moment but I am trying to up the blue and green which I love.

Brooklyn, Mmm studs could work well...I am better with a hot glue gun than a needle and thread, and mint green is a colour I have not worn for a very long time...but I am prepared to go something unusual that will work with basic other pieces.

Thanks Maneera, that is another easy fix that appeals to my lazy side!! I will look a hairclips tomorrow when I am near a good place.

Jenn, that is an option too because having them plain does appeal to me. Deborah, I could look at some perforations, I might actually take off the flowers and see what I am faced with.

Suz, I will let you know how I get on and whether trying to be resourceful has worked!!

I like the idea of going metallic. Pewter is an excellent neutral. Could you fill the holes with decorative studs of some kind? Gryffin recommended hem gems to me (no sewing required!), I wonder if they could be used for this purpose. Or maybe you could just glue them on. Studs would go with the metallic colour and de-pretty the sandals. If you wanted to paint them a non-neutral colour I noticed a lot of forum members were sporting mint green sandals this last summer. I liked it - and this is not usually a colour that appeals to me. I hope you will report back!
I hope you will also report back on how the dye job on the jacket goes. I am thinking of doing something similar.

I really like the sandals. They are surely keepers.

I can think of one idea to replace the flower. I've used kiddie hair clips to add new detail to old shoes in the past. Barely costs anything!

Here is what you do --- use a thick thread to make a loop using the holes where the flower is removed. Use a clip, something metallic if you want to create a new accent. Just that simple! I did it recently. Here are photos. You can't see the back of the clip so photo #3 will show you that.

Good luck with the DIY projects!

If you're taking them into a shoe repair store, you might ask if they have a leather fill product that could fill in the holes. I think such things exist, and, between that and dying a darker color, they might end up unnoticeable.

Sally I am not crafty either so feel free to just laugh this idea off:)
I assume the holes are the same on each sandal? Could you stitch something to them? Or could you create something decoratively stitching using the existing holes? I can't find any example of what I mean so hope I make some sense:)

Yes I mean dye, but I think you paint it on. I called into a shoe repair store that has a good range but I decided to decide on the top part. I hope to keep the heels as is - stacked leather -well that is what I thought.

Pewter could work - and a mix is a good idea too.

Ideally I would like the top to be plain but the holes from where the flowers were stitched on would annoy me. I could even hot glue gun some braid/ribbon on?

I am pretty untalented in the crafty field!

Fun! What about a metallic for the sandals? Either a soft gold or pewter for the body of the sandal, then both gold and silver for the flower, perhaps? Multi-color brights could also be fun...mustard base with violet flower? When you say "paint" is it the same as "dye", or do you actually use a brush or paint pen to paint them?

Thanks Deborah, I will take a look. The sandals are comfortable and being Rieker they are good quality. I could look at metallic, I think being cream most colours are an option.

Yes I hope the others work. I have the dye for the jacket - I was being a bit of a YLF lemming with the jacket; so many forum members really look wonderful in white and I forgot that a blue white is really unflattering on me!

The sandals are nice and if they are comfortable them definitely worth a little DIY. How about a metallic tone? I would also remove the flowers but I am sure you replace the flowers with something more streamlined and modern if you wanted to.

This site has some interesting shoe clips.

I have some cream Rieker sandals that could use a refresh. They are very comfortable and a good basic style. But...... the cream is very rich in tone, and a little uneven after a wash. The flower is coming off one, but as you can see from the third picture, removing the flowers entirely leads to holes in the sandal from the stitching.

I can see a few options:
- repair the flower and leave as is
- repair the flower and paint, what colour?
- remove the flower and out something else in place, if so what?

I am half thinking of a mustardy colour to wear with black, denim, olive and provide a bright look. But I don't have my heart set on this. I would prefer them to be slightly less sweet, hence why I would quite like to get rid of the flower. I see myself wearing them with jeans, Capri ankle pants, or a summer dress. I have black flat sandals, tan sandal boots, nude heeled sandals, blue cork sole sandals already so they do not have to be a versatile colour. Cerise?

I am about to revamp two other items too. A white jacket that is too blue based for me, I need a warmer white. This is going to be dyed olive green. The jacket is cropped with silver hardware and a useful throw on at summer BBQ etc hence a versatile colour is a good idea. Lesson learnt- I do not wear optic white well.

Some black and cream cotton harem pants are going to be cut to below the knee with new elastic. They are a great piece but ever too slightly short, and at knee length I can wear them for running around more and even with my Merrel sandals for children's athletics. I am a hopeless sewer but I think I can cut a hem and thread new elastic in!!

Thanks in advance for your help.
