I had a great time visiting with everyone and a lot of fun checking out the goodies. I have to agree with Kate that one of the best thing about the swap was finding a good home for some of my favorite things--items that I couldn't bear sending blindly to the donation station! The next best thing was finding some "new" items to work into my wardrobe. I scored some great items--a gorgeous silver necklace with a big, black stone pendant which I love; a woven tunic with a zipper entry--something I've looked for but never been able to find; a lovely red summer dress; a gorgeous dark denim shirt and a fabulous yellow skirt. I will be posting pics soon.</p> <p>Not only did I get to meet Kate but I also got to meet Susan, Ms. Maven, who I recognized right away. I even recognized the long, black leather coat that she brought to the swap. Kind of frightening that I know OTHER people's wardrobes too! I had no idea what to expect--I've never been to a swap either. It was a lot of fun to watch different people try on the same items--and how different they looked. We had some tasty goodies too, especially the Argentine alfajores (like cookies with a filling) you brought. I appreciated the fresh fruit--so yummy. </p> <p>I didn't get a chance to tell you, Kate, that when you walked away in that Chanelesque jacket I could see it fit you perfectly in the back and shoulders. I loved seeing my things going to a new home. </p> <p>We were supposed to visit my son and his family in Chicago this last weekend. He tells me it was 4 below zero. Just as well--it was a beautiful sunny day here--and I came home with some new things to try.</p> <p>I've been yearning for polka dots and spotted a black dress with white. Dresses are difficult for me, but surprise--it was long enough, had sleeves and the waist was in a right place. I also brought home two print tops--I avoid bright prints--but these looked good on and fit well. I also have another blouse, two jackets, two scarves, a pendant, and an extra alfajor that I nabbed to take home to my husband. I'll try to find time later to put them on and take photos. </p> <p>Many thanks to Srujana and to everyone who came, and to a couple of those who didn't come but sent some clothes anyway. The party had 8 attendees and about 150 items to choose from! Everyone went home with some new favorites - I think the fewest number of take-homes was 5! </p> <p>Susan's items were especially in-demand and found some very happy new owners, including her long black leather jacket (Meris' roommate, whose name escapes me) and her gray Chanel-style blazer (me!). Thank you, Susan!</p> <p>Several of us found "style twins" at the party, which was fun: for example, many of Kelly's goodies went to Taryn. Also, the format of the swap meant that many of us tried items whose style we would not normally tend toward, and to outstanding success!</p> <p>It was the first clothing swap that I attended, and it was even more fun than I expected! I was surprised just how satisfying it is to see my items go to loving homes. So much more satisfying than a blind donation or sale. I guess that speaks to my level of attachment to my clothes! I found myself being willing to part with items that I would not otherwise have donated or sold, simply because of being able to put a face on the next person who would enjoy them.</p> <p>Today I am wearing one of the fab items I scored from Srujana, an Indian-style tunic that was made by her friend Sara and fits over my maternity belly - perfect with leggings! I will post a photo later this afternoon when I get home from work.</p> <p>Most of my other fab finds are non-maternity wear so I won't be able to post photos, but please, I hope the other attendees are able to post pictures!</p> <p>Many thanks to Antje for organizing the event at a broader level, and once again to Srujana whose generosity we appreciate with gratitude. </p>
