Sara it's much easier than it seems.

Some of the wigs above are high end, some are from cheaper brands. The "cheaper" ones end up costing more, since they last much less and need lots of maintenance.

Still, I would start there. Go to your local beauty shop and start there. They will sometimes make you pay a dollar to try on wigs, sometimes have a rule of a maximum number of wigs to try in one session, but they relax when they see you're serious. They will make you wear a nylon cap, so be prepared.

What a fun and interesting exercise! I can see how the wigs and the outfit/colors you're wearing really affect the overall appearance. Now I wish I had some wigs to play with (and the guts to actually wear one out of the house).

Very interesting how much difference each makes! I love #1 and I also like the long straight one, although it is a lot of hair for your delicate face. Love the dark pixie too, I don't really see washed out. I'm not sure about the blondes on you, maybe I would just need to let my eyes adjust.

You guys, thank you!

It's nice to know that you do enjoy these comparisons. I sure have a lot of fun putting them together.

Olen, Gigi, Joy, Haute is a very nice wig. The cut is just perfect. It's also "front lace", which means that it has a kind of very delicate transparent thin filet in the front, out of which spur baby hairs, so the hairline looks very natural. One common problem with bangless styles is a harsh hairline with lots of hair right away. This doesn't exist in nature.

Kathie, yes, you have a good idea there (restyle). Thank you. And also, yes, you're right, I'm not there yet with that wig because I'm enjoyng this late 1970 early 1980's curly shag too much. It reminds me of a teacher I had in primary school, she was so sweet and so nice. I always imagined sweet and maternal figures like that, and it's fun now to sport the look. However, it's so personal and I understand that the overall effect on me is not the best of them all.

To answer your question: no, wear is not equal, just as with clothes. Some are worn more for various reasons, for example comfort, or just something that better suits personal style and lifestyle. Now that I am back to work, being a teacher to older teens and young adults, I haven't tried switching up every day. I think it would be confusing to the students. But maybe not? Now, I wear one for a while before switching. I wear the other ones at night, on weekends, or at other moments when I'm not in the school. What determine the order of wear is really subjective and feeling based. Like when you ask yourself in the morning what shoes you feel like wearing that day.

Gigi, I'm happy I have provoked you into looking at your wardrobe differently! This is such a compliment.

Today I washed wig 10 (Julianne), mostly in an effort to soften its synthetic fibers which had become a bit bristle and coarse. One trick to do this is to let it soak in water with liquid softener, then remove without rincing out the Downy and let it air dry. This trick has worked very well on other wigs (such as the Candy Girl and Alto above). But the Julianne, although still wet, continue to feel coarse. I guess I'll know when it's dry.

These posts are such a good illustration of why Angie places so much emphasis on hairstyle as a defining feature of personal style. You are wearing the same outfit in each pic, but the overall effect is very different because of the hairstyle. The looks range from edgy/artsy (the dark asymmetric wig) to boho (the long wavy and long straight wigs) and everything in between. Wow. This really makes me want to prioritize exploring my hairstyle as a part of my overall look.

I agree with Olen that the wig in 7-8 works extremely well with your natural coloring. The angle of the pic in 7, and the way the hair covers your face a bit, reminded me of a movie star on vacation. :)

I agree that the wig in 10 seemed a little jarring and did not work so well with the color palette of the outfit. Maybe it would work better with lighter colors?

Fun! Agree that 10 might be better in the summer. Can you have 11 restyled a bit? I realize you might not want to, but it does look a bit dated. Out of curiosity, do you wear all these equally? Or, do you settle on one, and wear that for a while, before switching it up?

Here is another comparison, to show how hairstyle and color can affect what you wear.

OUTFIT:
Military shirt by Guess
Merino/silk crean undershirt by Bernard Solfin
Toffee faux velour leggings by I Love Tyler Madison
Joseph Siebel green booties

1: With Alto by Beshe (ST27/30), attached in the back. Sleek bob with sleek bangs. Very school girl, proper, preppy even.

2 -3: With Pure Natural's Ashanti in 27/30. Originally pageboyish. This is the wig I retouched and for which I had the bangs cut.

4-5-6: Pure Natural's Candy Girl in 27/30. Long, sleek, Julian Moorish. Hair tends to hide the décolleté, which changes the mood of the outfit quite a bit.

7-8: Haute by Jon Renau. A rooted cooler, dark blonde. I find this wig to render anything I'm wearing very conservative, but it's a flattering style. This wig is an old popular among wig wearers.

9: Alia by Jon Renau, in a cool beige blonde. I had this one de-bulked by a stylist. I find this one as wow as it is difficult to actually wear with my personal style. It's very businessy for artsy gamine me. But I love it and prize it nevertheless. This was my very first wig.

10: Juliane by Jon Renau, in a cool blonde. This weavy style works best with summer outfits I think, and look a little out of place with this. What do you think?

11: My only human hair wig, that came nameless from Eternal Wigs, which I got in Calgary so I'll call it Stampedette. Nobody likes it. Except me.

12-13-14: This one is called Jacy by Vanessa Wigs. Dark, slightly reddish pixie. This shade needs more sustained colors on clothes, and suddenly the outfit looks like it washes me out.

15: With (unknown name, unknown brand) blonde pixie.

16: With Gabriela by Pure Natural in the Janet collection, in Honey blonde. Long weavy curls, and lots of it. Romantic, Boho.

17: finally, my real bio hair.
