Scarlet :: the sizing is even even more confusing when you know that even the same sizes vary between the manufacturers…

Ceit :: I'll measure things for you tomorrow, it's late on my side of the pond at the moment and i'm off to bed ;-)

Suz :: please find the nearest M&S and buy fleece lined hose if they still have it in stock, I feel cold for you… and thanks so much for taking time on your trip to answer so thoroughly. I totally get what you say about fitting as 6.5 and treating as 7 - very useful info ;-)

Ladies, thanks again for your thorough responses, I get the overwhelming feeling you want me to keep the booties, based on my latest experience they seem to want that too, but I too need to be sure and not feel like Cinderella's cruel step-sister who wants to put on that glass slipper.

Ornella - here is my experience FWIW.

My regular size is somewhere between a 6.5 and a 7 US. Or a 37 EU. Depending. If I want to wear thick socks (like with a flat winter boot) I usually buy a 7. If I want the shoe not to slip (as with a dressy pump) I will need the 6.5.

In the Pettys, I ordered the 6.5 based on reviews and Angie's recommendations. I got them and they are rather long (if anything). Out of the box they were super comfortable. My first few wears outdoors were also super comfortable.

Then I wore them out one day with super thin socks and I had to run to get where I was going. They rubbed my toes on the TOP (very weird place) and I got blisters on the top of my toes. OUCH.

So I let the blisters heal, and then experimented with thicker socks. BINGO - no problem. I wore them around the house for a while with the thicker wool socks and they stretched out so that now they are comfortable altogether.

Having said that, I brought them with me to England and I have not worn them once because I did not want to risk ruining them in the snow!!

Ultimate judgement: they fit rather loose for a 6.5 and I need to treat them more as if they were a size 7 for my foot.

My feet are neither narrow nor wide, but I have a narrow heel.

It is colder here in England today than in Canada. Brrrrrr!!!

I am really agonizing about sizing here. I am usually a 9.5 or a 10.

If ou have time, could you do me a huge favour and give me the length measurements of the 9 and 10?

Ornella, I love my SE Petty booties and now have three pairs, the black suede having just arrived last week. My first pair were the Pythons and I found them to be so comfortable (love the heel height) that I wore them often.

Now, I've added the Putty and Black. I, too, love the shape of the almond toe and I don't quite know what to tell you about size. I wear a 7-1/2 US and they fit well, with the correct socks (not too thin and not too thick), so I keep that in mind when wearing them. If anything, mine tended to be on the looser side. Too bad about the 9-1/2. Have you tried massaging the stiffer portion of the shoe, bending it and making it more malleable?

I hope they work out for you, because the ones you've selected would be spectacular on you.

Ornella, I love my Petty pythons and they have loosened a bit. They were tight where toe meets foot ( I have average width). Now they are about 6 hour shoes, but not quite 8 hour comfortable. I hope that they will soften more as they are worn. I wear a 7.5 or 8 and bought the 8.

Actually, the sizing is even more confusing than I thought because what I said above was based on the Nordstrom website, but I just looked inside the shoe of the 6.5 and it said the EUR size is 37.5, which would be a new one on me, at least based on German sizing.

Hope they end up working for you! I love the pattern, I agree, keep trying them on with different socks, and walk around on carpeted surface, they are leather so should start accomodating to your feet soon. BTW, I myself am waiting for the Pettys in putty, hope they live to their legend

Shannon :: right now they are on number 8/10 comfort-wise. My only concern is the stiffness around the toes area that Sveta also refers to. I will try them for a few more days before the final decision and with a few types of socks, you are right.

Scarlett :: thanks for your info, looks like the half-sizes are used to convert some US sizing to EUR, but not all. Good to bear in mind in the future - but it might be just this brand.

I too have noticed they started to give in as I put them on and off.

Thanks for the link for styling.

DV :: from what you say, 9.5 could have been perfect for me, but it is literally inaccessible if it makes any sense. I wanted to order two sizes and would normally go for EUR 39 and 40, but they didn't have 39, so I took 40 and 41. And they treat 40 as US 9 and 41 as US 10.

Size 9.5 is lost in translation :-)

I love them, but I did wonder which size to get. I normally wear a 9C but because it's rare to find cute shoes in C or wide widths. So I usually size up to 9-1/2 or 10. In these I got the 9-1/2, I did not want to go for the 10 because the shoe appeared to provide enough width. (I usually like to see the soles of shoes when I buy on line -- that seems to be the only way I can tell if the shoes will work for me.

I think Joy and Suz complained that their boots tended to dig into their toes after awhile. I have not had that problem because they boots are a little longer than my size. I hope that helps.

Ornella, I am asking myself all of your questions too! (I hadn't seen your first thread till now.) If it makes you feel any better, they call a 37 (my European size) a US size 7, which I never wear. The 6.5 seems right for me, but it is slightly narrow in the toe box, like Sveta says. I noticed that they already seemed to loosen up by my trying them on several times, so I am not too worried about it. By the way, check this blog post for outfit ideas

http://youlookfab.com/2012/10/.....d-bottoms/
Ornella, I cannot wear mine with thick socks - they are the most comfortable with sheer socks for me. This is because my feet are wider in the toe area and stiffer part of the boot rubs on my toes with a thicker socks.
You can try to stretch them a bit but that stiff part on the toes does not really stretch.
Ornella - aren't they beautiful? Ok....so where would you rate them on the 1-10 comfortable scale as they are now?

If you have any doubts, I would suggest wearing them around the house with your thicker socks as you would normally for a few days before making up your mind.

...and I am, well, puzzled. So, I kindly ask for more of your wisdom.

Part 1 of this story is here. Basically, I spotted them on amazon and thought I might give them a go as they are deeply discounted and I need transitional shoes. Plus, adding some oopmh to my wardrobe is very needed. Since everyone is unanimous they are insanely comfortable, I simply had to give them a chance.

Now I have the issue of conversion charts between US and EUR sizing. Long story short, I ordered my size and one size up, but got shoes in US 9 and 10. I had expected 8.5 and 9 or 9 and 9.5.

10 are going back as they are huge.

Which leaves me with size 9. A bit annoying as I have no other options, but I have a feeling 9.5 would be too wide around the ankle, which would be a no-no for me.

Let me start by saying that apart from the very bold pattern, which is growing on me at rapid speed, these booties are simply beautiful. Something about the almond shape toes and overall style is so easy on the eye that they make me happy just looking at them. I would really like one pair in any color. (In every color if I'm honest.)

I can walk around the house in them, but that's not real life striding. I do wear thicker socks with them purely for the sake of testing the tightness factor. I can wriggle my toes, but the shoes do feel a bit tight.

Shannon mentioned that over time they soften rather than stretch. That is crucial as I want all-day shoe.

What is your experience with them? How did you find them changing and adapting to your feet over time? I don't want to keep them (*if* I decide they are not too loud for me) unless I can be sure they will be gentle on my feet.

Thank you.
