Carter, Munro booties come in different widths (I take W). I tried Linda booties and was not anamored with the fit. I think I could not fill the bootie - I and my feet are high volume. Something was off. Also Munro shoes while padded and comfortable do not work for my wider toe box. They feel comfortable at first but after an hour of walking my side toes begin to rub - I think the width tapers off too sharply for my toes. I tries WW but they are too big everywehre else...

Thanks, Viva! I do look a bit like a flower pot in these, but since I prefer pumps with skirts/dresses, I thought they might be ok with jeans tucked in or pulled over. I'll have to see what they look like with pants rolled above the tops...that one may pose a problem.

Thanks, Marley and Echo! They aren't uncomfortable at all, but I definitely don't think they achieve the comfort level everyone raves about with booties. I will say that they feel much better than any of the booties I tried last year.

Thank you, Janet!

I live in booties with skinnies and straight legs all winter, and I tend to wear super skinnies (for me, anyway) right into the bootie. Looser skinnies and straights I either wear over the boot or -- my preference -- cuffed, exactly as Lisa described -- to above the bootie, and when the cold weather sets in, always with socks. The socks do show but then we are all in knitwear so it works somehow. If it's a refined look, then a refined sock; if not, then a slubby one.

I do think that comfort has to be number one. Second is ankle opening. A little is fine, too much and you get flower-pot effect, with your leg looking like the stem growing out of the boot-pot. And you look like you have delicate ankles, so it might be a challenge. (I, alas -- or hooray! -- do not.) I would follow Angie's guidance on brands for sure.

Good luck! I hope you find the right pair.

Thanks, Angie. I'm looking at the Munro booties. I love the look of the Robyn, but the heel is just too high for my toe to bend comfortably. 1" to 1 1/2" is much easier on my joint.

The heel on the Linda's is 1 1/2' inches, but is the shaft height too high?

Also, do Munros run narrow? The Edelmans are good in the toe box in a medium width but too wide in the heel/ankle.

On pinterest I see all sorts of looks for ankle boots from rolled up to show various amounts of leg to tucked in. But to tuck they need to be more like like leggings. I have also seen them kinda scrunched worn with wider leg jeans. All depends on the look you want. On this board it seems to be a no no to wear booties with wider leg openings. They call them flower pots. BUT on pinterest, and other sites and blogs, one sees this wide top booties worn with jeans, pants, and short to midi skirts..and this is the only place I have seen the term "flower pot " used.

I spend my entire winter wearing booties with skinnies or leggings. I do what Janet recommends and roll or sharply cuff (depending on the casual vs edgy factor of the outfit) and wear socks (can be a finer microfibre or more casual slubby kit) to cover any exposed ankle/calf. (especial when sitting) I like the cleaner line of a skinnier pant and sharp ankle book (or tucked into high riding boots) under my heavier winter outerwear. I like these boots a lot on you! And they'd be fantastic in cognac too !!

For skinnies I prefer either rolled up look or if they fit wear them over the top of the booties - but like Suz none of mine are of calf-sucking variety (I just cannot get those ove my calves at all as they are too big to be sucked in )

My eye adjusted to rolled up look now with all those cropped panst and jeans around but you need to be comfortable with it. In anyway I like it better that skinnies tucked into the booties!

Carter, I have done well with the Frye Carson. It's similar to a shootie. It works well with all my skinnies, and I've worn mine with skirts and casual dresses. I got mine at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....PDKIKX0DER). I have them now in a few colors and I wear them constantly. For me, the heel transforms them into more than an oxford. You can also get them in a bootie form (http://www.amazon.com/FRYE-Wom.....efRID=0NFK). For me they run slightly big, so I always size down a half size.

Good thoughts, Karen! I'll keep an eye out for shooties. I'm not really sure how I feel about this experiment yet, honestly. I love the look of booties on others, and I love that so many rave about the comfort factor. The biggest plus for me is having shoes to wear with bootcut pants. I would like to find one or two pair to play with this Fall/Winter. I need them to be slim, refined, have a low heel and be comfortable. Beyond that, I'm still a bit clueless.

Carter, I always have problems with boots like these that don't hug the ankle! I don't know what to do with them either. I think you should find a pair that's more like a shootie and see if they work better for you. That's what I would do. Then any pant you wear will work. I think the only way it will work if you keep these is to have a legging or legging jean that is really slim at the ankle so that it can disappear seamlessly into the boot.

I don't really like the roll on top of the ankle part of the bootie. How do you feel about it?

Thanks, Janet. I'll try rolling them to the top of the bootie. Could I still wear socks with them, or would that look dorky? I'm not sure ankle socks would take up enough space where I need it.

Suz, I think all my skinnies are the calf-sucking variety, but I could definitely try straight legs over the boots. I hear you about leg shape! I felt a bit like a lightbulb.

The boots are attractive! And comfort is huge, especially if you have foot issues.

If the gap is too wide up top you may have trouble with them with skirts but you say you're not going to wear them that way, so not an issue.

Sometimes a chelsea boot with elastic gore will prevent this. I have a pair like that -- they are snug at the ankle and work better with skirts than those that are not.

This may be why they don't present a problem for skinnies. I just pull my pants over the boot and go. Of course this only works for regular skinnies, not the super calf sucking legging variety. I don't care for the way I look with pants tucked into booties -- this is about my leg shape, not a general comment. I get that "cartoon character" look.
