I don't know if this will necessarily help, since price is always a factor, but I remembered this post from Julie. Perhaps you could get a traditional wide calf boot and have them contoured to fit the calf to your calf shape? The process is very simple in this video.
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ler-calves

Oh, I sympathize. I have the problem with calf proportions, where the widest part is lower down. I think you can see this in the photos of the Indigo boots I posted last night. (My theory is that it's because we have muscular rather than just chubby legs!) I have the added problem of having very narrow ankles. Yes, shorter shaft boots are easier to fit but dammit I like my knee-high boots to be actually knee-high and like you, I have long legs for a shortie. One thing that might work is looking for a boot with a longer elastic gore at the top. My grey patent Naots have a very long elastic gore (like 6 inches) which makes them fit sleekly even though they are nominally narrower (14.5") than my actual calf measurement (15").

Glad you got the return shipping waived! It never hurts to ask, does it?

Wow, so nice to hear that 6pm waived the shipping. The Zappos company always impresses me with their service.

I agree with the other ladies that a shorter boot may do it. Since I'm short I had always thought I needed a short boot, but it turned out my shins are long and a taller than average boot works better for me. I bet old-timey boot makers would have laughed at the idea of mass-produced boots.

Yay - glad you got the shipping waived!!

That is so frustrating about the fit. The widest part of my calf is not the top (near the knee) either. It is somewhere in the middle.

Have you tried the Blondo Vegaras that Angie recommended? They are weatherproof and on sale. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/bl.....sultback=0

They work on wide AND narrow calves because of the stretch. Shannon has them.

Thanks again, Joy. I got them to waive the shipping charges, but more as a one-time favor than because the boots didn't fit. I guess I will have to stick with Zappos or anywhere else that guarantees free return shipping if I'm ever ordering boots again.

Thanks, everyone. Joy, I appreciate the heads-up a lot and will try! Rita, I should experiment with your idea. I do think my calves are more close to "standard" in terms of height...this is because I manage tall boots usually, including the Doc 20-eyelets that Angie had told me a petite had never been able to fit (up till me!) From the knee down may even be longer than my upper leg, or at least the same. On thinking about it though, when the online specs mention "shaft opening" or whatever the term as being let's say 15.5", they are talking about the top, which is probably the widest part of the whole boot shaft. And that's not the widest part of my leg, which is about a third of a way down. I also noticed that new member ThePearShape, who talked about the J. Crew boots, has calves that look to me widest toward the top by the knee, so things like these would mean a huge discrepancy in fitting, even with the blanket label "wide calves."

I'm not that disappointed anymore but I do need a nice boot soon or otherwise it's the LL Bean duck boots, which do the job but are decidedly unfab. And here I was trying to step up my game.

Look for slightly shorter boots. 14" high is perfect for shorties like us. I often have problems with boot circumference because the widest point of my calf is lower than an average height person. Finding a shorter boot helps to alleviate this issue. I bought hunters in a kids size. They are slightly shorter than the adults size and they work perfectly. Just remember to order your euro size - I am a 36 (5.5/6).

If it's any consolation, Mochi, I'm sitting here in the Third World with the exact. same. problem. And I even opted for extra give and width (supposedly) to accommodate pregnancy hormones. ::sigh:: Commiserations from half a world away!

It's just too bad. But hey, there has gotta be something right out there for you---at least you're in the kind of climate where boots are common, so there *must* be! No?

Mochi, I had to return some Frye boots last yeat to 6pm. For some reason I had a question about how to return and called customer service. In chatting they asked why I was returning the boots. I said that I'd thought they would work from the measurements given, but that they were too tall and pushed up on my kneecap.
The gentlemani talked too got me free return shipping because they were not as described. You might ask.

And this forum is for our tiny little developed nations problems, my friend. We all live lives outside this and can make them about the bigger things. Still, we all have the right to occasionally grouse about stupid little stuff. We have a community here who sympathize and appreciate that we can't complain or cheer or fret about these things to most of the other folks in our lives because it would bore them to death. So share your little problems without guilt.

Calves. I know. Calves. I never could fit Cole Haan boots either. So many lovely boots with slim calves that I can't fit. Sigh.

Ach. Mochi, I am so sorry.

If it is any comfort to you, boots and skinnies remain an issue for me as well. And for Sarah, too, I know (and I don't think she will mind my saying so). Yeah.....it is the combination of being on the muscular side *and* a bit shorter.

I have discovered that I need to look for boots with a shorter shaft. I have endured too many eye-rolling SA as I tried to do up boots that wouldn't do up, and I always thought I had "wide" calves...but in reality I do not. They are just proportioned differently due to their length (or lack thereof).

You are not complacent. You reasonably wished for boots that would fit.

Ah well. Onward, as Angie says!

Thanks, deb. It is really not a big deal. I guess having small calves is equally frustrating in the boot purchase department! Maybe worse! Because I've managed recently to find stuff. Maybe I've gotten too complacent?

They were really nice black patent boots that were a good Black Friday price.

My calves are just too bulky for this boot. I had thought I could manage based on the measurements they gave.

It's frustrating. I have had some luck with my eating plan but my dang calves are not really budging.

I really could have used some pretty, cool boots for slushy weather here. And it's 6pm.com so I will have to pay for shipping back. Grrr.
