Thanks Caro and Sally - I agree the range in the US is definitely better especially for jeans lengths and sizes, both for men and women. And footwear too! And in the most part the prices are better too.

Chirico - I like 2 although I am not sure that I can wear rust...it was the colour of my school uniform.....that can cause mental scars and permanent poison eye sadly.

I don't think that we follow the Northern Hemisphere as strictly as we used to. The current late summer/autumn ranges are very similar to what is being shown in North America right now for spring in my opinion.

The season from Zara looks similar to Witchery and Country Road at the moment.

I think with online shopping from the UK and US,Southern Hemisphere retailers who want to be at the early stage with trends have to pick up on them immediately. And our climate often lends itself to trans-seasonal clothes as well - so we don't have to wait for the next season to wear things.

Agree on the length of the pants - it's a weird middle ground.
No wisdom on trends spreading patterns, just wanted to say I'd wear the whole #2 look right now!

To be honest I wouldn't even know what was in fashion currently but it would also be to do with the seasons. We are always the season behind so whatever the northern hemisphere are currently wearing, we will wear when it's our winter. You are also probably right about the range too. My in laws live in the US so went twice to visit them but I would have spent all my time shopping if the others had let me. Clothes appeared cheaper too.

Agreeing with Angie - I think we are still behind & we don't get the same range of the trends here. Shoes are WAY behind imo.

I thought that when I saw the jeans picture too - your wisdom has been taken on board.

Yes some of the trends seem to take off here quickly, and others never really come to fruition. And of course, as in the US, there are regional variations. I have not seen a lot of culottes being worn, and as a midi dress lover I still feel like an exception as above the knee is the most popular length. Off the shoulder and cold shoulder looks are very popular this summer, as are short loose pattered shorts (more than denim cut offs finally).

I like it all, Sally. Although the jeans in #1 need to be shorter or longer to my eye.

I still think that trends filter through to the Southern hemisphere later because things start on this side - the North - at the four major Fashion Weeks. Remember that the '70s Trend was big in 2015 - hence you are seeing it now on your side. It happens to be big for 2016 because fashion fads no longer exist, and cross pollination will occur.

It certainly used to be the case that trends here filtered from the Northern Hemisphere...we were at least a season behind.

But I don't think this is the case anymore. I opened an email today from Country Road promoting their latest drop of clothes, and the 70s trends are available right now...as the pictures below show.

Country Road are a chain store, mainstream but with a good eye on trends. I have reasonable success shopping there - mostly the quality is pretty good and I like the styling.

I suspect the inspiration is from the same designers, and fast manufacturing allows us to get a drop in late summer as in the Northern Hemisphere spring clothes are becoming available. But I do not have any insider or industry knowledge?

What do you think?
