In the test with my son's t's I found the bamboo worked sometimes but not at all at other times. The mens tank was great only I found the high neckline different and uncomfortable due to this and the compression on the stomach a bit problematic with my catheter site. The long sleeve hockey t was horrid. The sleeves were very problematic and the compression even more so.

We may be completely wrong but it seems it is a contact allergy with something and perhaps my skin is just too clean. Ds thinks I need a tight something as a barrier between my skin and my clothes. He also thinks if I'm not allergic to wool or cotton that they might hold the allergen and so therefore are irritating.

Went out to the store today and tried on lots. The women's tanks were useless as they did not cover the shoulder blades. I got an Under Armor crew neck t with short sleeves. May have bought it too large but still bought it a size smaller than usual. It is in the wash now so we will see. Unfortunately it only came in black...sigh, the story of my life.

The pants were interesting. Anything that wasn't full length was irritating where it stopped especially when sitting/standing/sitting/standing. The full length boot cut or flares were also irritating as they rubbed and irritated in movement. The legging type ones were nice but they only had a size large in the store which was way too big. Will have to go back and see what the other size is like.

Thanks very much for your help ladies. I went in with my checklist but the fit was everything. Who would have known that different fits would irritate or not so much with just a few differences.

Brilliant Glory. I had looked up Mec but hadn't checked out bamboo, thanks for the link.
Thanks Linda, great advice. I won't be ordering online as I don't know the sizing or the product but will bring in a larger size than normal. Wouldn't have thought of this.
Elpgal silk hasn't worked for me in the past on my top half so wasn't thinking of trying it but things have changed so will check it out too. On the other hand I've always been cold in silk in the winter so it may work perfectly.
Thanks ladies.

How about some silk camis? I am a big fan of the Gap breathe tees but they may by work under all necklines.

Good thread! I do sweat a lot when working out, so am usually keen for workout wear that really does WORK. (Not all of the synthetics do seem to, for me, in our swampy metro DC climate).

Size up if you don't like a body conscious fit, since most workout wear is designed for a close fit, and also, I think most of those companies' sizing is for lean athletic machines (which I am unfortunately NOT, although I never give up lol!).

I agree that the new wools are amazing! I hope something works well for you, Freckles!

Hi - MEC has a few options for tshirts that might be worth trying. They have a light weight merino wool tshirt and also some bamboo options. You can order online and return to the store as well which is quite convenient. Also you can check online to see whether the item is avl in the store.
http://www.mec.ca/shop/womens-.....0020+50122

Mann and April I`m a wool addict and hadn`t heard of that. My current wools are too restrictive and heavy but I really hadn`t thought of really lightweight versions, thanks. I'll be checking them out.
Alexandra thanks for the great tips. Good to know about the Dri-Fit. My son used to be a Nike fashion plate so I'm sure he has one I can borrow and see if it works. I can test out the allergy that way too.
Emily and Clara those gapfit t's look really nice, less like gear. Thanks for the link. I checked online and the store nearest us doesn't have any at the moment but I'm sure as the weather improves so will their stock.
Lots of great advice, information and suggestions ladies. I will be trying these out, thanks so much.

I did get a couple of merino tees from Sierra Trading, but from what I've read you really have to get the "good" ones. Icebreaker seems to be a good brand. Their claim to fame is that merino both wicks and doesn't smell bad when you sweat.

If it ever gets warm here, I'll be testing out those claims.

I'm a bit of a sweaty chick, so when I think the day might cause me to glow I layer with gapfit breathe tees. They are synthetic, feel cotton-like, and handle moisture well. I have a bunch and they have held up well.

In a running top, I look for a comfortable cut and fabric that is soft to touch and wicking (Dri-Fit is my favorite choice). Those are sort of general rules. Running-specific rules include a snug cut (snug because I find the sound of fabric flapping in the wind distracting; if this is not an issue for you, your options are much wider), half-zip neckline and wrist coverage for cool weather, and preferably also a small back pocket for ID and keys.

If you're not allergic to synthetic fibers, I don't see a reason why this wouldn't work. The fabric feels like cotton but performs much better, and dries much faster.

What about merino t-s? They're used as running or other athletic sports base layers, and they come in different weights, including very light. (Main three brands as far as I know are Icebreaker, Ibex and Smartwool) They don't retain smell so if you're wearing one all day and sweat a lot, it might be more pleasant than synthetic. I wear them when I'm active and expect to sweat. I have no idea whether it would work for hot flashes specifically though.

Thanks Mo. The info I've seen for hot flashes has been conflicting. They do recommend cotton which is what my underlayer is made of and isn't working at all. My son has a bamboo t that I can borrow and see if it works. I would never have thought of it, thanks.

Running tops are usually synthetics and may not be the best answer for your issue. Have you tried products sold specifically for hot flashes? I want to say modal bamboo is a natural fiber that's effective if I remember correctly.

I suddenly have these allergies that give me the itchiest skin in the world and severe hot flashes. Was thinking a running t might help with it or at least wicking the sweat away from the skin.
Do you think this would work and what does one look for in a running t?
Tia.
