Ha, I know that jacket! Well then it's worth a try for only thirty bucks. By the way, your citron jacket reminds me of our citron sofa. DH will only wear "dark" but he loves bright furnishings. Go figure.

Una, I've definitely worn the shirt dress before - I guess I must have too much clothes!

Scarlet, I've dyed beige citron before with good results; I've just yet to try a polyester blend. Here're the previous results:http://www.onedollarwonders.bl.....fiber.html

And, for Claire and Sona, the trench is actually Norma Kamali for Walmart! It is the original style that came out in 2009, which is polyester/cotton - not the all-poly one that reviewers say feels like a shower curtain. It's a wonderful coat with lots of details like an arm pocket, those little buttons on the inside that help hold the "real" buttons on, removable epaulets, and a sturdy metal clasp on the collar.

I'm a little sad, because before I left with it on this am, I noticed a stain on the inside. The seller is willing to work with me, but Ebay has made it so that you 1) can only send pictures via personal email and 2) you are not allowed to give out your personal email. Customer service said to have her spell out her email without the @ symbol, but she just isn't understanding. I've tried to give her mine instead, so I hope that works!

Really cute! I love me a plaid shirt dress. The trench is great, but I am unconvinced how well beige could be dyed citron. I would think it would come out dirty looking.

WOW! Somehow I missed the original post where you discuss your new rubric, but I am loving the result! And doesn't this rubric thing feel helpful? I haven't yet come up with my own, but I suspect it is awfully close to Shannon's (if not identical) and somehow watching her (and now you) put together outfits using a rubric has made more bells go off in my head than any of the "style statement" or other analytic systems we've played around with here.

I love this outfit! It's fantastic. That trench bears a marked resemblance to one I know extremely well, though I'm sure it's not the same coat (and if it is, I'll be jealous you got it for less!) I definitely think you should get the beige one to dye if the dye will work.

As for the bag...it is stunning!! What a great trip souvenir.

Freckles, those are great questions! I'm looking at the original product description, and I don't think the fabric was treated with anything. Aside from that, it is a poly cotton blend, so I would have to use two kinds of dye, but I've been "dying" to try out Jacquard's product for manmade fabrics anyhow.

Denise, I never thought I needed outerwear in SoCal, but the layering really helps! Especially now that I have to walk to my office from a detached parking lot, I feel those Spring breezes like crazy.

I am crazy about the belt you are wearing with this dress. It perfects the dress in an insanely cool way.

A citron trench is a brilliant idea! It will instantly spring/summerize any outfit. Go for it! You will get a ton of use out of it.

Which is the way I am starting to feel about outerwear. I get so much use out of it. It is not too much to have several trenches, coats etc in different weights. I have not regretted one of my outerwear purchases this year. Coats add instant style. Not to mention they make me feel so safe.

I'm all up for getting the trench to dye. Would it still be waterproof? Would the dye run in the rain? Would the dye attach itself to the trench which is suppose to repel water?

I had to make myself stop staring at the bag! It's just too cool. Amazing. And looks great in the rubric.

I will say that I was all for waiting on another trench but the black is fitting well and dyeing a $30 version seems logical - can't wait for step by step details!

Did the rubric make it easier or harder to put things together?

Well! There goes my 1 item/month plan... perhaps DIYs don't count? Because it's actually "art," right? Um... lol. Deets on the trench as soon as my phone will let me online to get the dyable one. Grrr, I might have to leave the building or something - never had this problem before.

Claire, FAB insight re: the bag! It IS a saddlebag shape isn't it? I never would have noticed, but perhaps that is what helped me trancend my aversion to cat prints? I don't know the difference between calf hair and pony hair, but it's one of those (no tag for me to reference).

I'm very hopeful that the rubric will continue to pay off. Although I've worn this dress before, my list made it easier to decide which necklace and which bag to pair with it. For a while, I also tried to force a colorful scarf on myself, but remembered that the requirement is "bright" and not "colorful."

Today's outfit, putting "Bright, Dark, Structured, Waist, Tough" into effect.

Bright: White portions of large scale plaid, shiny tiger necklace
Dark: Black, chocolate items
Structured: Bag, shirt dress (not most structured ever, but not flowy)
Waist: Cognac belt
Tough: Belt, Boots, Trench

And yes, the trench is the retroactive March purchase. This is almost exactly what I had considered buying in Italy, but the one I tried there was too big. The measurements on this were just what I wanted - slim, fitted, and LONG. And the price was right, so I pounced. Straight leg jeans wait another month... but I will wear this for tomorrow's predicted thunder storms. Flog me if you must, but I have no regrets... the bad thing is now I want to get the beige version (available for $30 shipped) to dye citron! Eep!
