Thank you so much for sharing, this is really helpful. I have always been a re-sale shopper but in the last 10 years I have gone crazy with thrifting. I am very tired of having a clostet full of clothes that I bought because they were cheap. I don't plan on giving up my thrifty ways but I do plan on buying what I want even if that mean paying retail prices. I just don't want to make expensive mistakes so I need to understand what I really want.

In my job my clothes get ruined extremely fast so I will never be wearing anything nice to work, that means wearing good clothes is on weekends and I will grab what I love and it would be helpful in understanding what makes me love certain things over others.

I do something similar, but split into three parts: specific elements I love (e.g. leather, denim, heels, turtlenecks, geometric patterns), my influential decades (40s, 60s, 70s, 80s), and then three overarching style goal descriptors (punk/urban, Euro-chic, retro/vintage). I'm not sure I could break it down into something as concrete as Shannon's rubric, but I definitely admire how well it's working for her and Rae

Yep, that's the thread. What really attracted me to this idea (and led me to copy Shannon ASAP, natch) is how much it speeds up outfit analysis. Rather than wondering what under the sun my outfit's missing, I can tick off everything it *should* have on one hand. Takes some time and effort to create the list, but saves so much time overall - especially in the morning, when my mental powers aren't fully warmed up.

Hi Tracina - thought I'd pop in and let you know how I came about this idea. I started thinking about why some of my outfits felt so much better on and made me feel more like "me" than other outfits. I didn't want specific items (i.e. that blue blouse, that black skirt) but more ELEMENTS as to why an outfit worked for me. I came up with the following things that if I included at least three of them, I felt good:

- Structure
- Colour
- Classic
- Vintage
- Urban

After listing these items, Rae came up with the brilliant concept that these elements formed my Style Rubric and I've been using that formula ever since. I must say, it hasn't steered me wrong yet. Some outfits have all of these elements, and some only have a few. Hope this helps!

Tracina, I am not sure but I think it all started here:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....va-va-voom

There may have been a post prior to this but I couldn't find it. I think it started with Shannon listing the constants in her outfits and Rae suggesting this makes for a style rubric.

And thanks, you gave me something to do over my lunch break instead of heading out to the shops (Im on SYC)

xxx
