Wow! I never thought there would be any advantage to being bowlegged! My thighs are DARN chubby, but I have to work hard to get them to touch at all.

Ok for the Moms out there - baby cornstarch lotion (a baby powder alternative) works really well. A little messy though. I'm trying body glide now because I bought some for blisters, and it does work, but it feels moister. Baby cornstarch feels dry, basically you forget you are sweating/chafing.

I just wanted to add in another vote for the Gap sculpting shorts which I discovered a couple months ago and are my holy grail of defense against thigh rubbing! I've tried a bunch of the other suggestions and here's my feedback on each:

pettipants: worked better than nothing, but the quality varies--I'd get some that weren't cut properly on the grain and so twisted all the time, or bunched up. In general weren't that pleasing to wear because of the low quality of the polyester material.

bike shorts: I got some by Danskin, too thick to be comfortable, and even then would still ride up. Also tried the cotton ones from American Apparel, these were my go to but didn't breathe very well, would get quite sweaty and sometimes would still ride up

bandalettes: I haven't tried that brand, it was another brand that had a similar idea of separate items on each thigh and honestly they felt so strange to wear without going all the way up, so I still prefer something that's connected

anti-chafing gels: I haven't tried most of the ones mentioned here, like Monistat, but I use a blister block for my underarms when working out with sleeveless tops and it's ok but I wouldn't want to test it out for a full day out and about

Those silk ones might work well but in general I think that anything that hangs loose is at risk for bunching up (or doing that weird walk to let them "drop" occasionally). If they fit you, I think the Gap shorts are the way to go, especially since Gap runs sales so often that you can probably get them for less than $25. I usually wear a size 14 in jeans/pants/dresses from stores like the Gap/J.Crew and the XL in the sculpting shorts fits me well, with no cutting in on the leg bands (which are flat) or the waistband.

There's a cream called 3B Action Cream that is similar to the Monistat but not as slippery feeling. I found at Walmart but also it's on amazon, made by neatfeet. I have used on feet too and it was great.

I mentioned it somewhere else, but Dick's Sporting Goods carries BodyGlide, although I haven't tried it myself. As an alternative, a dancer friend recommended using solid antiperspirant on the bikini line to prevent bumps and irritation from swimsuit/leotard chafing and I've been doing that for years now. It works really well, although I've never tried it on the inner thighs. Sorry if that's TMI.

LOL
My thighs do not rub anymore, but they used to and I even got serious problems. Once I even bled because of so much rubbing -I was wearing jeans but somehow the crotch dropped and my thighs started to rub badly. I opted for wearing track-shorts under my skirts, the ones you find at gear-stores. Gym shorts. I'm sure you can find better solutions, but this is what I did.

Oh, what a timely question, Angie! I hope somebody suggests something, because I just can't find anything that works 100% for me.

The anti-chafing gels help some, but if you sweat a lot, they have to be constantly reapplied -- not an option when you're running around all day long.

Light control shapewear is a good option, except that I can't find a pair of good mid-thigh shorts that do not cut into my flesh. Even shorts with laser-cut edges do that, simply because my thighs are fleshy. The line the shorts create is very obvious under pencil skirts. I most recently tried the Commando thigh shaper, which is great in every respect except for the thigh bind problem. Ack! So for me, the search continues.

I like pettipants (also called culotte slips). I get these nylon ones and wear them over my regular cotton underwear. Bonus, it works as a slip if your skirt is unlined. They come in shorter lengths too but they don't work for me because they just ride up above the chafing part. Eta: I have really disproportionately long thighs though, so the shorter ones might be fine for others.

By the way, the cotton ones are AWFUL, thick and bunchy. Stick to the nylon.
I have bike shorts too but honestly I don't like to wear tight things in the heat. Pettipants are loose and much more comfy.

Monistat Anti-Chafing Powder Gel is also good. :) Plus you can use it as a foundation primer for your face -- I swear it feels exactly like the expensive Smashbox primer!
