I took my anti-inflammatories for ten days, and my shoulder is much better. I still have a little pain, but nothing compared to before. Mostly I have pain when I do my exercises. :(

I guess my school teacher friend diagnosed me incorrectly!

janet I hope you are feeling better. I just saw this. My occasional bouts of RC pain tend to resolve with rest and anti-inflammatories. But I don’t always know what triggered them. Sometimes I just seem to wake up with pain.

Steroid injection. Physical therapy. They initially diagnosed me with a partial tear, and recommended steroid injection. I hate steroids, so we tried p.t. first. It got better, then I strained it and everything went haywire (back, ribs, pectorals, etc); so doc said injection and I consented. It helped the actual shoulder, but everything else was still acting up so physical therapy again.
Anti-inflammatory meds (aleve or ibuprofen) and muscle relaxers help a lot with healing. Just be careful not to do more damage because you overdid it because the meds worked so well (I'm definitely guilty as charged lol)

Hope you feel better fast!

I was recently diagnosed with shoulder impingement syndrome due to arthritis. PT has been reducing my pain. I also needed to alter my sleep position.

Thank you for sharing. I took the medicine last night and was able to sleep without pain! I’m having a few people over this morning, but will do my stretching exercises this afternoon.

I injured my right shoulder falling off a ski tow. I rehabbed it myself by doing passive range of motion exercises (I prescribe them all the time so I know how they work). After 6-8 weeks it settled down and now I have better range than before the injury (I can reach into the back seat while driving).

A couple of years later, my left shoulder was giving me trouble. There was no injury. The exercises didn't help. I finally saw the physio, who concluded that my shoulder was fine, but my spine was way too stiff, so the shoulder had to work too hard. That time the exercises took a lot longer and it relapses if I forget.

My point (if I have one) is that rotator cuff injuries can often heal if you rehab them correctly from the start.

My doctor has prescribed anti-inflammatories and exercises/stretches. If this doesn’t work, then we’ll go the xray/MRI route. She said my shoulder didn’t make crinkly sounds. I think that’s probably good!

Thanks again for your advice.

You are doing the right thing. I injured my rotator on a Nautilus machine (called the "pec wreck") more than 30 years ago, right before Thanksgiving. I ignored it because I had out-of-town houseguests. Then came the frozen shoulder and eventually pt.

I was diligent in exercising for decades, but in recent years haven't paid much attention. Guess what, I'm now having upper back and shoulder issues. That same shoulder. I'm working on it with exercises from my doctor, but I might have to go back to physical therapy next year.

Definitely go visit your doc or PT. I've had shoulder issues on and off over the last couple of years (my left shoulder kept me off of my bicycle for all of 2018). My PT had some good exercises and did some dry needling which helps, but it also may be an overall alignment issue. I know how that twist-and-reach moment can do a number on you -- I've felt that twinge many times dealing with dogs and camera gear.

Are you sure it’s a rotator cuff injury? I had calcific tendinitis which came on rapidly after bowling (first time using big balls, so heavy!) and it was brutal. I couldn’t dress myself, drive, and was in agony until I got a cortisone shot followed by PT. Your doc should send you for an x-ray or other imaging and then you can proceed from there.

PT as soon as possible. I’ve had problems with both shoulders and the first time I stopped using the arm much and it was much harder to rehab.
It’s possible that you will need an MRI.
I saw an orthopedist who specialized in shoulders.

Yup. See the doc. I had some shoulder RC issues and a chiro/physio got me back swimming after a bout of frozen shoulder. While injured, sleeping was the hardest. Advil and some fancy pillow placement helped, but the chiro tx and physio exercises resulted in full pain free range of motion - though my shoulder still snaps, crackles, and pops!

Has anyone had this injury? How did you resolve it? Apparently I injured myself at Thanksgiving. I might have been wrestling stuff in the back seat of the car. I don’t remember. It’s been three weeks. I have trouble putting on a coat, trouble sleeping, even playing the ukulele. I guess I should see my primary care doctor.
