Laura raises some good points, and Angie's posts on the subject are very helpful. You do just have to accept that it's not a leg lengthening look; there are things you can do to combat that, but they aren't always necessary if you are at peace with the legs looking a bit shorter. We are all going to have a slightly different "sweet spot" for where the pants need to end, and it may even differ per pant. Experiment and take some photos, whether or not you share them you'll find it helpful to figure out what proportions work best for you.

I resonate with what Laura's comment as well. I am 5'6" but have proportionally short legs and am curvy in the hips/rear/thighs. Ironically I've found that showing some ankle skin works for me with rolled skinnies and boyfriend jeans because it evens out the proportions for a more straight look. Not a longer leg line, but a sleeker bottom half that appears more straight. One thing I also like about boyfriend jeans is that I don't have to worry about PPL when switching from flats to a heel or wedge. So, if I have an outfit where I can wear flats most of the day but switch out to a more flattering shoe for going out, that feels like a win to me.

Wear the look if you love it. It has to be just flattering enough, as they say.

Wear with gusto! Fashion is supposed to be fun, and it is fun to ignore rules we just don't like. Such as our legs must always look long even when we born with short ones

Laura, I think you have a good point.
I' ve decided that I'm going for it, whatever I may look like. I like the style of rolled/cuffed jeans, it feels fresh, modern, and youthful. I'll try to be aware of where it hits on my leg to help mitigate some of the leg shortening thing.

I've been wrestling with the whole rolled and cropped pants thing as well, and I've come to believe that it's not so much about how tall you are or how long your legs are; it's about your figure type. Those that are more rectangular through the legs can do the roll thing without it being as foreshortening, whereas if your legs are bigger at the thigh/butt and slim to the ankle, as with those of us with more curves, it's more challenging.

Angie has had several good posts about maximizing figure flattery with rolled or cropped pants, too.

Hi! [*First official post...just joined the forum! Ha!]

Soooo...it took me a while to feel comfortable with the rolled/cuffed jeans thing...but I say - just go for it! I purchased my first pair of black "booties" back in January (yeah - late bloomer, that's me!). Since the bootie is close in color to my jeans, the leg is elongated whether I roll or cuff. Although, I "cuffed" the other day and my (female) CIO said, "Wow, did you get taller?!" - so, go figure!

Honestly, I think anything goes! Pumps, boots, sneakers, flats. Just go for it! It's all in the attitude! Right?! :-)

Yes, cuffed jeans can make my legs look shorter. I just don't see that as a negative.

I am short with average (or possibly shorter than average) legs, and I have decided that I don't care if rolling is leg shortening, because I like the slouchy vibe.

So I've been looking a ton of photos of real people in rolled/cuffed jeans. Though I love the look, I am now a firm believer that this is a very difficult look for many women to wear, me being one of them. It really does foreshorten the leg line. Sooo, do we of the shorter leg variety skip this trend, or wear it with gusto knowing it's not our best look? I've seen some adorable outfits, but I have noticed that many of the women do look shorter. Maybe it's time that short is the new tall.
