I know, I do that too. I have one poor skirt that's been on and off the pile a few times. I like the boots overall. I'm not crazy about the heel, have you thought about having it replaced? It's not a deal breaker though. They do fit you really well.

"For me now when I go through the toss or keep stage I ask myself "does this fit the style that I am right now" if not I put them in the toss pile. You can always store them away and if you find yourself dressing and you think the boots would finish off the outfit you can pull them out and give it a whirl. "

Yes, this is what I've been trying to do. And I keep finding myself pulling from the toss pile lol or throwing in something I thought for sure I'd keep. I need closet police over here to regulate ha ha. Right now I decided an orphaned MK skirt I'd bought very recently on eBay, and then paid to have tailored needs to go. It was just never right from the start (down to being navy when it was advertised as black!) It's sssssoooooo hard though.

Mo I echo what Auburn said - maybe another way to wear them is with bootcut jeans for a bit of a different look? For me now when I go through the toss or keep stage I ask myself "does this fit the style that I am right now" if not I put them in the toss pile. You can always store them away and if you find yourself dressing and you think the boots would finish off the outfit you can pull them out and give it a whirl.

Thanks for chiming in Auburn. They are my only brown boots EVER. I tend to think like you that they can be my 'good for now' boots unless/until another pair comes to take their place. And as you mentioned, they actually fit my 12 1/2 inch calves! So it may be quite a while until replacements that fit come my way. I don't mind looking a little different than the trend at the moment, but don't want to cross that line into too dated. I wear them a few times each year, always with skirts before. So I do think that over pants could be a fun new spin on them. Just don't want to be too far out of the fashion curve ;)

AJ, thanks for reassuring me they are more funky than dated. I know it's a fine line.

I think they're funky in a cool way. This is the perfect kind of outfit for these boots. They look great with the jeans tucked in and it adds to the touch of boho vibe of the ensemble.

Mo,
I can't really see the toes on these but they don't look too extreme.
If anything, I think it's the heel on these that dates them--I think you're better off with a flat boot, a stiletto or a chunky heel.
BUT, I think your decision to toss or keep really turns on (1) how often you have worn them and (2) what other boots you have in your collection. If these are your only brown boots and the recent experimenting with an over-the-jeans look makes you more likely to try that look more, I'd hang on to them. At least until another booth strikes your fancy. On the other hand, if they are but one of several pairs of boots and are unlikely to be worn but once in a blue moon, then toss them for something you'll get more use out of.
These look like they fit you well in the calf and are nice leather, so my personal vote is to hang on to them for a bit. If you make it to January and have yet to wear them (or wear them successfully), then I think you can toss with clean conscience.

I have several *almost* items in my closet that I can't bring myself to get rid of.
Some I paid to have tailored to try and fix them and they still aren't quite right but it seems wasteful to toss 'em. Some may be on the verge of dated but perhaps can be saved through creative pairing with more modern items. I am going to try this week to wear all of my almosts. Hopefully I can decide whether to toss or save once and for all! I have at least 4 items in mind off the top of my head. Wish me luck! Pics to follow. :)

ETA: For today - some older boots that I've never worn over pants before. My concern is the pointy, almost western style, toes. Too dated or kinda funky? All honest opinions welcome!
