Beth, good to know, and thanks! I guess I should follow them on FB to see how that plan goes to introduce a new length between 2 and 3.

I’m 5’5” and tried the #3 length and felt it was just too much material, even though I have long legs.

Ripskirt’s FB page says that they’ll be introducing a length between #2 and #3 in late July. They didn’t say whether the hem would be curved or not, but clearly there are a lot of requests for a longer, but not long, skirt.

I am eager to see what you think. I am in the exact same situation and your thoughts reflect my own, which is why I have not yet ordered a Ripskirt. I much prefer the style of the midi, but on me it might be a maxi and I am not sure how sensible that would be for active days at the lake. For lounging a long skirt would be wonderful!

I am in the same situation as you are regarding the length of these skirts. My ideal skirt is 23 inches long from waist to hem. 22 inches in a fuller summer skirt is usually ok as it hits on the knee, not just below. I will see what you do.

I just placed an order for the Length2 and Length3, accepting that I might have to return both. According to my measurements etc I'd take a L, but I've lost some weight and am finding that sometimes the size that fits right is smaller than my measurements would indicate, so if I want to order a smaller size I'm good with that too. They do returns via USPS so will cost $10-15 I think. I got the pattern called black pearl batik. I decided to order from the company directly and give them ALL the business instead of going through Amazon.

Thanks Suz, I see what you mean about the diff between photos taken by you vs Mr Suz; a subtle but visible difference.

RobinF - DUH of course shortening it from the top could be an option, depending on how it's constructed! Thanks for mentioning it so I can look at it with that in mind.

Laurie thanks for posting the photo. Hah, your mom is just an inch shorter than me! It looks a tiny bit longer on you than on Suz, which is probably due to those small differences in leg proportion, overall body shape etc.

Hi- I am 5’4” and here is where it hits me. My 5’0” Mom loved the skirt but it came to her ankles. Too long. Shame there is not a P length.

I ordered a 2 length, and think it should hit just above my knee.

I was wondering the same thing Chris! I love the curved hem but am worried about the length. Another thing, I wonder if it could be hemmed from the waist. Cut off, remove the velcro and resew it further down. Not sure how much curve there is and how big it would make the waist but might be easier than making a nice curve if cutting off the bottom.

Chris, you could sew this soooo easily, I'm sure. I'd order them both and see what you think. It would simply be a question of scaling it down a bit. And the fabric is absolutely the same stuff they use on board shorts.

I'm 5' 4" on a tall day. And yes, the skirt is longer on me than on the model for sure, but not as long as it appears in my first set of photos which are very foreshortened due to Mr. Suz's height. The ones I took myself are more accurate (though still a bit foreshortened). It comes to mid-calf.

I like the curved hem much better for sure (for myself).

I tried the #3 ripskirt and it just did not work on me at all. Very long and too shapeless on me. And I am about 5’5”. I really. I just got no look or feel of ease or movement or casual breeziness with it.
My sense is that midi length will not be so great for you even though I believe the “ look” depends on multiple factors of one’s shape, waist, height, and personal preferences, so can be hard to tell until see IRL, since it seems to just work better for some.
I did not think the shorter one would work for me.
I agree they need an in- between!

thanks Suntiger...yes exactly a 25" ish version would be just right! Not holding my breath....:-)

Janet...thanks SO much for that link, that looks like just the right type of fabric! Now that I have an idea of what to call it, I can do other searches. And you are right that I could possibly make a pattern just from looking at the skirts once they arrive, although I find that a professionally made pattern is usually better in terms of subtle details. There are SO many more patterns available now than the Vougue/McCalls/Butterick brands we had to choose from (here in the US) back when I made some of my own clothes.

Yes Preppy Pear, the curved hem might not feel "too much fabric" as much as a typical straight-hemmed midi might. The weight and drape of the fabric will make a difference too.

I also wonder if the curved hem of the midi length might be less overwhelming then a typical midi - sort of a half tuck for the legs? Excited to see which length you end up with, or if you make your own!

Hmm, yes, I can see exactly what you mean — even if I preferred a shorter skirt, I like the curved hem of the midi length better.

It seems to me it would not be a hard item to make! The fabric reminds me of my husband’s swimsuits, or board shorts — it’s lightweight and doesn’t wrinkle, but it’s not plastic-y, IYKWIM. I found this site with what I think is a similar type of fabric: https://www.thefabricfairy.com.....ort-prints

You could order both to try, and if neither works, you could probably work up a pretty good pattern just by looking at how they are made. I’d be tempted to try myself, and I have only the most rudimentary machine sewing skills!

I’ve been thinking of trying the Ripskirt that has been a hot topic here recently. I’ve been studying the sizing info on the Ripskirt web site, Amazon, and postings here by Janet, and Suz plus Angie's original fab find posting. (Did I miss any others fabbers who modeled it for us?)

I think I know what size to order, but the length is the question.

Length2 is around 19-20” long, called “short”, with a straight hem, which would hit me at the knee. This would be a good length for me; I find showing most of my legs in a skirt or dress is proportionally very balanced given how short I am. It might in fact be a tiny bit shorter than I’d prefer.

Length3 is 10-12" longer, “midi”, with a curved hem. I looked at photos of Janet (5’8”?) and Suz (5’4”?), and from where the hem hits on them I’m extrapolating that it would be ankle length on (5’1”) me. it looks like the model is Janet's height or a bit taller, which makes sense, models tend to be in that height range. I’m not a huge fan of that length on me although for a lightweight summer skirt it could be ok.

I like the style of Length3 better than Length2. The curved hem is much prettier, less classic/preppy, a little sexier, than the straight hem on Length2, but Length3 looks too long for me.

Here is what I’m thinking of doing:

Order a Length2 and a Length3, see how I like them on.

If Length3 seems too long as I expect, I could possibly shorten it. The mechanics could be simple (I do have sewing skills) but keeping that curved shape just right could be a bit tricky. I’d probably have to make a paper pattern….

I could try making one myself, a similar pattern is probably available, but I don’t expect it would be easy to find a similar fabric. I get the impression the Ripskirt company has put a lot of time and effort into creating that fabric.

Wold love to hear any other ideas or suggestions. Thanks!
