This outfit is really fabulous and practical. I like it!
I cannot speak of a "favourite" outfit or formula - my " dressy" Winter items are very few so I end up putting together the same outfit again and again.

Suz - I agree. Since I wear sneakers often, anytime I wear any height of heel, I feel dressed up.

Rachel, thanks. I think especially in climates where we typically need a topper for at least part of the day at most times of year, it is very common to think in outfits, because typically, we have fewer toppers and tops / bottoms (or dresses) and only certain toppers work with the bottoms/ tops/ dresses we wish to wear.

Jaime, I love that twist on it -- a styling trick on repeat! I am going to have to think on that. I believe Brooklyn does this, too, especially with layering an open weave over another top.

Bijou, I know 100% what you mean about the wild card workhorse items! It's so strange, isn't it? I mean -- leopard is great for your colouring and it is trending, and the shape of the skirt and top is also brilliant for you, so I know it must look sensational (and also be quite versatile and move nicely into early fall for you also...) but still...I have had that same feeling of " should I or shouldn't I" spring for this item or set of items -- only to be wowed by its use-value once I bring it home. The pants here were a little bit like that. In terms of style etc. they were a no-brainer for me -- but -- they seemed a bit dressy for my real life, they weren't "necessary" strictly speaking, and I wondered if they were worth the financial outlay. Seems they were!

Column, thank you!

Ket, I think you are absolutely right to be buying right now. You've just come off a tough time of sickness and an inability to focus much on your own needs due to childcare and other responsibilities. You are ready to look your amazing best!

Lisa, isn't it amazing how just a bit of a heel can make a difference in how "dressy" an outfit feels? The heels here are 2 inches which is very do-able for me but at the same itme is more than I usually wear these days. So I do feel dressed up!

Kyle -- thank you! You are so kind.

Jenni, you are right -- your olive snakeskin pants are similar in that they are a subtle pattern/ texture that just elevates everything else, without feeling precious to wear.

We also do not go out as much as we used to and don't entertain as much either. But I have worn these pants for "at home" festive dinners just with the family. For example, I wore them on New Year's Eve at home with Mr. Suz. I wore them out for dinner twice with girlfriends, and once with the family, and then another time at home with a few extended family members, and so on.

Dee, I get it. Life has just become more casual. But I really love items that feel casual and dressy at the same time so that I can enjoy that sense of being dressed up without feeling stuffy.

Fantastic outfit!! Can absolutely understand repeating this and it feels like it could fit in with different vibes, just with tweaks of outerwear and bags. Absolutely love the belt as well!

I often think in full outfits so I do quite a bit of repeating especially if it’s with different groups of people.

Gorgeous outfit Suz and absolutely bears repeating! In my last post I showed how I use a styling trick on repeat (sweater over mesh/lace top) and I think I do that even more than I outfit repeat. I definitely repeat components all the time, and pieces constantly - I tend to use a small, unintentional capsule of clothes for a few weeks or longer before moving on.

Wow Suz, you are a style icon!

My latest rinse and repeat outfit is a leopard skirt and top with the trusty Gucci pearl belt, gold and leopard sandals and black and gold cross body bag. Worn to summer Christmas parties, book club, to see Spandau Ballet in concert and even just grocery shopping - it's so comfy to wear.

My other two summer dresses that are my go-to's that when I need something that I know I enjoy wearing are also in Finds. I wore the blue dress recently to a school reunion, these are at least 3 years old.

The strange thing is, I never can predict what will be that wonderful item until I have it in my wardrobe. I was a bit on the fence with the leopard skirt and top in store - but it has been brilliant.

You look sensational as ever, Suz SQUEEEE!!! So elegant, yet a touch edgy. Just perfect!

The last several months I find myself trying a lot of new clothes. The outfits I have repeated aren't visually exciting, if I'm honest. Perhaps that's why I've purchased so many new clothes lately? I think I'm still figuring out what feels both me and visually flattering. I have a feeling the new tropical pants I bought will be outfit repeaters this summer.

15 years ago, I wore the heck out of H&M knit harem pants. It was always a camisole, harem pants, gladiator sandals, and an armful of bangles. At the time I felt like the cat's meow in that outfit formula. My husband found an old photo of me in said outfit. It wasn't stellar on me like I remembered it being ha! I also used to wear a pair of J. Crew chinos (beautifully fitted through the hips with an a-line wide leg -- just to die for) with my J. Crew denim shirt knotted at the waist and cute sandals or wedges. That is an outfit I wouldn't mind repeating again even now, tbh.

Such a great post and discussion! I loved visiting this subject.

This outfit is certainly worthy of it's repeat status, it's lovely on you!

I am also a fan of repeating outfits. Often when I find a combination I like, I tend to stick with it. Then when boredom sets in, I'll look for a new outfit combination.

For dress up occasions I rarely change the formula. I am a pants gal, so it's usually pants, boots with a heel or shoes with a heel or wedge (not a high heel, it's just not a flat shoe), and a blouse or knit top.

This is beautiful, I have liked it in other posts. I love the pattern of your pants. That particular pair would be too wide for my preference but I am reminded of my favourite olive snakeskin pants which have that same subtle patterning which to me adds interest. I can wear them in several seasons since I have olive sandals and also olive snakeskin boots, and I can dress what goes on the top half up or down somewhat.
I feel sad that we don’t seem to have quite as many going out occasions in the years since the pandemic. I could make more occasions of course but the move of our best friends 3 years ago from 5 minutes up the road to 25 minutes up the road has done a number on the last minute dinners. We have other friends but more organisation is required and also we both seem to be more and more tired from our work in the past couple of years.
I do have a 40 years since graduation medical school class reunion coming up late March and a trip to Australia for sister-in-law’s 60th birthday coming up late June so can plan outfits for those occasions.

I can see why you enjoy repeating this outfit, it's totally a winning formula on you.
Boy, dress up occasions are so rare for me these days, however I usually start with dark pants or my fancier dark denim which are mostly reserved for just such occasions. Then all I have to do is add one of my nicer tops, and perhaps a necklace and bingo, I feel suitably dressed up.

Angie, that is absolutely right. I need a dressy pair of silver boots. I do have "pumps" -- slingbacks -- but those don't have enough of a heel for me to wear with these pants. But my silver sandals would work if they didn't feel seasonally confused. And my black EF pumps work beautifully. I can also wear my off-white Eccos with a different type of top.

You're dead right on all the coats/ jackets, too. The jacquard snow queen coat is in my holding zone. I can't bear to part with it but rarely get the right temps to wear it. It's not really warm at all. So it's more of a late fall early spring non-rainy weather coat -- or a "driving" coat, if you know what I mean. We did drive last night but had a bit of a walk after parking to get to the venue.

Kkards, that's interesting, right? Sometimes one piece really only works with one other, but the rest of the pieces in the outfit cross over. I actually wear all these pieces separately in different outfits as well. But my sarong shorts outfit was quite strict for a number of years -- it was the only way I wanted to wear them!

Sharan, yes, I'm all about reducing decision fatigue. But at a certain point I do get bored and want to switch it up -- and weather plays a huge role in my decisions. Pretty soon this outfit will feel too "wintery" for going out.

Slim cat -- the belt is really great and I think you would love the style because it is infinitely adaptable -- you can wear it as a hip belt or a waist belt due to the design. For your low rise pants it would be perfect.

Sarah, I'm sitll wondering what you wore to that fancy event you had to attend earlier this winter? ! Did you ever report on that for us?

Wooohoooo! Outfit repetition, FTW!

Suz, milking an outfit formula - and outfit - that works is a great strategy! Changing it when it no longer feels fab – is another great strategy :)

You look radiantly KILLER gorgeous, and elegant! An outfit worth MANY repeats. LOVE this on you!

Good variation-tweaks with the topper and bag too. Your navy coat works beautifully here - which you probably wore last time. As would your navy moto. And don't you have a fancy grey jacquard coat too? I couldn't find it in your Finds.

And I see a pair of refined silver boots or pumps in your future. Perfect under these trousers, for example! I know you're off the silver boots you have. Need something less chunky, probably. All in good time!

Sometimes when something works it just works.
i have a sweater that I only wear with a certain pair of jeans. And that pair of jeans i always wear with a certain pair of boots. (But I wear those jeans with posts of other sweaters.)

Such a gorgeous example of a multi-purpose outfit. I like your approach; I imagine it simplifies things a lot. I tend to do just the opposite: start from scratch for every occasion. (Not in buying, but in putting together an outfit.) There are so many factors that go into my decision of what to wear for going out--or even going to a relatively casual family get-together. And I have a lot of "occasion" pieces that I'm eager to wear when an opportunity arises.

Great look- love the shiny belt ( still looking for something similar )!
All my work outfits are repeat formulas and most of my regular off work looks too - however the fancy looks are so rarely needed that they are almost don't exist in my wardrobe ( it would be something of a challenge to do one - lol ).

I like seeing outfit repeats! Helps normalize re-wearing, a helpful antidote to the constant new-new-new we see in media and advertising. Good de-influencing here!

I'm trying to think if I have a go-to fancy outfit. For a long time, it was my green drape-neck sweater with gold metallic flecks (worn with whatever bottom best fit the occasion), but that's not fitting so well at the moment so I'm branching out...

I love to find an outfit I can repeat for various occasions during a season — particularly a dressy capsule outfit. I don’t have a lot of need for dressy clothes so if I find the right combination of items that makes me feel fab and is practical, I will often repeat it again and again within one year (or up to three years). After that, I’ll typically want to find a new combination. I will continue to wear the individual items in different combinations, but perhaps less frequently.

Last night, Mr. Suz and I went to dinner and a play -- a rare outing, yay! Weather was pleasant and dry. I wore my trusty flocked navy menswear pants (Anthro), my mesh top from Allsaints, my silver belt from Anthro, Pom Pom London bag, and my vintage leather trench. Plus Ecco booties and Merjuri pearl earrings.

This -- with only minor variations (e.g. the belt and the outerwear/ bag) has been a go-to outfit for dinners out and festive dinners at home since early November when I purchased the top, belt, and pants. I've worn the combination even more times than I've shown it here on the forum. I didn't plan to post today because I know you've all seen it a bunch of times, but the subject of Angie's blog made it fit right in.

I've done this with slightly more casual outfits, too. I used to wear my sarong shorts, a navy tee (for a column of colour) and a denim jacket on repeat for so many in -between occasions in warm weather. Ditto my two piece J. Crew dress with a denim jacket. Red velvet pants with off-white sweater or top has been a real winter repeat outfit; ditto my lilac pleather pants and the print velvet top from Anthro.

If you do this, what have your favourite outfits or formulas been?
