Upscale lingerie in gorgeous textiles and laces... that seem to be made solely for A/B cup, and modeled by someone with zero hip to waist to bust ratio. Seeing a lot of ads, as Valentine’s Day approaches.

Curvy girls want some damn silk and lace lingerie, too.

To everyone who's tired of sneakers, I would say this: I'll take the acquired taste of sneakers with everything over the long era when everything was either a ballet flat or a high heel.

I’ve said to friends more than once that I’m tired of seeing all the over-the-top embellishments, such as pearls, bows, piles of lace, etc. on shirts and some sweaters. Any of those in small doses can be very attractive, but I don’t need a shirt with dozens of bows, or whatever.

Sonce, I want fashion sneakers to go away in general! Used to be, when you bought gym shoes/sneakers/tennies, you either got Keds or you knew you were getting support and cushioning, because that's what sports calls for. I wore sneaks with skirts in the 80s, and probably could've played tennis in them too. With these things there's no telling. Now get off my lawn! That gym shoe is a spy!

The things I personally am over don't really have to do with fashion, over saturation, retail choices, or what other people wear. My short list is more like things I've worn for years that I've come to realize don't suit me very well! E.g. stripes and plaid, very classic or even preppie looks, boyish or masculine shapes and details.

Actually, maybe some of this is to do with what's in fashion. I kind of want the trend of wearing fashion sneakers with anything to go away -- but this is selfish of me, because I am jealous that other people wear it so well and it just looks weird on me!

I like cropped pants for their versatility - I don’t have to think what kind of shoes would work with it. I recently bought and returned a nice full length pants from COS. They looked good with 1 inch pumps but not flats or oxfords. I don’t want to buy pants that don’t work with most of my shoes.
I have a pair of full length summer silk pants - same story, can’t wear it with sandals.

The fussy sleeves/cold shoulder/overly embellished thing: these tops seem to me like the sartorial equivalent of women who are constantly apologizing. Like: girl just be yourself, who you are is good enough! It’s fine to be a v-neck, v-necks are great!

Interesting read. I like bracelet sleeves and cropped bottoms, maybe because I am short? Hate cold shoulder tops, and have from when they first came out. Hate high rises because I just can’t wear them. Agree about embellished sleeves, just too fussy. Not sure about midi lengths, I haven’t found any yet that look good on me. And I still like slightly distressed jeans, they just seem a little more interesting.

Cheap, thin, scratchy merino and cashmere, and knits that pill when you look at them. I know manufacturers do it to keep the price point artificially low, but I'm so done with it.

Also, wool suiting with no lining. Again, I'd be happy to pay a little extra for a lining, otherwise I just won't buy blazers and trousers at all.

Angie, I'm a nerd, so I looked it up. http://www.wecare4eyes.com/ave.....eights.htm

According to this, average heights in the US and Germany are similar. My guess is that Germans are taller closer to the Netherlands and Scandinavia, and shorter closer to Switzerland. So even though I'm above average height for a German woman, because most of my time in Germany has been in the North (Berlin, Braunschweig, friends from Ost Friesland), I'm around taller folk and feel more average height. That's my theory anyway. I've yet to see a map charting height for different parts of Germany.

My son is nearly 6' (or taller, if you include his hair). Right now, nearly his entire school day is spent in German as a Foreign Language classes, with kids from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria.... he feels like a giant!

Sorry for the side track.

Oh, I’m also over fussy sleeves. Enough with the ruffles and bulk and bells. I have a couple and will not buy more. Too hard to cram them into jackets and coats and i think the look is starting to look kind of dated. Gah, I seem like such a curmudgeon lately. Or maybe I’m just craving more simplicity and streamlined style since my body is feeling particularly fluffy. :-/

Like Janet, I've been shopping around too lately . Everything seems very mainstream, very repetitive and very uninspiring. Of course, that's what you get from " mall" and chain retail, but can someone not step up and advance the look somewhat? Even Aritizia is repeating the same body (whether it be pant, sweater, blouse or jacket) over and over and over again. I found a really cool and interesting brand on Instagram yesterday, and actually went to order a great-looking top , but then realized I had no idea what it would really look like ,what the quality was, or how it would even fit......so I didn't go further. I know, this has nothing to do with anything right now other than my utter frustration with fashion at the mid-price level. And so help me god , if I see anyone my age wearing those huge new Fila/ Balenciaga knock-off sneakers that are all over the stores......

I'm with Suz and Denise, (although not that into skinnies).

Are you tall by any chance, FashIntern?

I love the high waists and showcasing the waist because it adds structure to the outfit. I don't like oversized sloppy fits on my body. Bad for narrow shoulders unless I wear shoulder pads.

I LOVE the roomier jeans and trousers fits that are finally available.

The hectic tops are overkill - but I don't seem bothered by them because I can usually find what I want eventually. The hardest parts are the necklines.

The too short skirts and dresses are still problematic - but MUCH better. I AM MILKING IT. Midis FOREVER!

I'm finding structured tops actually. First time in years. I wear body con knits.

I like cropped pants because they're REALLY good for the type of footwear I like to wear. They're very practical in the Seattle rain too. I'm regular height at 5ft 6,

Bennett, I'm with you on the crop tops. This summer, if I slim down like I expect, I can see wearing one that just passes my natural waist when my arms are down, in a color that doesn't highlight the glowing whiteness of my belly every time I reach up to scratch my nose, but that's about it. From standpoints of modesty and warmth, crop tops are a pain.

I have a baffling love for showing off my size 10 (and-a-half if that size were actually produced!) feet! I want all my tops to be of a substantial fabric and length, and whoever invented the front-tuck is a genius.

Suz, I think you might like the cropped length because you have shorter legs. It's those of us who spent too many formative years in "floods" who can't see doing that intentionally.

I'm so sick of overly masculine clothes, like blazers, double breasted coats, dad sneakers, trousers... I feel like you have to dress like a man to be fashionable these days. Am fascinated with full length pleated skirts and pussybow blouses though! You can also dress like an older British Lady and still be very trendy.

I must admit I've had a problem with all of the hectic blouses and dresses. Not only do they have hectic patterns and prints, but they also have hectic designs. Like asymmetrical shoulders and sleeves. The only dress of this kind that I like is the ruched front design from Veronica Beard. Probably because the shoulders and sleeves are still normal.
https://www.veronicabeard.com/.....lue-Copper

Here's an example of my current poison eye.
https://www.veronicabeard.com/.....onze-Ivory

I still like 3/4 sleeves and high waists, skinny jeans, cropped pants etc. I suppose there is someone more adventurous than I, who would love the copper dress linked above.

Oooooh. I'm another fan of 3/4 length sleeves. I always push longer sleeves up. ALWAYS. I find it a flattering and practical length. Across seasons. I also love cropped pants, now that they figured out how to make sock booties so that a person doesn't have to freeze her ankles while wearing them. I have shorter legs but I don't care -- the cropped length has always had a place in my heart.

OTOH, I was well and truly over the fussy and cold shoulder sleeves the second they appeared.

And like many here, I have been over overly distressed denim for what feels like my entire life on YLF. I don't mind a bit of distressing, fading, etc. But holes? People, really? HOLES????

And, short skirts/ dresses. Please keep making midis. Please.

Laughed out loud at Lisa P's comment, which is totally how I feel in a typical winter in my ordinary home.
