Funny, I wore some Mary Jane type Clark's shoes today for the first time in a long time. Wore them without socks bc it's not that cold here but I ended up with a blister. I don't like the look or feel of socks with these type of shoes and I think it makes sizing different due to the sock. So next time I will try them with no show footie socks and see how they work. Good luck.

I personally don't like visible socks with any shoes which are not booties (there is an intentional look which Anna is an expert on of course but I think it is hard to get right for us mere mortals )
I use sheer knee-high socks in a color close to my skin so effect is like with the bare legs.

I agree with Rabbit. If you want a no-sock look, you could use knee-high stockings, in a nice sheer that matches your skin.

With full-length jeans, I think a sock in the same colour would disappear against the shoe. (That's how I wear mine, at any rate.) For skirts/dresses, I wear them with same-colour tights (admittedly more girly).

So much depends on the vibe you are going for. With comfortable mary janes like these, I'd expect to see them with striped wool socks in muted tones and coordinating knitwear/scarfs/hats with the natural dye/hand knitted look. Or at least that's what I see when I'm shopping around around the bulk bins at Nature's. I think when going for that kind of casual look it works fine.

Most of the time I just wear no-show socks and footies with oxfords and low vamped shoes in winter, but it can get cold going that route. Thermal tights are another option, or knee highs that serve the same function.

You can buy low socks that don't show. I own a few.

I do it. I try to wear a dark sock, but I have been known to wear white socks too. Sometimes the white socks, mary janes, and jeans can create a retro look. But I'll be interested to see what others have to say.

I own these Taos Mary Janes and I find that the elastic on the heel gives me blisters if I don't wear socks...so I'm revisiting the age-old socks and MJs question. Does wearing a casual sock (like SmartWool) with these shoes when I wear them with jeans work? Is it really just a personal preference thing?
