I unironically love radiohead's clothing, Carol!

suntiger, I do plan to make new tops -- I think I'm also going to pick up a new pattern or two. Most of my shirts are made from a pattern I bought and then extensively altered so it fits very well -- but I'm a little bored with it. So it's likely to be a bit of a project altering a new pattern.

Suz, that's part of how I noticed I wasn't feeling my current style! I found myself adding very different fabrics to my wishlists at Mood than I had been previously.

Interesting how a few of us, me included, are feeling the pull away from patterns. Your future experimentation sounds like it will be fun.

This sounds like an interesting shift, and if you sew your own tops, it is probably less expensive to experiment and see what continues to strike your fancy over time. Would love to see what you come up with!

I also find that over time my eye (and body) changes and things that were my fall back outfits or pieces fall out of favor. I think it is natural for style to evolve this way. Hope to see some of your experiments!

Some folks might remember that years ago I started a dress code experiment (my update post with links). I'm still wearing my patterned tops and jeans most of the time, and I have a great collection of patterned dressy tops that I wear usually with black or subtly-patterned dress trousers.

Lately I've been feeling the pull of some new things, though. I make about half my shirts these days and I noticed all my new ones are in darker, moodier fabrics, and I'm leaning more heavily on black and grey jeans and away from blue. I've found myself thinking about solid-colored sweaters worn over my shirts, and even occasionally thinking about wearing skirts (I haven't worn a skirt or dress in over a decade).

So I took some time to think about what I still like about my dress code (patterned button-front shirts, jeans) and what isn't making me quite so happy anymore (some of the color choices, some particular patterns and scales of patterns). If you go full-bore color analysis on me I'm probably "soft summer".

I think I'm going to bring back more grey jeans, as well as adding some cool browns into the wardrobe. I might add a skirt and see how I feel about it. I'm going to go for more low-contrasty patterns as I add new things to my wardrobe, and more smaller-scale patterns. I'm aiming somewhere in the dusty not-quite-goth nerd area, with more cool, muted colors. My favorite clothes for the past year have been in this space, so I'm looking forward to exploring it a bit!
