Ooh! Bijou, I haven’t watched this yet, it’s in my cue. I love the costumes you show here. This style details are exactly what I am looking to add into my wardrobe minus looking too theatrical.

I love 'Ethereal Composed' for you. Your change to longer hair which highlights your natural curls has softened your overall look. You have an elegant, refined strength. I am currently watching Andor (a Disney Star Wars series) and find your style consistent with Senator Mon Motha. Her costumes are stunningly beautiful, interesting, sleek and in colours consistent with your palette.

I understand why you added 'architectural' to your style descriptors and don't see a contradiction with 'sleek'; Mon Motha wears sleek architectural clothing in as much as they are complex and structured. In your style I see architectural elements in your love of the Lowe Puzzle bag and interesting tailored details.

The real benefit of a style moniker and refresh is the thought process and clarity of direction you obtain from the analysis. It is always a joy to read posts such as this one.

Sal, I owe you many thanks for coming up with my moniker. I’m curious what you’re thinking of for Janet….. :-)

Janet, the word balance resonates with me. I am definitely seeking a new balance based on past success and failures and based on changes in my life and physique as I am getting older. I feel it’s a refinement because of increased acceptance and understanding of myself as well. I would love to see how things play out for you if you rethink things also.

I have a lot to consider with these new adjectives and style moniker. My next step is going to be to build some outfits and test out what works and what does not and see how it goes….

Angie, yes, “sporty” is a good word for me. I need to consider how that aspect is reflected in my everyday style, or maybe I could find a way to incorporate more of that in my everyday style.

Yay! I can see it:). I think with a moniker it is that impetus to remember to add the shine or texture in a way that works to a basic outfit.

Janet I can think of a few words for your style and a couple of muses…..

Everyday Galadriel is fab! Cate Blanchett is a great muse :)

I like your new describing words too! Ethereal can stand on its own as an adjective, as opposed to being repeated in the moniker.

Suggestion: You are athletic, Staysfit! I wonder if Sporty should replace Assured or Luminous?

This is really interesting! I like your process here. I feel that my style is subtly shifting too, and have not tried any new word exercises around it yet, but I’ve been mulling it over too. I think you and I are the same age, so it makes sense that we find ourselves simultaneously settling into what works for us while also feeling an urge for a little more refinement and clarity. More balance. What you’re describing makes sense to me. I’d also be curious to see some visuals of what’s really working for you these days, and maybe even what you’re not feeling so much, as I think those outfits can be very helpful, as a tool for pinpointing what you don’t want moving forward.

I think “everyday Galadriel” is such a great phrase! And what wonderful style icons to be compared to. I have absolutely zero idea of any celebrities that I share any kind of style likeness with. LOL. The ones I have been told I physically resembled in the past are not ones I actually share a style with, or even a body type with.

Jenni, I initially had the same thought about jeans. I think it’s the quality of ethereal I am seeking to add. It does not need to be 100% of my outfit. For example, I can imagine wearing light colored jeans paired with a smooth knit top in a light color or luminous tone, or perhaps a lace knit which could bring in ethereal qualities. Pearl jewelry, brushed silver jewelry, opals, moonstones also seem to have ethereal qualities and maybe the right scarf would also. Add a long cardigan to the mix and or something with sheer sleeves….. interestingly, I have a small collection of tops and knit toppers with sheer sleeves….I gravitate to them. Certain fabrics have softer ethereal qualities so maybe instead of a stiff and structured blazer I would wear one made of a softer material. Shoes would most likely need to be delicate, however, I think I might need to stray with my shoes because of my recent problems with plantar fasciitis and stress fracture.

I can see varying my look depending on my mood and using more or less structure, much like we see with both Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett. Tilda’s style ventures into the avant garde. Cate is more classic. I particularly love Tildas style.

It’s probably not that surprising that our style evolves somewhat over 5-6 years, like since you had the Align assessment done. It may be that there is a softening of your features and colouring over that time which is why the lighter colours suit more after your edit.
I agree that you do look somewhat like Tilda Swinton, maybe look up some of the pics of her in dresses rather than blazers so that you get a less severe picture of her.
I like the sleek adjective for you and maybe fluid or flowing. I’m not sure about ethereal but this might be just my personal preferences where I can’t really see anyone wearing jeans as looking ethereal! It might be a feeling of being ethereal that you’re looking for. So maybe Everyday Galadriel does suit quite well

Staysfit this is very interesting and thoughtful. I would be interested to see outfits that you think best (and worst) represent this reframing, if and when you feel like it. I do see the Cate Blanchett reference especially.

@Unfrumped and Suz, I have been thinking about the adjectives "lyrical" vs "poetic". I like how "lyrical" sounds joyful, sentimental and romantic. With further thought however, it feels more emotionally expansive than ideal when I am aiming for quiet restraint. In my mind, lyrical may better fit romantic style, ruffles, round shapes and sweetness. Poetic is emotional depth with restraint, emotions are distilled to symbol, metaphor, atmosphere, design, etc. Between the two words, I can better see how Poetic may encompass features that Angie says she see's in my style, "powerfully pretty", "subtly strong", "softly bold" and even "quietly elegant". I can see mystery and stillness along with movement in the word poetic. While I can also see these things in lyrical, they become louder and more open, less subtle.

@Sal, I find it interesting that you mention Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton. When I had my Align style completed the stylist gave me celebrity examples and Tilda Swinton was on the list as are Jenna Elfman, Taylor Swift, Nicole Kidman, Cara Delevigne, Maria Sharapova, David Tennant and Jim Parsons. I would need to pull up pictures of everyone to see what we have in common.

I love "Modern Practical Galadriel"

@Angie, Thanks for your idea's. Sleek is definitely consistent with my style and should stay. As I look at the other things you list, the word assured comes to mind. Sleek is the primary outward line and visual silhouette. Assured is my primary emotional tone.

Maybe I should use "Ethereal Composed" as a style statement
Adjectives: Ethereal, Elongated, Poetic, Luminous, Sleek, Assured

Modern Practical Galadriel is an apt Moniker. It's a great short hand way to pull everything together. I am also thinking Everyday Galadriel, or maybe Urban Luminary.

I'm with others who mentioned that architectural doesn't seem to fit ethereal, poetic, luminous, or sleek. A softer element pairs much better with these adjectives. Good luck with your evolving style, it's fun to see how one's look changes over time!

Interesting. I like the direction you are going and I guess the main thing is that it speaks to you. I think the ethereal composed is perfect. I do see a bit of classic in the mix too. I like fluid in the mix to push you in the right direction.

You remind me a bit of Cate Blanchett or Tilda Swinton- they are both tall elegant and of fair complexion. And maybe it’s because Galadriel is the ultimate ethereal character. Maybe you are a modern practical
Galadriel - to pick up your sporting and professional sides? I may be way off target!!

I use my style words when shopping or when something feels off. If I lean too classic I like to tweak things to make it a bit bolder or more casual.

Since you've been on YLF, you've used the word Sleek to describe preferred silhouettes and proportions. It's honest and consistent. Go with that!

I see:

Sleek (much like Structure)

I definitely see Sleek over Architectural. Swimming physique, beautiful sheath dresses.
Or perhaps there is a synonym for sleek, or sleek- adjacent, that is better somehow.

Yes, I think this can work well for you, though I do have a few quibbles, below.

I agree you appear more ethereal than dramatic. (Especially if dramatic is conceived as high contrast, sharp lines, etc.I do think there are other ways to understand the term, yet we are probably all influenced to some degree by Kibbe's descriptions, however confusing those were, and by the typing of Angelica Huston as dramatic -- if *she's* dramatic, I can't be is the thought that goes through every woman's head...._)

Anyway, back to you --
I'm not sure you need architectural. Do you? Especially as you also have sleek? To me, your style has included structured elements (which you seem to want to adapt or modify a bit) and a strong classic element -- but I don't think of it as architectural, which to my mind calls up more avant guard shapes -- boxy and very contemporary silhouettes, Japanese influences, etc.

I definitely see ethereal, sleek, composed, and classic. But perhaps your aspirational style is more architectural?

LJP, poetic implies thoughtfulness and subtlety in materials, movement and detail. Poetic also reminds me that what I wear needs to feel right not only look a certain way physically. It adds emotion and expressiveness to the mix.

I understand and agree with the words *ethereal , luminous and sleek* . I'm not sure about *poetic* as a style descriptor, as it contradicts architectural and sleek in my imagination. You don't describe how that adjective works for you - is it in reference to colour or fabric or cut?

Recently I have been thinking more about my style adjectives and style statement. They have served me well for a long time, yet still I have felt there is something missing. When I edited my wardrobe recently, I noticed a few things: 1. The color palette was lighter. 2. The items that I retained had an ethereal quality that is not reflected in my style adjectives and I want to capture more of this in my everyday style moving forward. 3. I have purchased a lot of stiff and structured clothing which mostly goes unworn for reasons I have had a hard time identifying. It doesn't look bad on me, but somehow to my eye looks harsh or causes me to look more intimidating than I might otherwise appear.

I still favor long lines, and architectural and sleek shapes. I also like to have some sort of movement in my clothes, which I have described as the "superhero cape effect" mostly because I work with children, however, my intention is really for more subtlety. Some of you may recall that 5-6 years ago, I had a style analysis with a woman who created her own system called Align. She classified me as "Mysterious Type" which might be like a Kibbe Dramatic type of some sort, however, Kibbe never made sense to me, probably because I have more ethereal qualities than dramatic qualities. I have been learning more about essences, and can see how ethereal essence which the Align style analyst called Mysterious, suits me well. Perhaps I am a mix of dramatic and ethereal if there is such a thing, and I have mostly veered towards dramatic and struggled because I do not have dramatic coloring and some of the style lines suggested for dramatic types do not work well for me. Add Angelic or Ethereal essence and it seems to work.

My style adjectives have been: Fresh, Classic, Sleek, Practical, Light and my two word Style Statement: Genuine Composed

The adjustments I propose are as follows:
I am thinking to change my style statement to Ethereal Composed. "Ethereal" honors my style lines which should include flowing, refined and moody shapes, it introduces softness and intrigue instead of drama or starkness and it gently hints at mystery, calm and lightness, subtle complexity and quiet power. (I took these qualities from various style blogs about ethereal essence.)
"Composed" keeps things grounded, reflects my desire for structure, polish, order and coherence. It reflects intentionality, clarity and thoughtfulness. It communicates that my style is edited, considered and expressive of an inner sense of control, hopefully without being cold or distant. (From the original Style Statement book)

I am thinking of using the following style adjectives:

Ethereal, Architectural, Poetic, Luminous, Sleek

I believe many of these adjectives have been suggested to me in the past. Especially architectural and luminous. I am embracing them now as they seem to make perfect sense as a way to evolve my style in a way that feel even more in line with my personality and probably with my features.

What do you think? Do you think these are a good fit? I am hoping to test them out with my outfit selection to see how they work. In the past, some of my adjectives were not helpful with shopping or outfit selection, so I know from experience that they need some testing before formal adoption.
