OK Miss Bossy Angie I am ordering this J. Crew sweater -- I loved the old Tippi fit, not sure about the redesign -- and the inexpensive scarf that was in your top picks from today's blog posts. I never thought to CONSIDER wearing this much brown (or animal print, for that matter) near my face! But I'll give it a try.

Oooh, I see. I forgot that complements can also include clothing items, not just accessories, doh.

Donna, that's a great idea! I don't own any leopard print but I have toyed with the idea in the past.

Hmm, so maybe a leopard print scarf or belt (or even a pullover, if I can find a good one). Or a toffee-colored jacket. I do have your CM toffee trench from a few years ago, Angie, although I'm precious about it as my summer "dress coat" for events like going to the SF opera. I could use a more casual topper in that color family.

Angie, maybe I have the beginnings of a complement already... but I'm not sure what else to add. I have cognac boots, booties, and belt. And the handles of my Longchamp everyday handbag are cognac; I'm a handbag minimalist and don't want to add any more at the moment. So that leaves... scarves? I'm quite uncertain about a brown/cognac/toffee scarf, but maybe in a busy print it would work.

smittie, I think the sneakers being heavy/overwhelming is a combination of 1) fairly narrow and petite frame, although not *that* small as you pointed out, and 2) I do have *very* small feet and narrow ankles. So the feet-to-body proportions may be thrown off in particular.

Wearing the dress today with leggings feels great! I'm definitely going to try it with the moto when it gets cooler, now that I can warm up my bottom half.

Toffee booties are great, Keix. Really nice.
Ugh, if I were braver, I'd order them online, but I'm such a sucker for the in-person shopping experience and they don't have them at my local Nordies!

I agree with you about the Zip up sneakers. Nice on others. Overwhelming on you. (Which is strange isn't it? It's not like you're that small.)

The dress is great on you. Could you wear it with leggings/moto in the fall?

I saw the grey colorway in store -- it's very nice, a bit more grey than the photo, good for those who are looking for grey shoes! I learned my lesson after purchasing a pair of grey boots and *never* wearing them, though. I think my wardrobe leans too heavily on black and jewel tones to work well with a true grey shoe. If I'm wearing lighter and/or earthier colors, I tend to want blush or taupe or metallic footwear, for more warmth than grey brings.

So, let's temper that brown poison eye I do have cognac tall boots that have been in hibernation for a while, too. Maybe this winter will be the time to bring them out again.

It sounds like a unanimous keep for the dress :)

bj1111, THANK YOU for suggesting that I wear the dress over leggings or skinnies! I did just that today -- read your suggestion when I got up, cut the tags off the dress, and popped it on over a pair of cropped leggings. Now it's super comfortable and will be a lot more versatile than just a high-summer dress.

Sterling, I tried the Zella leggings on in-store when I went to return some definite no's, and didn't purchase them. You're right, it would be settling. I don't typically wear leggings as day wear, except under dresses where I prefer a less structured and even softer kind of legging (I have multiple pairs of the Aritzia TNA Equator legging, sized up). But I have worn my Athleta Powervita leggings out for errands after a skating session, and they're comfortable enough to forget that you're wearing athletic leggings, if you like high rises. I like them enough to have duplicated the classic "stash pocket" style at full price, after buying my first pair on promo. But my size does often stick around in their seasonal styles so I'll look to expand my collection that way.

Thanks Angie for showing off these booties in your initial dressing room pics It inspired me to try them despite having a mild poison eye for brown.

Thanks for chiming in Author Linda! I can always use casual items because my workplace is ultra-casual (the official dress code is "wear clothes" and showing up in heels will more likely draw comments than showing up in gym sweats). So these perforated booties will be a step up from the sneakers that everyone on my team wears.

The booties are fabulous on your foot. YAY.

I genuinely like the dress on your in the size shown.

I am worried that you are settling for the Zella Live In High Waist Leggings. If this style of "high compression" legging isn't your favorite, I recommend returning. Stalk Athleta power vita leggings on sale .... or does your size sell out before the sales?

If you don't mind, I have a question that might change my recommendation. Do you wear these leggings just to work out or do you wear them casually as day wear? I have never had leggings that were so comfortable that I wanted to wear them casually as day wear, but I have a pair of power vita being shipped to me (on deep discount). I anticipate never wanting to take them off.

So ... you can see I have no real advice or recommendations. Whatever you ultimately decide, I am certain will be the best decision for you.

Those perforated booties are perfect for California. I think that color looks great with your skin tone. LOVE. The teal dress looks fab. It does look great with the bomber but it also stands well alone. That looks like a great transitional weather dress. I could see it with both OTK and booties. Thanks for the recommendation on the bra. I am wide set and shallow as well.

I got home from work before it was dark this time and also turned on all the lights in my house, so hopefully the pictures are clearer this time!

1/2) Copycatting Angie's perforated cognac booties. Brown is an unusual color for me, but these are almost nude against my skin tone and the leather is SO soft. My plan is to wear these barefoot in the shoulder seasons that last for so long here in northern California.

3) Halogen patterned midi skirt -- I'm wearing size 2P which is a bit snug in the waist. The fabric is different than what I expected, much drapier (a knit rather than a woven). I still love this print, but I don't love the length on me in this cut, and hemming would mess with the pleat detail. So this ended up being a return.

4/5) Halogen shift dress, another item I was suckered into by the print... I'm not sure about the fit on me though? Please advise! This is the right size, smallest available (XXSP) and I wouldn't be able to go any smaller in the shoulders anyway. Looks great with my new green moto jacket, although in reality I'd be unlikely to wear them together because this thin polyester faux-silk material makes a high summer dress for me. If it's cold enough to require a lined jacket, my butt and legs would freeze in the dress!

6/7) Blondo Giselle Waterproof Sneaker. It has a small hidden wedge heel. I like the color but the overall style of the shoe is too clunky/sporty for me.

8) Sweaty Betty floral leggings from the catalog. The print is just as cool in person, but I did NOT like the fabric, which makes a strange rustling noise and doesn't feel that comfortable.

9) Zella Live In High Waist Leggings -- Angie told me to try these on, so I complied Size XS here, which fit everywhere except the top of the waistband where it dug in a little bit. I think this style of "high compression" legging isn't my favorite -- I prefer the buttery soft stretch of Athleta Powervita and Beyond Yoga -- but for the price these are a really great value.

- Frame Le High Slit Hem skinnies: not for petites, and size down. The ankle detail means that they can't really be hemmed. I ordered my usual premium denim size 26 and it felt a bit loose even in the first few minutes.

- I exchanged the Natori Flora bra for a size up (my usual size 32B) and the fit is perfection for my shallow, wide-set bust. Maybe even better than my numerous Natori Feathers bras. I plan to put it through its paces immediately, and if it wears as well as it fits, I'll be duplicating before the sale ends.
