I spent some time last night trying on dress pants from my closet, and every single one has that wrinkly thing going on the back of the leg! Even the Halogen Taylors! Sigh. Maybe there's just no avoiding it in my case.

I've decided to keep the Original Editor in navy blue pinstripe (pics 8-10) and the Wide Wasitband Editor in dove gray ticking stripe (http://www.express.com/ticking...../index.pro). The latter is a nice color for warmer weather.

I am returning the other Editors even though they fit well, because I already have similar pants (Halogens). I might try on some more Editors in the store when I make my returns...

Thanks everyone for your useful comments! I really appreciate having other eyes judge whether an item is worth keeping. And I'm constantly learning how to be a more discerning shopper!

I am of the Jonesy and Sunita schools! The Sunita school in that my pants often do that wrinkling thing in the back. The Jonesy school in that it makes me feel unfab and persnickety. So if I find a pair of pants that don't do that, I prefer them.

But that suit jacket is super cute and I like the Columnists from the front, and the wrinkles COULD be simply due to the way you are standing. So. I would say wear it around the house a bit and see how they feel.

I like the darker Editors very much.

I was just thinking about you today and wondering if you got your Editors yet! I think the gray and navy ones look fabulous on you. Too bad about the defects on the last ones - I will have to look carefully at the ones I just got, although I often end up with the waist covered up.

Someone else said that their Editors stretch, but that hasn't been my experience - at least they don't stretch so much that it bothers me. I hate when pants are falling down after you've had them on for an hour! Whether they will stretch enough to be a little more comfortable - maybe, I'm not sure! I love mine - they are just so comfortable and the length is absolutely perfect.

Sunita, I actually like them all (except for the white pair...sorry). My favorites of the lot are the Columnists in pics 1-4 and the Editors in 8-10. Sorry the ultimate double weave didn't work out. I have them in the red and they are my favorites for exactly the reasons you stated regarding the drape and feel of the material.

The wrinkles on the backs of the thighs can be due to how you are standing. It's hard to evaluate that without seeing them in person. Frankly, I wouldn't worry about that too much, unless you're willing to spend a lot more on pants and/or have them tailored.

6% elastane is quite a bit. I'd expect them to stretch with wear.

Wow, you look amazing! I love the first pair and the jacket! Really sharp. The next pair is so dark that it's hard to see the details, but they look terrific too. Those pointy heels make both of these look super-fab on you. I lost track of the details but if you are worried about pockets showing through, you can have them removed and stitched shut.

@Mo: I will measure my waist, hips, and thighs tonight and PM you details. I'm pretty hourglassy, so the loose waist & tight hips/thighs is a common fit problem for me. That's probably why the Editors look better than the Columnist.

When you say the waist is big on the Columnist - can I ask if you fall within the size chart or not? I am 26.5 waist and 36 hip whereas the chart is for 26 w / 37 h. Makes me think the wider waist may work for me? Thanks for any help!

I prefer the Editor fit on you from these pics and I'm not a fan of the lighter colors but do like the dark ones on you very much.

Jonesy: That's a good point! I'll have to re-examine the fit before I make a final decision. There's definitely more puckering with the Columnists than the Editors.

I think I'm very persnickety about pants fit...I don't care for all of the puckering and weirdness going on on the backs of your thighs with most of these. I can't tell if this is a pulling in the too-short rise issue, or what.... If this is how they look when you first put them on, I would think they would only get weirder as the day progressed :). The brown ones in the last pics seem to be the best style, in terms of overall fit, front and back view (that general style, though maybe not these exact ones, if there is a puckering problem). Just my two cents, of course!

Thanks for all the helpful comments!

@Amy: The white cotton pants do pull a bit at the front. Only 1% spandex there, so I may have to pass on that pair. Sob! The hunt continues...

The pants in #5-7 are 69% poly, 25% viscose, and 6% elastane. Is there some hope for stretch? I think Lori has some Editors and said they did loosen up, but I can't recall if hers were the Original or the Wide Waistband (61% poly, 34% viscone, and 5% elastane).

I am passing on the last pair with the wide waistband, though 2 others in the same style & size fit great.

I'm in awe of anyone who can stitch! I can manage v. minor repairs but that's all!

Have to dash, will be back later.

I'm so excited to see your review, because I've been very curious about these pants myself. Most of these pants look terrific on you.

Based on some online reviews, I understand that the cotton pants can wrinkle horribly...no surprise there...it's a natural fiber. If you're ok with that, then they look good. On second thought...I'm wondering about the pulling across the front. Are they comfortable there?

I'd cry if I had sewn pants with the puckering you show on the last pair. That's not good. I'd return those.

Do the pants in 5-7 have any stretchy content in them like elastane? If so, try wearing them around the house for a day to see if they stretch at all. If they're 100% poly, you might as well give up hope on them stretching. That stuff resists change :)

The rest look great!

My online order from Express arrived last night. This is a lengthy post because some of you also expressed (ha, ha...poor pun) interest in these pants and I thought you might like my feedback.

On the whole, I was quite pleased with the look and fit of some items, but was also frustrated by inconsistent fit...often within the same style and size!

I tried the Columnist (cut suited for straighter body types w/ slight bootcut leg) in size 6 and the Editors (for curvier types with a flare/wide leg) in size 4. I can't tell if one style suits me better than the other...so please help me decide! I posted front, side, and rear shots of pants.

Items not pictured: I tried the Columnist in Ultimate Double Weave (same style as Angie's red pants featured on April 2nd).
http://www.express.com/ultimat...../index.pro
I *loved* the drape and feel of the material, but the pants were a bit loose at the waist & tight in the thigh. The white in this style had pocket & seam show-through and VPL (eek!) I also tried them in New Gray and didn't like the color.

Also tried 2 jackets (studio stretch and signature stretch) in size 4, but both were too tight in the arms and would not button up. Very odd, since I am usually a 2 in jackets. Sleeves also a tad long. Button placement was too low for me. Big disappointment.

The pants are the Columnist; a bit loose in the waist but perfect with a belt. The cropped jacket (size 2) has cute ruched sleeves but may be too short for the pants? The material in this suit drapes very well and is thick and stretchy (62% polyester, 34% viscose, 4% elastane). Keep?

Nice material. These felt a bit snug in a hip area and I'm iffy about them. Maybe they'll stretch out a bit and eventually become more comfortable?

Same size & cut as the gray ones, but comfy and did not feel tight in the hips. Keep?

These are 99% cotton and 1% spandex and came out of the bag horribly wrinkled. Do they look too tight around the fly area to keep? I really want some lightweight white pants!

The material is a heavy, stretchy blend of 69% poly, 25% viscose, and 6% elastane. In theory, I like the girdling effect of a wide waistband, but I found the waistband on some of these pants added bulk and did not sit right; I noticed some puckering and folds (see pic 15). But I also tried these in 2 other colors (black and dove grey ticking stripe) and those fit beautifully...the waistbands lay flat and smooth.

That's it folks...thanks for reading through to the end!
