Karen13 & Thistle - thank you both!! You are incredibly sweet. Yes, I am impressed with Pendleton's quality and care in construction. So many brands are cutting corners and there is just a feeling that the company still takes pride and is invested in their products. website, tags, details, I find that impressive and it makes me want to support the brand!

Elizabeth - that is really a very beautiful coat!! I love black and blue together!! Is your coat lined? Or is it like this years buffalo plaid jacket? And yes we need many coats but I may look for a puffer when the fall coats truly arrive. That will also help alleviate winter coat boredom!!

Oh my, what a wonderful review! You're making me want this coat as well... I love coats that zipper up, they seem easier to "grab and go". Good thing my size is gone :)

The Pendleton that Janet referred to, I also have. It's lovely, although I don't find it warm enough for my winters... very much a shoulder season coat for me. Which is fine, need those too!

Suz - I think you will be impressed. Whether you like the color or cuts - the quality and honest to god old world craftsmanship is impressive.
Anna - yay for you!! I would not have the blazer or coat but for you recommending this awesome brand!! Thank you!!
Lisa - OMG you are definitely made is stronger stuff!! I’m a total weenie but truth be told I do have significant raynauds. I feel like I’m becoming a block of ice. I do need to be careful and stay snug.
Aquamarine - that’s awesome to know. I really love the coat. I’m just not sure if it will be snug enough until the maxi puffer comes out or if I’ll need a midwinter mid length puffer. But either way I am so looking forward to it!!

I am really eager to check out Pendleton in person when I'm in the west. The quality really sounds extraordinary.

Like you, I really enjoy a coat of this length. It is somehow a little easier to wear with pants, jeans, and skirts (except maybe wide skirts) and there is something quite elegant about the length. I like what you said about pockets and so on also.

Jaileen - I’m so happy to have it. Especially for the start of the season. It’s my new favorite site to browse!!
Joy - it’s super nice and very reasonable. But I totally applaud you for not buying what you really don’t need. I have done that in the past. You have such a gorgeous wardrobe and so cohesive. But if you do coat shop the brands detail/ quality/ cost are stellar!!

Suz - thank you. My Marc Andrew mark anorak is great. Some waterproof nylony outside w brown faux fur lining. But it’s 10 yo and a repeat almost identical buy. So I’ve worn the same winter coat for 20 yr. after last winter, the winter without end, I just could not look at it again. Talk about pennies on the wear!! So this was different and practical. And it’s very streamlined and elegant on. You have a fantastic coat collection. Practical but all different with gorgeous and unusual necklines and colors. It looks like the perfect capsule to me!!
Staysfit - like you I never even thought of Pendleton. But Anna mentions is frequently. That’s when I started to take a serious look. Check out their blazers too. Really nice fabrics and construction.
Janet - is it a buffalo plaid? I’m hoping they might do a b&gray colorway or black&white. Although if I was going for a color black&blue would be it.
Angie - yes that’s the thing with coats, for those of us who layer excessively, it’s relative size with the under layers. Only special coats - certain fabrics that drape well, cuts, styles can look good despite the volume change of more or less layers. So I was thrilled this works. Just hoping I’ll be warm enough. Although considering how reasonable this was, I’d consider adding a mid thigh length puffer too
La Ped- it would not surprise me if they brought it out in a color or pattern. Pendleton favors that. I was thrilled a neutral was available!!

The coat has a thermoplastic polyurethane coating - which can only be GOOD, and even better when Pendleton does it. Enjoy!

Ok....cutting to the chase....I love this coat. I have highly specific requirements in a coat: hood, zip/snaps combo, super warm, water resistant, must accommodate heavy blazer/light coat as topper/huge wool sweater (yes, I am a snow beast), double zip a plus, sleeves must run long, length car coat ideally 36" I have been watching Pendleton since Anna raved about the quality (and as we know, Anna knows quality) and I adore my Pendleton Willhem blazer for it's amazing fabric and unique construction. The Pendleton Darby had everything on my wish list - including a small zip pocket on the left sleeve and a buttoned inner pocket built into the lining on the left side. The pockets are lined in a soft fleece material. In addition to the fabric being water repellant wool, there is some kind of lining that stops wind but it is listed as completely breathable and seams and zippers are sealed and it has pendleton's classic glacier park lining (which even I, Princess neutral, think is kind of fun), and I believe that give a donation to the national parks when they sell a coat with this lining. I ordered the small and the medium, the medium arrived today. Sizing is TTS. I usually am a size 4-6, 5'3" 112 lb, 34 A, slim rectangle. Due the the layering I do, I will probably keep the medium. The arm width and arm set made the thickest layers easy to get on and off. The shoulders fit me like the model- shoulder seam slightly beyond my shoulders but not by much. The body is commodious and I had no trouble fitting my thickest layers. Without layers, the coat, although oversized, still draped gracefully due to the quality of the fabric and front seaming. The sleeves run long, and I have long arms, but that's the way I like them on winter coats so my gloves are well covered, so I would not want them hemmed, but if you prefer them shorter they might need a tweak. The double zip is very heavy duty. The length is inaccurate on the website. It's listed as 33". This is fingertip length on me (long blazer girls know this stuff). This jacket runs a good 3" longer, I would say about 36", so it's about 3-4" above my knee which is the perfect length to cover all but the most excessively long layers. It's high 90's here and almost 100% humidity so although it's impossible to tell how warm the coat will be, I was roasting, which I took as a very good sign. The cut is very graceful and flattering, high zipped funnel neck, but lays nicely open if you leave it unzipped. Hood is big, too big, but can be positioned back a bit and seems to be amenable to staying. But I almost always find hoods to big. Assessment - this is a fabulous coat for the money. So many really nice details, construction is excellent as is all finish work. If you don't plan on excessive layers take your normal size. If you do the snow beast thing, size up. If you live in a mild climate and only wear thin layers you might want to size down. But if you need a sleek, elegant, classy casual winter coat, highly recommended.

PS I was concerned Angie mentioned something about "plastic" in her description of the coat. I thought the material might have some weird treatment. No "plastic" in sight - warm soft, non itchy wool, smooth satiny lining, warm fleecy pockets. So no worries!!
ETA: The coat actually feels much heavier weight wise than it looked. In fact, I though the box was too small for a coat but was unexpected heavy when I picked it up. It doesn’t feel too heavy on, but feels substantial.

ETA 2: Just wanted to update the small came today. It definitely fits plumb in the shoulders, good arm room and plenty of room in the body to layer. I would recommend take your normal size - it's a winter coat so you need room to layer - I would not size down. OTTH being princess snow beast, with my thickest layers I had to wiggle into the arms. I don't like that, I'd rather something roomier that glides on over everything. So I did keep the medium but I would not recommend sizing up unless you plan on super heavy layers like me.
