I do have a wide toe area with a bunion on one foot, but the ankle/back of my foot is thin (and my feet are so low volume that many pumps just fall off). So it does seem that if I were to get one I would do as you did--size up for width--and so the elastic wouldn't be an issue. These shoes will be quite versatile and can dress them up and dress them down with jeans. Just want to shout out how much I love my new day heel shoes by Everlane. I just got them yesterday and decided to wear them to work today. In terms of comfort, they are a very nice, soft leather and I did size up per some of the reviews considering my feet are slightly wide. They have an elastic band on the back which some reviews liked especially for those that have a narrower foots. These will last me quite a while since I tend to wear my shoes to death. Just wanted to share. </p>
