So glad that the review was helpful.

Joy - my Petite Small vests are 29" from the top of the 2" stand collar in back to the bottom hem of the back. The front zipper length is 25.5". I've noticed that in the Questions section for each item on the J.Jill website, a company representative can supply garment measurements for different sizes....maybe this will help you decide between regular and petite. The red is muted...not quite a burgundy...and I would say that it tends to be slightly more blue-based than orange-based. The navy is a true dark navy--not purplish, but it's not so dark that it can be mistaken for black.

Janet - There is a gentle flare out of the vest shape, but I would describe it as a boxy vest, which is probably why it works well on me.

cat2 - Thanks for the info about WHBM working better for pears! I'm more of an apple/rectangle, so now I understand why I've not had good luck with many WHBM styles!

Super cute, but I don't have much luck with this brand in terms of fit. For ladies with a big bust, look for Tommy Hilfiger puffer vests at Macy's, Saks Off Fifth and TJ Maxx. I have several and love them. FYI, they don't cover your butt, but the hip length is more flattering for my shape, at least.

WHBM is my J. Jill equivalent— better for pears. They have what they call a peplum puffer that looks moto to me. Not my vibe, I am so not edgy, but just FYI.

I have to admit, JJill is one of those retailers I don’t pay much attention to, but that’s a good-looking vest. I have issues with vests being slightly long for my short torso and slightly narrow at the high hip. And many are too boxy or puffy. I wonder if this style would suit my build — I do like the idea of one that covers the backside as long as it does so fully but with room to move!

I was happy to see your review as I am seriously considering one of these vests but now do not know what size, Is a petite quite long? I am also 5’3” but hardly ever get petites. Most things are the same length on me as the model. I usually get a small or XS in most brands but sometimes get medium. I have wide shoulders (the widest part of my body) but a small bust and need a length long enough to hide my glucose meter on my stomach below my naval. I have a couple of chunky sweaters with side zippers and a vest from Nordstrom and like this style. Should I order the Petite Small. J Jill runs large and wide. I do not want extra fabric flaring out at the hip but would like to be able to zip it up. I was thinking of ordering the regular XS in the red and black check as I have masks in this pattern and a winter hat. What do you think? What shade is the red? ( Orangey or blueish).

I've been seeing this brand pop up everywhere lately & have been scared to pull the trigger due to the ominous 'customer services shall be in touch regarding duty fees on top of shipping fees' for international delivery.

That said though, they seem to do solid, thoughtful yet slightly elevated basics. Do they last long? If so, enjoy them for us, US & Canadian fabbers! Lol

Thanks for your comprehensive review. Puffy vests are a winter essential for me, and the J Jill version is new to me. I agree that less puffy is more comfortable for indoors. Nice to have a new version for consideration.

Here's a product that has become such a winter essential for me that I've purchased it for three years in a row: J.Jill's Side-Zip Down Puffer Vest. What sets this vest apart are three features that make it more comfortable for sitting/more comfortable for those with apple tendencies, while also being dressier than other puffer vests. Specifically, the vest has a two-way zipper; it has side vents that you can zip/unzip; and, it's thinner/less poufy than the typical puffer vest. It's also an incredibly versatile length; it's not too long to wear with jeans, but it's long enough to cover the rear end for those who want to wear it with leggings.

I've worn these to the office on most casual Fridays, over turtlenecks and straight-leg jeans; I wear a black one over a knee-length black knit floral dress with Aquatalia moto boots; I wear them underneath lightweight wool-blend winter coats, as an extra layer when at an outdoor mall in winter; and this winter I'm layering them over jewel-neck long-sleeve tees and lightweight turtlenecks with jeans in my chilly basement work-from-home setup, so it's practically a uniform for me right now. I have a super-puffy down vest from L.L. Bean that I use to watch kid soccer games and other outdoor excursions; the J.Jill vest feels like it's in a different category and for me serves the purpose of a cardigan. I often wear these with coordinating scarves.

After three years I have a great collection: Black, red, light pink, navy, and a red/black check. I duplicated the red, since they don't carry that color every year, and it's a slightly washed-out red that I think is flattering on a variety of skin tones. J. Jill sometimes alters the side-opening feature (last year it was a snap-tab on each side) and the quilting pattern. The pockets are lined with a warm, soft-to-the-touch fabric.
Sizing is generous. I am consistently an 8P, though half the time I go up to MP in knit tops so they aren't clingy, and I always buy a Petite Small in this vest. There is extra room in the bust, but I don't think it looks too bad because the quilt/puff lines hide some of the extra space, and I can't go any smaller because of my broad shoulders and because it would then pull tight over my hips. I'm 5'3".

J. Jill has great on-again, off-again sales this time of year (earlier this week there was a random 50% off sale), so if you're looking to pick up a great winter vest, this might be something to consider stalking. I also have some of their waffle-weave tunics from past years that I've paired with the vest.

Thanks for reading!
