Thanks for posting such a detailed review. I understand your problem with dresses. I'm only a half inch shorter than you and I often find dresses are too long between shoulder and bust, revealing way too much or just looking loose. I've had one dress and a top taken up with mixed success. The dress had thin (bra width straps) and they just needed to be shortened; that turned out well. I had a pretty silk tank blouse taken up and it was never quite right as it made the arm holes a bit snug.

Good luck in your hunt!

I hear you on the frustrations with finding a good fit on dresses and tops, Christianne. I'm looking at separates too.

I'll see the bride and groom tomorrow, so I hope to get wedding attire details from them. So far, all I know is the date (late July) and the venue (beloved locally-owned restaurant with great water and mountain views; out on the deck, weather permitting.).

I hear you on the dress. I tried it on as well and wasn't even thinking of taking pics of that moment. I think I am low breasted and short waisted - and the waist of this dress just sat right on my apple tummy spot. Not good.
If they made a petite it might be perfect as I loved the arms, the material and the quality.
As for now, I will stick with separates as it's easier to fit and flatter.

I think it is frustrating that the assumption in marketplace seems to be all women with large chest (I'm a 40-42G so I hear you on not needing to emphasize the bust line more than it does on it's own) are also long waisted, really tall and large armed.

Great details on the review - I hope this dress works for others. Will you have any details on what wedding party is wearing ahead of time? Sounds like a wonderful thing to be doing

Trust me, in person this dress manages to be both too revealing and too frumpy on me. In addition to cleavage, the top and center of every bra I own shows, and demi-bras and deep plunge bras are a no-go for me, as they either aren't supportive enough for my DDs or they further emphasize my already ample cleavage.

Other than the cleavage, I look shapeless in the dress, though I can totally see how fab it would look on women who have hips. Because I cannot wear a high heel and have a straight-sided figure, it's harder for me to avoid frumpiness in dresses and skirts. My clothes have to do a lot of the work to create curves. I do like a waist-surrendering look sometimes, but not in this kind of dress. I can't find it in a petite plus size, so I'm going to return it and move on. Luckily, I live very close to Nordstrom, so returning will be easy, and I can plan to try other stuff on while I'm there.

The couple whose wedding I'll be officiating will be at a party I'm attending this weekend, and I plan to get some more info from them about what they and their wedding party will be wearing so I can be sure the outfit I choose is appropriate in level of formality and color. If the groom and wedding party are wearing light colors, I might choose a dress in beige or silver gray instead of black or navy. At my sister's August outdoor wedding, the officiant wore beige (not soul-sucking on her!) and she blended in well with the tan summer-weight suits the groom and best man wore.

Sad sigh. So frustrating about the fit when you love it otherwise.

DO they have a petite version? I would try it, especially if you see there's any hem allowance on the one you have now. You could have the hem lowered (if that's possible) and that would be an easier alteration than the shoulder adjustment on this one.

The pictures look gorgeous but you know whether it's working for you or not. I am sure the perfect dress will turn up. Tailoring is not a bad idea if you think tweaking the dress to the point of perfection.

Well, it looks pretty darn fab in the pics, but I do know what you mean about the cleavage, so if that's a deal-breaker, then onto the next potential winning dress!

It looks lovely in the photos, but photos can be deceptive and if you are not comfortable then back it goes.

Chrizzle, you have also given me an aha moment. I have for the last three years been doing the waist length test and appear to be short waisted but I am actually more low breasted *lightbulb* which gives a false reading.

That's a bummer. In print it does seem like the sort of thing that would be perfect for you for that occasion. Too bad reality didn't come through. Interesting insights into your proportions. It's amazing how many different variables of fit there are.

Sadly, I think this one will have to go back to Nordstrom. It's a gorgeous, well-made dress, but it doesn't do enough for me. I was hoping to wear it to officiate at a wedding, so I wasn't going for sexy, but I was still hoping for understated figure flattery. But the dress simultaneously emphasized my lack of a waist and revealed way too much cleavage.

That's not the fault of the dress. I bet it's modest on most people. On me, pretty much any neckline that isn't completely covered to the collarbone reveals cleavage. Even when I was much slimmer and not so busty, tops that were modest on other people were too revealing on me. My theory about this is that my breasts are set higher on my rib cage, are closer together, and are fleshier on top than others of comparable size, thus making every neckline seem lower cut than it actually is.

Even though I'm 5'7" ( cm) I have found that petite dresses and tops, while usually too short at the hemline, are otherwise proportioned right for me in terms of where the bustline and waistline fall. In fact, when I pulled up on the shoulder seam of the dress and folded it a couple inches at the shoulder, not only did the cleavage problem mostly go away, but the dress was much more flattering to my waist and hips. The hem was right on the knee, so not too short. If there's a petite version of the dress in my size, it might fit me perfectly.

I could keep the dress and have a tailor take up the shoulder seam so that the bust, waist, and hips fall where they're supposed to. But I think I'll just keep looking, or wear something I already have.

I'd still highly recommend the dress to others who have a more typically feminine waist-to-hip ratio, and who don't have the same high cleavage that I do. Angie's right that it would be a wonderful, versatile dress that would flatter many plus-size women.

Other notes: I was relieved to find that these low-heeled patent pumps are still very comfortable, even though my foot and ankle problems have become significantly worse in the 2 years since I last wore them. Might have to see if the brand (Nickels Soft) is still around and if they have any new styles/colors with a similar sole and heel height. Also, my black micro-fishnet hose are much sheerer than they look in the pics. Pics make them look like opaque tights.
