I'm there with you. I honestly return about 90% of the things I buy, even the things I buy in the store rather than online. My husband is definitely NOT fond of the practice. And like Marley, I experience that same delicious feeling of freedom after I return something. I'm glad it's not just me!

I feel your pain. Seems there has been a constant stream of Zappos and Nordstrom boxes going in and out of my house for months. I wonder what the UPS guy and the people down at the UPS store think of me sometimes! However, in the past I would keep something that I knew was not perfect for me just to keep from having to deal with the return. No more.

Ha, Marley - My returns are the same - having hundreds (if not thousands) of miles on them before I actually take them in to be returned

I feel worse returning in-person purchases from Nordstroms because those are the ones someone actually made commission from. At other stores, the returns only reduce someone's sales totals, but not directly their paycheck (right? or do I have to feel more guilt there too?)

I return a lot of things too. BUT before they are returned, they ride around in a shopping bag in the back seat of my car for several weeks. I HATE returning things - I always feel a little ashamed about it - sort of worried that I'm going to be scolded by the SA - or like someone else said, "black listed!" The thing is, once I return the items, I feel just so FREE - like a huge burden has been lifted from my shoulders - not sure what that is about!

It's inevitable if you purchase online extensively. I think Zappos is used to it. That's why they never go on sale!

Im SO glad Im not alone in this! I usually buy a few things, try them-they dont work out..then, knowing Im returning some items, I buy more! and more! they dont work either, so I repeat the pattern once again...I buy mostly online, which is the reason most things are returned. I hate t guess how much Ive lost in return shipping costs....Ive gotten really good about not bringing things home from the store without loving them, but I GOTTA break this bad habit! DH almost faints when he sees the credit card bill...recovers 'slightly' when I tell him most is being returned....sure wish some places were quicker to credit your account...

I am a newbie (just posted my intro...) but wanted to chime in on this thread. I am SO glad to see that I'm not the only "serial returner" here. Part of why I shop so much at Nordstrom is their excellent return policy. I just returned 8 items last week (all unworn, of course, but up to 3 months old) and am so glad I did it. I think that it can be really hard to know whether or not something will work just based upon a fitting room impression (even harder with online orders).

I started to make a policy for myself re: shopping (since I still do too much of it). If I haven't worn something within a month, I will return it. A few items have escaped that window, but I've found that it's generally a good policy. We should want to wear what we buy RIGHT AWAY. If we don't, it probably wasn't a good purchase. Buying sale items at the end of a season for next year is usually not a good thing to do. I have rarely been happy with those items by the time the next year rolls around!

It's better to return lots of things than to have a bunch of unworn clothing with tags on them (or things worn just once or twice) in our closets. Nordie's hasn't banned me yet, and hopefully they never will!

Returning is definitely a pain, but I think I prefer it to the pain of passing something up only to be left pining for it later. That said, I know I prefer to try things on before buying online, if only because I hate going to the post office.

I'm on a semi-shopping ban right now because I'm so darn tired of returning things. I'm afraid that Nordstrom is going to start sending me mean messages saying that I'm not allowed to buy anything anymore because I return 80-90% of what I order.

Oh my yes! I'm expecting to get blacklisted from Zappos any day now.

I was thinking just recently how tired I am of shopping, because it seem like almost nothing is working out (save some handbag purchases, and even those still have tags on).

I'm desperate to sort out my shoe (ankle boot) situation...but I have had no luck yet with fit...it's hard to even work up enthusiasm, tho I do consider this a somewhat urgent need.

I know how you feel. I'm like that with Zappos. So sometimes I just make myself take a break from trying things (unless I'm in a hurry to get something). IE: Wait till everything is decided on/returned before I buy something else. It can get overwhelming for ME, not to mention frustrating for the stores.
