Laura with some of the content I've seen lately, that wouldn't shock me either lol

Yes, the 10 inch "mid" rise is high on me too. Pictures are better than descriptions but models are so much taller than me that it takes quite a lot of imagination too.

Janet, I'm nodding along. When skinnies first re-surfaced, they were wider than slim straights are right now. It's laughable ;)

LOL. So true about the distinction between skinnies, slim straights and straights, too! They seem to imply that all people have similarly slim legs. As someone with larger thighs who finds that straights almost always fit as skinnies, I’m really glad to leave the skinny trend behind.

karen23, good you're staying cool and breezy in a dress! Forget about fussing with pant rises ;)

Suz, thanks! Yes, the confusion between skinnies, slim straights, and straights is similar. I'm with you in hoping that wide legs and higher rises stick around to some extent. I love the VARIETY of bottoms silhouettes best. (Like you - no more low rises. 10 inches and up!)

Kate, the pics help to some extent, don't they.

When shopping online, in the absence of actual numerical rise info, look at the zipper.

That’s the easiest way to see whether a garment is actually high rise, or low rise, regardless of what the description says.

If it’s neither of those, we’re in mid-rise territory.

Those. new jeans are so much fun! But how frustrating for all of us that rises are inaccurately labeled. We saw something similar in the move from or between "skinny" to slim straight to straight -- sometimes what was described as one was in reality the other....

I will be sad if higher rises and wide legs entirely disappear. But I also enjoy a mid-rise cigarette silhouette and will happily transition to that when the time comes. Just no ultra low rises, thank you very much, or ultra skinnies. :)

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Janet. I've been looking online and the descriptions don't seem to agree with the picture. "High rise" a couple of inches below the model's navel, "mid rise" almost up to the navel, it does not make sense to me. I don't think I would want to go around showing my navel but it really does give a point of reference here.

So I have not ordered anything.

It is beastly hot here, and I am wearing a loose-fitting cotton dress. Stay cool.

bonnie, the plot thickens! Just measured the front rise, and it's 10 inches , so mid-rise on me. 10.5 to 11.5 is high rise on me. More inaccurate info (not 12 inches like the description) :(

Sharan and Aurora, I know, right? So true!

Lisa, it's annoying when they don't give us garment measurements! More so when they're inaccurate - see my comment to bonnie.

I see a lot of returning in my future when online shopping if the descriptions are going to be so off for rises. One of my pet peeves is when retailers don’t even mention what the rise (or inseam length) is to begin with. Now they aren’t even useful when they do include them. Oi vey!

The title of the stripe jeans says High Rise Wide Leg jeans, the product description says that they are 12" rise and that seems to me like a mid rise, and the photo definitely shows low rise pants. It is very confusing! They are really fun jeans and I'm looking forward to seeing how you style them.

And it's not just one or two brands that are doing this - it's many of them! I

I've been futzing around all spring and summer trying to find just the right pair of black linen pants and have had to return THREE orders because they were misidentified as mid rise or even low rise when they were decidedly NOT. I don't have time for this stuff.

The other current mislabelling thing that's driving me nuts is not mentioning pleats when they are there.....and it's really hard to tell on a picture of a black pant. You'd think with the consumers' reliance on on-line shopping that companies would have upped their game. Or maybe that's exactly why they haven't- because they don't need to.

Interestingly, DD and her friends are done with high rise ... It's got to be below to belly for sure, although they haven't gone full low rise (yet??!)

I wonder if part of the inaccurate naming is to pander to the shifting preference while not shocking buyers with a dramatic visual change? (Similar to how women's sizing is more marketing than information half the time?)

I for one am glad things are changing because with a short waist, high rises are not my friend ... The higher rises that I have I will style with untucked tops to 'lower' them.

Also, I get frustrated when stock photos show all views of a pants waistband covered up by the top the model is wearing. These don’t, at least. And similarly, tops are often shown tucked or scrunched at the waist, not showing ghd length or fit at the bottom of it.

Well I’m glad “mid-rise” is back. The phrase itself is useless to me, as you illustrate Angie. I know I like about a 10-inch rise, so I really appreciate when retailers note rises by inches, not phrases.

Dead right, Janet! At least the pics showed the correct rises despite the meaningless descriptions....

Fun trousers!

That’s so funny — and yet frustrating. It means that when shopping online, filtering results by how the rise is labeled is really meaningless. We are left to dig deeper into each product’s specs to see if the actual rise is listed. Such a tedious thing!

Both of these bottoms are new in my wardrobe.

Both bought in stores and not online.

The stripes are a complete wildcard, and worn twice this week! LOVE! The red was on my shopping list, and needs a hack so I can wear them with flats. Love them too!

1. The gold and cream stripes pants are described as "high rise". They are NOT. They are mid rise, on me and look mid rise in person. They are low rise on the model, (who has a very long rise so that makes sense).

2. The red pants are described as "low-rise" and "low-slung" by Anthropolgie and Neiman Marcus. They are NOT. They are high rise on the model, and on me - and I don't see low slung. They are also the colour of the stock photo of the Nordstrom Find, who does not describe their rise.

Also, after shopping all week in stores with clients - mid rises are definitely coming through, and are more available. Along with lots of boho everything, blues + whites, earth tones, sets (co-ords), oversized knits, and cropped fitted tops.

The rise dilemma continues!
