What a great outfit, as always, Brooklyn. Confession: I didn’t realize you lived in Australia, thought you lived in Brooklyn (lol at myself). Sounds like a pretty safe environment, and glad you were able to get out!

Slim cat and Synne, thanks. I do go a bit matchy matchy with jewellery, buttons and bag hardware sometimes. Unfortunately that makes it hard to be a wardrobe minimalist!

Rachy and Joy, I felt able to look at things and I was able to try things on. I find it surprising that items would have to be sanitized between try ons. They don’t seem to be doing that here. I was careful to use the hand sanitizer on entering each store and I tried not to touch items just for the sake of it (I usually enjoy the tactile sensation of feeling clothing items).

Anne, WA is doing so well! People are gradually returning to the office here too. But they are encouraging staggered start times to ease the squeeze on transport. It’s going to be an issue.

Classically Casual, it’s certainly makes one value the small joys in life, doesn’t it? I’m looking forward to a trip to the beautician. My eyebrows need work!

Bijou, those boots are awesome! I got a jumper from Cue - so it’s fine for casual wear. I do think they will be feeling the pinch because they are very work wear focused. I wonder if they will “pivot” now.

RC, I really feel for all the businesses that are affected. We’ve found here that even general medical practices are struggling because people are putting off regular check ups. Hopefully that will improve as people regain confidence about going out.

You look marvelous! Love the coordinating mask. Isn't it interesting that in a place where the infection rate is so low, so many precautions are being taken and places where the pandemic is still very active things are opening up without rhyme or reason? I will say no more.

Thanks everyone!

Vix, yes. I was thinking on the whole shopping experience last night and, although it was different, overall I felt reassured that people weren’t acting like it is back to business as usual. Everybody has to play their part in keeping on top of this. And great to hear from you!

JAileen, my camisoles have holes from wear in them! I’m giving my husband a run for his money - he wears his clothes until they are literally in tatters.

Anchie, we are in phase 2 of a 3 step opening process. No gyms or cinemas yet. And I suspect no crowd events for a long time.

Lisa, thank you. I’m feeling increasingly comfortable with DYOT. Nothing trendy came home with me, although I am stocking up on the earthy colours that are big at retail now.

CG, I hope you are OK, I know things are bad there. Good to hear from you.

Suz, we do still have the occasional community transmission case (although most cases are returned travellers) but our tracing and isolating measures are good. I think we will get used to the new normal for shopping. The supermarket thing seems entirely normal to me now. Although I still experience a pleasant surprise when I see TP on the shelves! I’m glad to hear your province is doing well.

KG, thanks! You know I like my florals ...

Sally and Nemosmom, thanks! I’m focused on buying essentials. I stuck with that ... mostly. There was one somewhat non-essential purchase. I will fess up later.

Angie, thanks. It will be great to hear the retail experience from an insider perspective.

Man, I’m so envious of everything in this post — especially the numbers.

Very heartening to hear the consolidated efforts of government leaders, businesses, and citizens is paying off. Good to see harm reduction strategies in action, too.

You look wonderful and I so appreciate seeing non-utilitarian clothes again!

Very glam as usual. I like your mask.
Shops here are open since Easter, we have low double digits daily cases ever since. And almost everything else is now open again - schools, hairdressers, restaurants, hotels, cinemas, gyms and pools. But I personally haven’t been shopping yet. I rarely shopped in person before, and will probably even less now - sounds too stressful. I also got used to shopping for groceries online and will probably continue to do it, especially now that you don’t have to wait 2 weeks for delivery window anymore.

Brooklyn, thank you for this report. You look wonderful -- love your coordinated mask/ bag/ ring! (The bag is gorgeous, by the way). And YAY, OZ!!!!!! So wonderful how well you have done in this. It's fantastic to know you have no community transmission.

We are doing exceptionally well in my province also and especially in my personal corner of the province -- almost no cases. But shopping still feels weird. I went into a few (non clothing) stores the other day. Sanitizer/ gloves at entrance. Plexiglass shields. Masks not mandated in those stores (but they are mandated in some) and I wore my mask anyway while inside. Lines to mark distance. Warnings. 4 people in the store at one time -- that kind of thing.

It's not exactly a relaxing environment. Maybe we will get used to it, though. I think some parts we could accustom ourselves to and adapt to, but other aspects just make it less fun, period.

Some similarities here too from my shopping trip on Thurs. The uniqlo temperature check, and I ordered a cue dress in the myer sale. Our state in Australia is doing very well, with no community transmission and is relaxing most restrictions. I started back at the office on Friday, totally my choice and most are still away, but I was getting tired of connectivity problems.

I envy you your ability to shop. Unless you can order online and do curb pick up or go to a place that sells “essentials” you are still pretty out of luck doing any actual shopping here. I was able to go to a favorite local consignment store as I needed little bags in spring/ summer colors for daily wear. There were lots of new rules. If you tried anything on, it was put in a special spot to be steamed and sanitized before it was returned to the racks. Hand sanitizer everywhere. Bars and restaurants are not opened yet unless they have lots of outdoor seating. Streets are being closed off to cars to allow this.

Thanks Janet. 1200 new cases in one day is sobering. Our whole country (25 million) has been in single digit case numbers or pretty close to that for weeks now. I think we only have a couple of people still in hospital in the whole country.

The shopping experience did feel surreal. I think they have to keep reminding people the virus is still out there and to exercise some caution. I’ve noticed that some people close the gap when you are talking to them now - just forgetting of course. Once reminded about distancing they step back. I think we need a hand signal or something!

Liesbeth, the sales started with lockdown (most stores weren’t required to close) and seem to have continued since. Half yearly sales are a thing of the past here. To be fair, sales were pretty regular here even before lockdown. Things are tough in retail.

Thanks Star!

Thanks ST! I think some of the changes, eg the plexiglass at cash registers, could be permanent, don’t you? We’ve been having a good flu season so far, and it’s thought that some of the changes might be helping with that. So that would be a reason to keep them.

Great outfit — I love the jacket and bag! Here in the States, especially the mid-Atlantic, I have zero desire to go out into any place for shopping that’s not essential (grocery store or pharmacy, maybe a hardware store). We had 1200 new cases in our small state yesterday, all while restaurants were starting to reopen for table service (mostly outdoor seating but I’m still taking a pass). What you describe sounds sensible but sure doesn’t create a relaxing environment for pleasure shopping! Glad you got some things though.
