Thanks for all the lovely comments
Becky - I should be able to get someone local to trim.
Fruitful - the funny thing is at this point I can't imagine needing skivvies as the weather is still so mild. I always find it hard to believe that it is going to get colder! I do wear them a lot as our house is unheated and pretty cold in winter.
Deborah - yes the sweater is blue. Not quite navy, but on the dark end of blue. I bought it in the last few minutes of shopping, I think because I was so relieved to find something in a colour I liked! I am actually wearing it with leggings in the picture, but will try with a skinnies and with a skirt, as you suggested. And with a scarf
I didn't see the tops and skirts at Katies - maybe this shop didn't stock them or had sold out.
Suz and Claire - I think the hairdresser might have shaved a bit at the back.

Beth Ann - thanks for the styling suggestions. Daggy means uncool or unfashionable. A lot of the sweaters reminded me of the sort of thing worn by women in their sixties or seventies who show little interest in fashion and may have owned that sweater for 20 years. (this is partly generational. My mum could never relate to the 40s and 50s styles I liked - she saw this as being what HER mother wore!)

Glorious hair! So swingy and fresh! I love the tunic and can see you wearing it with a long pendant necklace or a cuff bracelet. The boots are terrific!

You scored on all counts today! BTW -- can you provide some synonyms for "daggy." Deborah used that word today, too!

Your hair is lovely, Anne! And I echo Claire's comments; I have a similar hairline to hers in the back and my hairdresser has to get quite creative.

LOVE the boots and I think you will, too. The fastenings and the colour remind me of the ones I got this year on consignment. I found the buckles so useful; I could loosen the boot for tucking jeans and tighten it for wearing with skirts.

The sweater looks terrific, too, and I like the styling suggestions you've received.

It is unfortunate about the colour selection. Some seasons are so difficult that way.

Hi Anne, great shopping!

Love the boots and how amazing you arrived on the day Myer had a sale:)

The sweater/tunic is gorgeous. Is it a blue? I like the neckline and the fit is lovely on you. I think how you are wearing with slim jeans and boots looks perfect. You could add a scarf if you wanted. You could potentially wear it over a knee length fitted skirt with opaque hose and boots. And of course over a substantial legging. I think it's too short to be worn as a dress?

Now to your hair.. it looks sensational. I am a bit partial to a good bob! It really suits you and I think it will definitely increase your style quotient (did I spell that right?).
Did they have to use the electric razor on the back of your neck? Just referencing Claire's comment as that's what they do for me when I go that short at the back.

My Katies had one of the B44 look alike dresses yesterday in a medium. The Manager told me they only had one delivery (batch) of those dresses and they sold quickly. What Katies do have is a lovely greeny blue striped midi skirt and matching long sleeve top with the B44 diagnal thing that can be worn together creating a similar look. Quite striking and the colors would be lovely on you. And you can wear them separately of course.

Anyway you have made a great start to getting the things you need for the colder weather.

xxx

I LOVE your hair, the dress/tunic looks fantastic on uyou, and the boots are far away from your face so you can wear the warm colour! No skivvies? That trickle-in stocking method...I swear, they want us stalking the shops all the time.

Those boots are fabulous and I'm sure you'll get lots of wear from them. Your hair is terrific. Will you be able to get someone local to do it when it's time for a trim? I, too, have a hard time shopping when warmer colors are the trend. Looks like you found a good one with the sweater/tunic, though.

I forgot to say above that I looked for but didn't see the B44 lookalike dress in Katies. I did try on a skirt in target that had a similar style but it was so tight I could almost feel the elastic snapping as I put it on! (only available in one size)

I love the boots! I have a similar pair and wore them a ton this winter (it's getting too warm for boots now). The sweater looks great although I'm not much help in the styling department. Others on the forum are much better at that.

Well it sounds like you had a pretty successful trip; I know you've been planning it for a while. What a great deal you got on the boots! I love your sweater dress and your haircut is BEYOND fab! Your hair is so soft and pretty and I know this sounds weird, but I envy your hairline in back. My neck is long and my hair grows halfway down it, so it is never possible to get the back cut up high like yours. I love the rounded shape it creates and I know it will have a positive effect on your style!

So sorry to hear that the fall colors were not up your alley. They aren't good for me either, and I wonder if that's what we'll see when our fall rolls around. Too bad about the jackets too. I'm sure warmer things will come out as the season progresses. Can you explain what a skivvy or poloneck is? I always get confused on these. I'm thinking a short sleeved pullover shirt with a rib knit collar, but I have a feeling it's something else.

So I have had my shopping trip to the city!

The upside!
-I arrived on a day when Myer had a one day sale (I didn't know this) and managed to get boots 30% off http://www.sandler.com.au/BootsAW12/Jasper (pics 1-2)
- and a sweater (that may actually be more of a tunic or dress) for $40 off - all with my vouchers. (pic 3)
-got a new dressing gown from target with a one day special (not shown)
- new bootcut jeans from target on sale (actually bought them when I got home) (not shown as not hemmed yet)
-got my haircut at a walk in/no appt needed hairdresser who I think actually did a pretty good job. (pic 4)

The downside
- The colour scheme. As Lyn Dodd warned me, there was heaps of tan and rust - NOT colours for my olive complexion.
- I didn't like most of the sweaters around. I guess it is just my eye not adjusting, but they look very daggy to me!
- Very few skivvies/ polonecks (probably too early in the season)
- Of the very few jackets I liked the look of, none fit. If it fit right around the shoulders, it was boxy in the torso, fitted in the torso - too tight around the back and shoulders. Plus my (lack of) bust means most were not filled out in that area.

General comments welcome - in particular styling suggestions for the sweater.
