I'm in too. I'll need all the support I can get since I've been a glutton fool the month of December with no exercise either which means lots of catching up. I'm currently training for a half marathon in early March but so behind. I'll need you all to hold me accountable.

I found a FABULOUS yoga studio and am in a very happy place with my practices. Challenged, meaningful, and extremely healthy. I'm throwing in a bit of spinning, which I enjoyed sooo much many years ago. I have rekindled the love for it - but am in no way obsessed. I love my vinyasa classes much more.

I took a break from exercise starting around mid December because I got busy. I’ve only been to the gym once in the last 3 weeks. I’m also not getting much exercise because it’s been too cold to do anything outside.

I continue to eat healthy with supplemental cookies, chocolate and cheese.

I’ll resume my twice-weekly high intensity interval training (rowing/jogging/weights) in the new year.

One nice thing about the HIIT is that my stomach stays flatter, even after a meal.

GF, thanks for planning to start the HH thread up again, and sorry to hear about the issues you have been facing. Like Ms Mary, I want to encourage and congratulate all of you who are keeping going when you are facing challenges.

For myself, my immediate challenge is to not lose momentum over my summer break. I'm taking over 3 weeks off, which also means no gym access, as my gym is at work. I'm trying to keep up with 3 runs a week, and hopefully add in pilates (from online) and some bike rides.

I've been pretty happy with my exercise of late, with highlights being

Getting a PB for 10km. I'm now very close to a goal in this, and plan to keep racing 10 every 2 or 3 weeks until I read it.

being able to join in, and keep up with, some classes at my gym that I found too demanding a few years ago

completing a pseudo triathlon last week with my gym in the morning of our last day at work before Christmas (11km run outdoors, 20km on gear 10 on the spin bikes, 5km on the rower. I was the last to finish, but the only girl out of the 5 who participated!)

Food wise, not so good, as I seem to have lost most self control in the last few months. Like Mary I need to recalibrate, though I don't think I could manage a whole30 (have investigated it many times)

Danusia, way to go! Hugs to those of you with challenges!

I joined a new gym a month or so ago and really want to commit to twice a week there in the coming year, in addition to my twice-weekly personal trainer. I'm also looking into weekly tap dancing classes, which I did for years and loved but haven't done for a long time now. And maybe I can get DH to take a nightly walk around the neighborhood.

And I definitely need to recalibrate my diet. We are doing a Whole 30 starting January 2 and after that I may just stay on it all year if I can.

Gradfashionista,

I too have had to severely reduce my activity and recalibrate my definition of exercise. After a decade as a competitive athlete, I finally had to give up after the injuries became too numerous and severe to work around any longer. I’m currently rehabbing a fractured L5 and a busted rotator cuff. So for me, even getting to a mild dance class 2 times a week and walking an hour each day is a little iffy. I’ll definitely take part in your healthy habits threads.

I hope your issues improve in the new year. Do you feel like your body is rebelling against you? I feel like that sometimes. I found it helps to engage in a new activity that’s completely different for me. Please keep us updated.

Hugs!

2017 has been a year of highs and lows. I hit some peaks in fitness and strength (when adjusted for age) but have had more medical investigations and consultations than I care for - related to a newly diagnosed autoimmune condition and sequelea. There are still a few issues to sort out health-wise, and 3 more months in the labour market to get through.

Goals for 2018 (and ongoing) are to continue with weight training to keep up muscle mass for aesthetics (tone) and strength, add more yoga for flexibility and mental wellbeing, combined with cardio (swimming, biking, a little running) because it's fun (for me anyway!).

I have been working out with a personal trainer faithfully for the past 7 months. I am so amazed at my progress at this point. I can do a 60 lb lat pull down, 12 lb bicep curls, etc. things I have never been able to do before. At first I did not like the rowing machine and yesterday was able to complete 3 sets on the rower for 750 meters for each set without breaking much of a sweat. I love the muscle definition I see in my body now and have more energy than I have had in a long time. I just signed up for a full year of training in 2018 and look forward to the challenges and what else I can accomplish.

I’ve been negligent about posting the weekly Healthy Habits due to some issues (including fatigue) that caused me to severely reduce activity, and recalibrate by definition of exercise.

Nevertheless, I’d like to restart the thread in the New Year and to encourage one and all to check in with your weekly healthy habits, however big or small. For some, that might mean 3-5 workouts a week, but for others, simply going outside for a 10min walk might be a physically or emotionally daunting task. Any positive step taken is one worth sharing here. Happy holidays.
