Oh my, that was wonderful Nancy. Not much time to comment, but I loved reading and looking at all the pictures. You were *made* to wear skinnies and boots. And a striped top with a red scarf. And maybe a beret. Okay, that might be taking it too far, but you get the idea. Love your smile, your style and your thoughtful insights. I keep meaning to write a post but there are too many good ones to read and comment on first.....oh well. Soon!

Oh my. I love so many of these photos Mochi.
All time favs are 6,10,14,20 & 23 with the winner being 13!
You look so Euro chic/pirate I love it.
I'd love to see your hair in a bob - I think it would add a real sharpness to your look (in a good way).

I definitely need to come shopping with you two. If I don't walk away with a bag, at least I will find a coat or some cool shoes. And Zap, i like your bag philosophy.

Thanks! I was also just perusing MJ bags online, Zap. Was about to tell you not to go on a quest, because I'm really not sure about the rings anymore...but I do think the flaps in that first bag in your link were there--it looks to be one of his signatures. But there were definitely more than two flaps, and it was definitely ivory or cream. Oh well.

Hahahahahaha....yeah, I'm sure you would--but it was me who caused you to buy that coat!

And I wish I had evolved into not so cheapskate self by the time I spotted that bag!

It was white or more likely cream, and had multiple flap pockets on one (or maybe both) sides. The pockets each had a silver ring in them. It was a pretty mod, structured, geometric bag. Dummy me, I should have just asked which model it was. D'oh! It was priced at around $600 in pristine condition. Probably not that much of a deal (this was Second Time Around again--they are not giving stuff away), but it was a beauty and I'm still a bit haunted by it.

Here is my theory with bags... You only need a very few number of VERY GOOD bags.
Please describe the Marc Jacobs. I have a catalogue in my head.

Thanks, Zap, for the inspiration pic. Maybe it will tempt me in a moment of "weakness." I love longer hair in theory (after spending my whole life with short hair--often pretty short--because it grew out horribly). But every year or two hormones swoop in and change the texture entirely and now I think this is happening again. Can't stand that limp hair.

Thanks for the kind words, Suz. I have held off on looking at your own assessment because there's always so much to digest in what you write. I need to be able to leisurely read and process it.

I think we may indeed want the same bag. Zap posted a really nice one in New York after our shopping jaunt. I think, though, with a bag I will REALLY feel that little pit-a-pat of the heart if it's the right one! It's too bad that I had a similar reaction to a Marc Jacobs bag I saw on consignment once (and never got the model). That was in the days when spending one-third that amount was about as much as I could deal with. It was The Bag That Got Away for sure.

FAB times 1000. I love the outfits, love the ponderings, and love the smile most of all! To me, you already have that romantic RATE highwayman's style....with a bit of Bess, the innkeeper's daughter thrown in. And you are well on your way to cementing it in a new and fitter body!

I can see you in that haircut Zap posted. Also in ink blues.

I hear you about summer style. It is SO tough.

How do our Australian sisters do it?

Can we go bag shopping together? We want the same bag.

First of all, here's my favorite 2012 outfits that I posted so late, they got lost in the shuffle (edited to add that I have re-posted them a few posts down):

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ere/page/4

As I said, I was quite happy to have come such a long way in a short time, and manage to throw together a decent number of fun outfits from a small wardrobe.

What I've realized over this year (in a very random progression):

I like skinnies and tall boots.

I don't want to spend a great deal of time in the morning pondering over what to wear. I am absolutely grab-and-go. So this emphasizes even more the importance of getting wardrobe flow wherein the various pieces have a synergy with each other.

I am still not sure how big a wardrobe I want...I do talk the talk about not having a huge, complicated amount of clothing to keep track of (and have to spend money to buy). On the other hand I don't think I want a minimalist-sized wardrobe either. Something in-between.

I realize that I'm very lucky that I only work from home, will probably never again work in an office or uniform-y type of setting, and can buy things based completely on how they please me (and our crazy New England climate).

I am thinking that I want my focus in terms of cost and attention to quality to be on footwear and jackets. And in terms of detail or flair, I would want the eye to focus in on interesting detail in the construction and fabric of the jacket. I don't feel a need to emphasize or go for complicated silhouettes for trousers or shirts. A nice subdued t-shirt or blouse would usually make me very happy. I also suspect that it's very unlikely I will ever be willing to spend a lot on jeans.

I'm not big on pattern. I do really love abstract pattern and soft gradations of color (heathering, such as in sweaters and some jeans and t-shirts).

I am much more accepting of the importance to walk away if it doesn't fit well.

Like Suz and others here, I am now not feeling like I wasted my time if I look at a lot of stuff and don't purchase anything.

I have definitely crossed a threshold with what I'm willing to pay for shoes and boots, and also I've come to see this as a great investment that ups my style game exponentially.

I realize that I'm more of a shoe than bag collector. I just find it a pain to switch my stuff between bags that often, and they take up huge amounts of space. I do appreciate how much work they do to structure a look.

I'm still unclear on how much I want to incorporate accessories. I love how Angie basically doesn't wear them (jewelry, anyway), but haven't decided yet whether I can pull off a similar look that needs no extra adornment. In the meantime, I have gotten completely tired of my small assortment of necklaces. Probably time to buy an investment cuff also.

I love color as we all do, but I really love monotonal ensembles I have seen many of you rock here. I would like to start a challenge of trying to use less color contrast and more texture to make my outfits compelling.

Speaking of color, I have more of an idea which colors flatter me and which I love: olive/khaki, bronze, charcoal grey, all different blues, cream and white, burgundy, plum, cherry red for shoes and bags!

I'm immune to a lot of trends. Or perhaps it's also that I have such basic wardrobe holes that I'm not seduced by them yet.

Quality quality quality. I love things that are really well made, especially when you can feel the weight of the fabric and see the workmanship. I am put off by things that are cheaply mass-produced and flimsy-looking, even if they're trendy and cool-looking otherwise.

I'm doing much much better at not buying things a bit smaller than I can immediately wear. Not perfect, but almost there.

I realize that in the summer, all bets are off on me attempting any type of style. On most days I am an outdoorsy, grubby slob. I wonder if I should try to improve here but part of me thinks, "Eh."

I'm more accepting of Team Full Price. This is very big for me. I realize from the (relatively small, but important) amount of stuff I got this year, that I now have a decent working wardrobe I never would have had if I were still latching onto my insistence on buying everything discounted.

I still spend too much time online looking at things--even without a particular intention to buy--but it's getting a lot better. And I'm something of an obsessive so it's inevitable to a degree.

Random resolutions:

Post more WIWs or at least document more of my outfits.

Get my hair healthy and shiny. Maybe go for keratin treatments. Stop picking at the split ends. If hair won't cooperate, maybe cut it short (trying to avoid this last one, but this is tempting me at the moment...)

Wear a little eyeliner on a regular basis. I'm just lazy.

Buy some kind of investment bag (by my definition--not a Birkin!) that will elevate anything I wear and go with everything.

Find and wear ink blue--for some reason I'm behind the trend here.

Be much more methodical about shopping and not emotion-driven. Or at least have some discipline. I am by no means a shopping addict or in danger of racking up debt, but a few decisions I've made recently have concerned me...even when I liked the item.

Of course, I want to de-orphan a few items.

Find chunky heels that are comfortable and incorporate them into everyday use. I love androgynous, masculine shoes but also want to have something of a (strong) feminine vibe as well.

Reconfigure my closet and have all my shoes and boots in one place (currently they're stored in two different rooms).

Continue to thank everyone here for all the kindness, humor, support, inspiration, education and amazing style you all supply by the boatloads here!

Sure I've left a lot out, but that's a good start.

Here's to a stellar 2013!
