I haven't fully formed any new year's resolutions quite yet.

I think mine would be to step away from sales. Past experience has shown that I have issues passing up a "really great deal" and those deals don't blend seamlessly into my wardrobe.

Quit buying repeats of stuff that I already don't wear much. I talk myself into it using the following argument: the reason I'm not wearing (certain beloved item) is because I just love it too much to wear it out/possibly damage it. Therefore, I should pick up this near-duplicate of the beloved item, because having a backup would make me wear the original more.

Except it doesn't happen....9 times out of 10 I don't wear the original any more often and usually the backup item doesn't get used either.

I'm with Betty, I love Shedev's #1 and i think I'm stealing it.

Otherwise I am rolling over the ones I developed last year.

1. Put my eyebrows on EVERY morning. Preferably lipstick too; but that says She is wearing makeup. Eyebrows say Listen to what she says.

2. No more buying: blazers, jeans, pencil skirts; I have more than I could wear in a year given my lifestyle. Since I can always find an exception (see: navy wide-stripe tube skirt), this also means Don't put myself in the way of temptation.

3. No more buying uncomfortable footwear.

4. I can't have too many: black pants, white shirts, menswear prints, Breton stripes, or tartan.

5. Get my clothes ready the night before. Physically, not just in my head.

6. Don't be afraid to repeat exactly an outfit with High Happiness Factor. (This is new to me this year.)

7. Find new ways to have fun with my scarf collection. Let my brooches come out to play more. And try to work in some of my beloved hats.

If something I've had my eye on comes on sale and I know I'll wear it a lot, I snatch it up. I don't buy on sale just because something's discounted, but I do keep my eyes peeled for true bargains.

Not straying from my persona is one of the best resolutions I've read.

I was just thinking about this! I am really in a state of flux with my wardrobe so I'm going to try my best to be minimal in my purchasing this year. My youngest DD just turned 1 and I should be done nursing within the next few months. That means a possible weight shift (I tend to gain a little) and no more nursing friendly restrictions. Another big one is that my workplace just went casual - meaning jeans all week long. This is a huge one for me and I'm tempted to run out and make a bunch of fun purchases but I'm going to try to wear what I have (which is plenty) to get a better idea of where I want to go style-wise. So I was just thinking about putting a restriction on myself of one purchase a month. The exception might be at the beginning of a season if I need to beef up some basics.

It's so inspiring to read your resolutions. Food for thought and targeted inspiration for me! My two Aussie pups aren't yet old enough for agility training but that's exactly what drew me to getting them. So far, I find that my 'dog' clothes stay relatively clean around my own dogs but there's lots of hard wear and dirt at training sessions and dog parks, other dogs jumping up on me, galloping over my shoes, slobbering so I'm not expecting longevity for most items. Thank goodness petite sizes are (barely) available in fashionable athletic wear.

Here's my specifics: Athleta stretch fleece winter tights lack big pockets but are wind- and water-resistant, perfect in rain, chill and snow. Eddie Bauer WeatherEdge 4 pocket utility jacket is a workhorse. A new fleece hat liner tucked inside a wool baseball cap covers my ears and keeps me warm for snowy, windy walks. Merino socks, always. And in good weather, Lucy Get Going active capri and pant have deep pockets, stretchy, comfortable and fashionably slouchy. I absolutely love my capris in hot weather.

I'm eager to see how your resolutions develop in the new year :)

Great list. I, too, find the lack of pockets in most athletic gear to be annoying. I bought a pullover top at Target last year that has a large zippered pocket in the back (sort of like where the gear pocket would be in a bicycle gear top) that is big enough for a phone, keys, money, etc. Good luck on finding items that fill all your needs.

AT -- check out Athleta for pants for your dog agility activities. I have a couple of pairs of pants from them that bridge casual-active functions really well. They have different weights for different seasonal/weather needs, and they all have pockets. They look good enough for public wear but I can also clean the house, walk the dogs, even go for a run in them.

I use an old black leather fanny pack with a zipper pocket. It holds phone and essentials yet I can use a pocket for dog treats.
I read maybe in one of Inge's posts that riding hats were becoming stylish and thought that was brilliant as they have a bit of a bill for sun but would be warmer than a visor or baseball cap.

Great list! I'd also like to wear my vintage jewelry more frequently and restock my field gear. I hear you on the need for lots of pockets! When I walked dogs at our local Humane Society I wore my gym clothes and never figured out a good way to manage all the treats and keys and bags. I'm going to be thinking about some specific suggestions for you. I'm updating my field gear and there is some overlap in what both of us need.

That's a very comprehensive list of resolutions, and all make good sense. I'm totally with you on wearing a little make-up even if no-one else will see. I feel undressed without mine, even though it's very understated to fit my mostly- casual lifestyle.
I haven't made any resolutions yet, which probably means that I need to get into my closet for a complete re-evaluation. Thanks for the nudge!

My resolution is to stop buying clothes for my business career as I'll be retired in 2016. I love blazers and won't be wearing them as much when I'm retired...especially my spring and summer ones. My pants, shirts and sweaters will fit into my new lifestyle but I won't need any suited type looks. Which is a shame because I love to dress up! I was looking into some volunteer opportunities and one required that you wear a polo shirt with a logo on it. ( local hospital) . Well, I crossed that right off my list!

JAileen -- I have a 2 year old smallish Aussie! We're not nearly as serious about agility as you are, but may start going to a class in the spring because he does enjoy it. My mom used to go to trials with her dogs when I was younger; lots of fun!

My thought for an agility wardrobe would be to check out some of the more fashion-forward outdoor brands. PrAna pants might work well (not the yoga ones, but the hiking ones), and they usually have cute hoodies and jackets too. Ditto Toad&Co, Royal Robbins, Gramicci, or Arcteryx and Patagonia (if you're willing to spend a little more). 6pm.com often has great discounts on these brands, Sierra Trading Post too.

For So Cal weather, I'd think jeans plus a utility jacket w/ lots of pockets (Orvis??) would work most of the time, since there's not too much precip or humidity.

JAileen- I have a Dalmatian (semi retired) and a 3 yr old smallish Aussie. At agility trials outdoors on grass, sometimes dirt, always dirt parking, sometimes porta potties, and from 7AM to as late as 6PM-in my So. Cal area where temps vary as much as 30 degrees during that time-So layering is necessary-t shirts-long or short sleeves-sweat shirts, hoodies, various weight jackets..need pockets for dog treats, hand sanitizer, prefer zipper pockets for car keys, money, Clothing has to stand up to mud, grass stains, and not tear on wire dog crates, metal framing to put up shade canopy etc. Have to be able to run, lift, haul, bend, load and unload the car, sit on ground and folding chair, pull up and down easy for the porta potties, and shoes need to be able to run and have traction on the sometimes wet grass. Also have to be commfortable to wear for the 12 plus hour days. Also a baseball hat or visor is necessary in addition to sun glasses sometimes. It is hard to get all this stuff color coordinated, hard to find stretchy track pants or such with pockets, good jackets with zipper pockets, and the like. Most nice athletic gear has no pockets, is made for stuff like the gym, etc. so I find it not quite what I want. and everything has to be durable, undergo lots of washings and not cost a bundle.

I like both your resolutions always trying and Joy.
I haven't got any myself yet, beyond finding a few lost clothes items (eg I can't find a top I wore only once!!) and learning to use the flat irons I got as a present for Christmas.

I enjoyed reading your resolutions and appreciate how detailed most are.
My main resolution/challenge is to downsize my wardrobe, anticipating a move to a smaller place, yet still keep enough variety to be happy and prepared for any occasion or weather.
This means doing very little shopping and choosing very carefully when I do buy. My goal is to get every season into one small closet. Wish me luck.

For the new year I am going to:

1. concentrate more on quality and longevity than I have in the past.

2. wear more jewelry, particularly vintage pearls and broaches, even if they are not trending any more.

3. Not buying anything that it is on sale, or a good bargain, unless it is something that will get a fair amount of wear. Even spending as little as $20.00 is a waste if it stays in the closet.

4. always have plan B when planning what to wear for a special occasion so I will not be stuck if the weather or something makes plan A unwise or not practical.

5. Not worry about what everyone else will be wearing -just do my own thing-at least sometimes..

6. try to incorporate items that are seldom worn into new outfits, finding new ways to wear them, etc.

7. continue to evaluate and purge !!!!

8. branching out with colors. I bought a big red sweater for the holidays-wore it to two parties as I just loved wearing it. Red has ben a color I seldom wore before. This has inspired me to wear more red, and also try other bright and stand out colors!

9. Upgrading my dog agility sport wardrobe. This is my almost everyday activity that needs some work to make me more fashionable. -This will be a bit of a challenge.

10. wear a bit of make up every day even if only the dogs see me!

Thanks for reading-and maybe I have inspired you to make some too.
