Actually, the darkening is not as bad as it looks. But I also need to exchange the lighter booties for a smaller size so I will probably have to return both and then try another pair, which may have more uniform color. I can see how if you are an apple (hard to believe) the white stripe might make you feel self-conscious, but from what I see, the whole effect is very flattering and easy. </p> <p>The booties: I don't know what to suggest. Mine also have a slight darkening at the toes but it does not look that extreme. Yes, it has a horizontal white stripe --- but it's a great, easy fit in the torso and the eye knows it's fabric, not "you," if you understand what I mean. Also, the camera is really magnifying this effect (which is why people rarely wear white on TV). I think the skimming effect minimizing your "apple." </p> <p>As for the booties -- I think the gap is part of their charm. I prefer the sand for skirts without tights, but the cognac would do well in fall/winter. I think this dress is very pretty, and the colors are refreshing, so it is hard to judge objectively whether it is flattering. I only picked up on the fact that the white stripe looked odd when I tried layering a white shirt under, so I am glad that both you and Scarlet pointed out that it may generally be problematic. It's always good to have the sharp-eyed YLFabers examining the photos. :)</p> <p>I noticed with another pair of suede booties (not these) that the tips were also darker, and that differences was often greatly exaggerated in the photos. I think the toe darkening is just a question of your personal taste. I like things distressed, but if you like things more polished, then maybe it's not the right style for you. From these outfits it does seem like your style is polished. Check Aldo--I think they might be selling a similar style. I think the ankle gap is fine. It's supposed to be like that. The dress is a 9 in my eyes. Any thoughts are welcome - I am completely open to returning all of these, if they are not perfect.</p> <p>As Suz has said, the booties are amazingly comfortable considering the 3 inch heel, and the price was great (about $55). However, they did not have all colors and sizes so I have "sand" booties that are half a size too big and "cognac" booties that fit perfectly. I think if want to wear these sans hose, I need to find "sand" (lighter color) in a smaller size. On the other hand, the lighter pair has strange discoloration/darkening on the tip of each shoe. Any issues with the "ankle gap"?</p> <p>The dress is very nice but perhaps a tad short for work. Also, as an apple, I always wonder whether sheath dresses are a good idea. On the other hand, the colorblocking is great, and I love orange. </p>
