And really, it was on a remote shelf way in the back of the hardware store where the bottles were all dusty, so it's not like it's flying off their shelves!</p> <p>I should not have suggested that Goo Gone is environmentally unsound. I think the "DANGER: Contains petroleum distillates," and "DANGER: HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED" warnings gave me a scare, but who knows? The same might be the case with Simply Green for all I know. Where has it been all my life? Last summer when I was coming home from a vacation in Hawaii, the airport slapped a sticky tag on the handle of my suitcase that left goo all over it. Nothing worked to get the goo off, and every time I picked up the suitcase, I got goo all over my hands. I'm pretty sure the issue of those white marks that surface all over the Hunter Wellington boots has been discussed here on the YLF Forum before. I have a pair of Wellies that have been blooming with the white marks and have found Internet threads suggesting everything from olive oil to Armor All to get rid of the marks. One of the solutions I saw posted was a combination of McNett UV Tech spray and/or a product called "Goo Gone." </p> <p>Anyway, last night on my way home from work, I discovered a big, sticky wad of gum on the bottom of my black leather briefcase bag! (I must have set it down somewhere without looking first.) Since I'd been planning to look for Goo Gone anyway, I decided to stop in at my neighborhood hardware store to see if they carried it. Luckily, they did, and Eureka! Goo Gone not only rid my handbag of the disgusting gum, but it shined up my Wellies beautifully all by its lonesome, and there are no signs of blooming on them this morning!</p> <p>Goo Gone may not be the most environmentally friendly product, and the label warns not to use it on leather or rubber, but so far, I've seen no negative consequences from having done so. I did sponge both the handbag and Wellies off with a dampened paper towel with a little mild dish soap afterwards to try to get rid of any toxic residue left by the Goo Gone. But I'm really pleased with the success of this, as I thought the handbag was a goner! </p>
