(I’m trying to reinterpret recent ylf comments that I don’t have rules as a compliment, that I wear what I wear well enough that the other stuff isn’t missed. Unlikely accurate, but it sounds nice). I’m not going to try to list them all. I don’t need to remind myself not to buy things like earth colors, acrylic, big lapels, or cold shoulder tops. These are things that tempt me but then don’t get worn:</p> <p>•Bold graphic patterns like stripes or polka dots. I feel oafish &amp; clown-like in them. (Or like the elephants Vildly mentioned). I stay away from most plaid for the same reason.</p> <p>•”Swingy” trapeze tops</p> <p>•Sneakers for much beyond the gym</p> <p>•Shirt dresses/shifts.</p> <p>•Too much matching; i like to have something to break the pattern &amp; offer an unexpected “pop” of whatever, so buying the barrette/watch band/other “extra” to match the set isn’t a good idea.</p> <p>•Lately I’m bizarrely attracted to high heels. For example, I’m not remotely tempted by super high waisted pants, ruffly, frilly items, ditsy prairie florals, or colors like beige or dusty rose, or neon brights.</p> <p>I do need occasional reminding that I don’t need more “dressier” items in my wardrobe unless they have casual versatility and can be worn in a way that suits my life. No more remotely office-y items (blazers for example must have some ability to be casualized or glammed or rock’n’rolled up). No shirts that must be tucked in — I just don’t wear tucked tops anymore. No bold pants — even if a pattern or color appeals to me, they make me feel self-conscious. It isn't because I am not open to new inspiration, but rather I know what I have tried over and over and know darn well it will NEVER work for me. So my list:<br />* pastels. I love the look of them in the spring, but they wash me out and make me look ill.<br />* cold shoulder tops. I see them on the rack and don't notice the cut-outs and then am disappointed. They just strike me as weird.<br />* Button-down tops. I love the idea, but I can never get them to fit properly. Additionally, I am not big on tucking.<br />* Narrow heels. I adore shoes, and I am often attracted to thin heels, but they simply aren't practical on waxed, tiled floors. I have slipped on a heel like that one too many times, so heels - at least those for work - must be wider and have rubber (sound dampening) on the soles.<br />* Empire waists. I have been pregnant, and empire waists just make me see pregnancy clothes.
