Yes, it is such a great reminder. I just received the second black skort that I wanted to try from Athleta and was thinking that *maybe* I should keep it because it fits so well and looks really good, but truth is that it's just too heavy for my hot summer climate here and I won't reach for it for that one reason alone. Next for me as well!

You make an excellent point, Unfrumped. I made a similar call recently with a new striped top (stripes are my thing). I loved the top, but on trying it on again at home I noticed that the neckline didn't lie quite flat. After running through a few possible remedies - a stitch or two at the neck, re-pressing etc. - I decided not to compromise, and took it back. I'm getting very picky in my old age!

That little voice is never wrong, is it? Great job looking at the whole picture and not getting seduced by that one detail.

Such a good point - I've been guilty of this, too - e.g., I remember stocking up on cluster stud earrings and ultimately having two favorites. Like you said, it's better to wait for "the one," and then maybe buy an exact duplicate after ascertaining it lives up to expectations.

Good for you! I know how tempting it is to keep something that has at least one highly-prized quality. It's really hard sometimes to recognize the less-than-ideal other aspects. I'm learning to do it more myself.

Unfrumped, you bring up a big temptation when stocking up, looking at one aspect and ignoring the rest. Elizabeth expressed it as well. I am guilty of this, trying to buy taupe pants and, seduced by the color, buy a size too big just because it was a color, fabric and brand that I liked. Same with blush tops. I succumbed to a low V neckline when I never wear them with my flat chest.

Congratulations UF! It really does appear that your vacation from shopping and all the reflection you have been going through has resulted in a different mindset and different habits - the ones that will result in the approach to shopping and style that you were after.

Stay strong! And like Angie says, NEXT!

Sometimes it's hard to know exactly what you are looking for, and a specific feature takes on too much importance. For you, pleats. For me, navy can do this. Good for you in realizing the halogens don't tick all the boxes, before it was too late!

Angie's post on stocking up really resonated.
After wearing pleated pants in the 80's , there was a " drought " until a few years ago, when more styles became available. I've managed to have one or 2 updated pairs on the go since, though MOST of my pants are some kind of flat front.
I have been enjoying the wide leg one by CE below both for fit and the fabric quality.
I tried to " stock up" with the other ones, the Halogens, on purpose being tapered for a different vibe. I have had some similar from Anthroplogie that worked for me.
However, after dithering a bit and even ordering another size, I finally returned them. They were a big snug if I really were honest, but too big and poufy sized up, partly because the waist and pleats hit a bit wrong; the fabric is a thicker rayon blend which would have been ok if fit were spot on. But I could tell I'd always hesitate and maybe end up not wearing because the fit was off.
Point is, I was trying too hard to go, yay more pleats, more pinstripes, when they just were not " the ones". I was so close to cutting the tags but pulled back from the brink and listened to the little voice!
It helped to try on the others alongside them. I don't so much want more wide- legs; I want the same " feel" of how they fit me better, and the fabric is so lovely. Because I could tell finally that I'd rather wear the wide legs more often and not pile up other pants that were not as good , even pleats-- but if I find some that are " the ones" I know then I would wear with confidence.
