Yes! I did this with a tee I bought online. The model wore it quite close fitting so I knew I didn't want that and went 2 sizes above my norm. It arrived today and fit superbly.

Angie thank you for posting this. I often do this, and sometime almost have an argument (politely of course) with the SA who will have tunnel vision about how something 'should' be worn:)

Greatly encouraged by your little reminder.

This is why I keep coming back to your blog Angie. This is brilliant. Such a simple idea but somehow I never "got" it until reading your blog. 90 percent of the time I fit regular size and am in the average in height and weight. I can always find off the rack clothing to fit. So when it doesn't fit....i go onto a panic and assume I have a figure flaw. I don't fit the garment -therefore, I'm weird and not at all like anyone else who apparently can wear this -otherwise why would it be in the store? Therefore
I should just wear a potatoe sack.

That logic is just nonsensical. Size doesn't matter! I want to shout that from the roof tops. If I have to go up or down a size or 2 or 3 to get the garment to work, it's not about me-it's the garment! Duh!

This lesson hit home when I purchased this dress which to me looks rather fluid and loose on the pictured model. I originally ordered it in two sizes and much preferred the smaller size which resulted in a fitted but not tight, figure flattering fit. The small sized dress looks very different from the dress pictured on the model, whereas the larger sized dress resembles the picture below.

Thanks, Angie. I have tried to follow the pictures but I never get the baggy look that they show. In order for me to get that look, the jeans would have to fall off, so I am safe from following the pictures.

I agree! This is why I sized up so often in my NAS purchases this year. I'm still loving some fluidity in my tops (more than I'm seeing in my normal size on some items), but I'm sizing down in many bottoms to keep the "slim" there.

Good reminder! This is one of the things I prefer about shopping in stores compared to online, because I can really experiment with sizing. And especially with Petite, which is not actually "me" but which I've used by sizing up in P to achieve shorter, more fluid tops for skirts. Sure, I can order multiple sizes online, but it's such a pain, would mean sometimes trying 4 sizes and then finally figuring out it won't work in any size.

Excellent advice and timely. Sometimes it means going against SAs who have their idea of how an item is supposed to fit.

I bought these cropped frayed jeans at the NAS, but went down two sizes. One, because they ran big, and two because I don't want them to look baggy like on the model. I wanted to create a tailored fit with the look - because that's what I'm in the mood for at the moment. Been wearing baggy boyfriend jeans for 3 years and am done with too fluid jeans in blue denim. (Am still wearing my streamlined white BF jeans till the cows come home though).

Soooo, a long story to remind you that you needn't be swayed by how items fit the model. Choose the way you want the item to fit your body.
