Yes, the hem frays more, but it's OK. They look so awesome. If you line dry them, it will minimize the fraying. Nice jeans!

I like the released frayed hem better than just frayed and may have to order a pair of these after my shopping fast. I am also planning to scour resale shops for a denim pencil skirt that is a bit short and so that I can let the hem down for the released hem look and to casualize a skirt. Denim skirts are my summer version of jeans. Airy and heavy enough fabric not to have to wear anything under them in heat.

I'm not buying any more frayed/released hems, even though the trend is hanging on longer than I thought. Waiting on a bow, split-hem. My fray hems that I love are Citizens. They have developed a hole on one leg in the midst of the fray hem, but I think it adds to the effect.

I find that if I hand wash and line dry my shredded pants then they stay perfectly shredded. If I want them to get more shredded, I run them through the machines.

I like this style a lot. I'm thinking of taking a lesser-worn pair of straight-leg jeans and releasing the hem and splitting it along the side seam a bit for a flared effect, which feels a bit more modern and might make me wear them more.

I have quite a few pair of jeans with this hem - they don't ravel at all. Go for it. Cool colour too.

I LOVE my fray hemmed jeans (hacked myself). They do not ravel, but only get better with washing. If you want cropped, hack them yourself!

I ordered these so fast, and from NYDJ, a brand that always works for me, that I didn't notice the frayed hem info until after I wore them for the first time today and took them off!

It's not that the look bothers me, but I'm wondering if the frayed hem will decrease the longevity of the jeans (ie, will they start unraveling, etc). Any experience with this type of detail that's worth noting?

(And of course on short-legged me, they're not cropped so I guess I have the option to hem them...though it would be a few months before my mom heads up north and I can consign them to her.) :)

Thank you.
