Great taupe/brown shades here and fun pops of color, especially the turquoise! I can't believe this is only one week later, you are doing a great job unpacking. I've been in my new place for two months and still have one room that's a "dumping ground" with items that need to be put away.

Your new apartment looks amazing, Kari! I can't believe you just moved in. I move around a lot, so I know how much work packing and getting everything set up in the new place is. High five, lady!

Ooh, I second qpswan's suggestion of matching hangers whenever you get a chance. It always makes my closet feel nicer and kind of luxurious (if that makes sense). Even if I have plain wooden dowels as closet rods. : )

My goodness, you have done an amazing amount of work!

Your place looks fantastic - my only suggestion is matching hangers for your wardrobe. I love the way they make my closet look so much tidier! Costco sells velvet covered hangers that prevent clothes from slipping off.

Well done!

WOW! Your place looks stunning Kari! You have just as great an eye for home decorating as you do for style/fashion. Love all your colours, your artwork and the personal touches. Your outfit is lovely too - with bright pops of colours and those fabulous shorts.

Your house looks lovely and cozy. You did a good job decorating.
Every time I see a picture of your wardrobes I always wonder why mine don't look like that.:)
I am a big fan of O'Keefe, as you might have guessed so I am all for using a print over the dresser. Which one were you thinking of?

Btw, love your outfit.

Congrats on the new apartment, Kari! You've done such a nice job decorating. I can't believe you're so settled in already- it would probably take me months just to get pictures on the walls.

Oh, and your WIW! You look so pretty in cobalt blue! It's a great color for you, and I love it with the yellow bag.

I love how your signature colours appear in your apartment! Talk about an integrated look!

Funny...my house is decorated in colours that are quite different from the ones I wear, and in a much more maximal style than my ideal wardrobe. Partly that's just the house itself - an old 19th century house with detailing. And partly it is living with hubs and my daughter, whose tastes are not quite the same.

Finally, B. and I are all moved in, and are *nearly* all the way unpacked. I'm bumming around the house (but need to duck out to run some errands) and am wearing my ponte knit black Karen Kane bermudas, a cobalt knit/woven button-down, a black camisole, leopard pumps, and a faux-coral necklace with my mustard handbag.

Since some of you asked to see pictures of how I ended up decorating the place, I'm including a short "tour" here of how it looks today. (Keep in mind, this is nowhere near the caliber of photography or decorating from what you'd see on Apartment Therapy; but considering that we just moved last weekend, I'm pretty proud of how far we've come!)
I posted this earlier but didn't realize until now that "Off Topic" posts don't show up in the feed of latest posts, so I deleted that one and reposted it here so that it could actually be seen. Feel welcome to skip past if it's not your thing, though - it's quite a lot of content!

First, the living, dining area:
3. Living room. The couch is older than I am; my parents' first hide-a-bed couch that they purchased after they got married. It's actually still in great shape, but the mauve fabric is faded (and dated.) I have a chocolate brown stretch velvet slipcover that fits nicely over the couch, and bought a matching one to cover the cozy structured armchair that my grandpa passed on to me after he moved into a smaller place. I also have a dark chocolate brown leather ottoman where I store blankets in.
The artwork is a mix of canvas poster art (some of which I decoupaged onto canvas myself) and framed art prints that my late grandma made from her etchings.
4. My desk, on the side wall of the living room. When I sit at my desk, the front door is directly down the hall to my left; just behind me, facing the couch, is the wall where we'll put a TV/entertainment center after we buy one. In between the living room and front door is a HUGE walk in closet. (See #9 for a relatively-to-scale floorplan.)
Even with the desk, the living room is quite spacious and open. I think I may move the drawer unit elsewhere - perhaps to a closet or to B's office/the spare bedroom. I'm still playing around with the idea.
5. Just behind the couch and facing the living room windows/sliding door to the porch is the little reading nook. I just got this beautiful peacock blue upholstered chair, which is very cozy; however, I'm thinking about using this chair for my computer desk instead since it's SO comfortable, and instead, using a taupe suede swivel chair that belonged to my parents for the reading corner. The table unit that's in back of the couch is a cheap, flimsy table that we'll replace with a long, low bookshelf, and I'll put some of my nicer hard-bound books on it to create a small library area. (Most of my books are on shelves in the back of our main hallway, facing the spare bedroom.)

6. Dining area: this is where I've been taking most of my WIW photos this past week. We don't have a microwave in our kitchen yet, so we may get a nice, sturdy microwave stand and put it in the left-hand corner; in that case, the brown, round table would probably move to the reading nook, or to the desk area.

7. Facing the kitchen next to the front door, there's an alcove set back where we have our DVDs, and I put a director's chair for guests to sit down to take off their shoes. I bought a copy of the same art print that you see in #4 but cut it apart in squares to decoupage on small, square canvases.

Master bedroom:
8. Bed, and another tie rack with necklaces to the right
9. The wall facing the bed. More art decoupaged onto canvas surrounding an art print of my grandma's, a small mirror, a porcelain mask that my sister brought back from Venice, and a bamboo tie rack on the wall used to hang and display necklaces.
10. Inside my walk in closet. I have a bamboo hamper below my jackets (and structured suitcases are stored below as well); on the shelves above, I have off-season clothes and handbags stored (the nicer bags are stored in duster bags.) The closet is moderately sized; it's bigger than it looks here because my view was blocked by the door frame.
In a section of the large sliding-door closet in our hallway, there are some built in shelves where I have my shoes stored (stacked in their original boxes; I'll tape photos of the shoes on the outside of the boxes to make them easy to identify), and that's also where my scarves and belts are hung.
11-12: Close up of jewelry storage in my bedroom
13: Dresser and jewelry armoire; the drawer in the little table is where my glasses/cleaning accessories are stored.

12: Floorplan that's pretty close to scale of the entire apartment. The second bedroom/B's office is the space that needs the most work; right now, we only have B's desk in the room, but we're going to bring over a futon that my uncle wants to get rid of that can double as a couch or guest bed, and try to think of some ways to make the room a functional, creative space.

While I'd originally thought about painting the walls, they actually have it painted some pretty neutral shades that I like with my art/furniture; I especially love the warm brown accent walls. So for now, I think I'll leave the paint alone.

I will probably add more mirrors and art to the spaces that don't have them (like over the dresser in my bedroom, and certainly in the spare room where the walls are currently bare.) I'm thinking of getting a Georgia O'Keeffe poppy art print for over the dresser in the bedroom, a full-length mirror to hang on the wall at the end of the hallway, and perhaps some funky vintage posters featuring the Seattle area for the second bedroom/B's hideaway.

We're still playing around, so suggestions are welcomed!
