Angie, I am made for shopping in the US! So few brands that I know do petite in the UK. Those are really super suggestions, thank you.

Thank you KKards and Fashintern. Thank you CardiffGirl, absolutely, got to share the dress shopping!

Thank you Karen13, thats a super dress!

It is an odd design to my eye Bijou. The leopard print dress is super. I am thinking I need to do ShopBop to be able to buy the US brands. I am going to look into the import taxes and returns.

ChristinaF, I would be fiddling all day long and a crumpled mess only a short time after leaving the house.

Roberta, yes, I do agree, smaller all round would have been great.

Avdan, Angie does indeed rock!

Thank you Isabel, yes, 'meh' is right.

Thank you Elizabeth, I think it more than hesitation, but good idea and I will keep in mind next time I am hesitating.

Thank you Janet. Ahh, okay, that's interesting - not necessarily height related!

Thank you Cobaltblue. Yes, I like midis.

Isabel the draping is pretty, and feminine, kind of almost 1940's ish.

I agree to pass. It had great potential with some nice drape, but just not quite right. The gaps would also annoy me.

Agreeing that petite proportions would probably suit you better because the torso looks too long from the back. At first glance, though, having not seen the back, etc., I thought it was a lovely choice for you. I like this combination of draping and structure and think it's very flattering.

Ah, such a shame since it looks like a promising style. I have the “too long in the top” problem ALL THE TIME and it kills most dresses for me because I’m 5’7” so definitely not petite. This one does look too long on you all around, and the back is just weird. Good luck finding another one in a similar style — it seems like this vibe is trending now so hopefully something great will turn up!

To Fashintern, it’s not that I think the overall dress length is too long; I was referring to the fit on the torso. Jane could definitely wear the right midi!

Although... I think the bottom back gap could easily be sewn shut. It looks like it follows the zipper line. If that was your only hesitation, I'd ask someone who sews.

I'm sorry the dress doesn't work - such a great print! I thought the neck keyhole was too long as well. To my eye, a petite version would have been smashing.

BUT - I loooved Angie's inspirations! So fun to have them pop up in the middle of a post like that.

Yes, sadly, it doesn't seem like this dress, with the weird back, would be good for a work environment. I assume that's what you'd want it for, mostly. You'd be fussing with it and self conscious. Lovely from the front, though!

It looks good from the front, but with a back like that, there is no way I would buy it - it does not make sense to have an open back on a dress like this. In addition, the fabric looks like it would crush easily and after a long day in the office, you don't want to feel all rumpled. You can definitely find better dresses than this.

I love the Shopbop Leopard Print dress that Angie has suggested - a great style and print.

I disagree with those who said it's too long. I like long skirts and think the fit is perfect. You wear pencil skirts so well. But I don't think you should get it. Even if you don't take your jacket off, the knowledge that you couldn't, combined with the loop in front, would make you feel self-conscious and distracted in it all day long, when you want to focus on work.

Check out petites! I am 5'2" and almost always have to get petite tops, dresses and jackets - anything that has a defined waist or fitted upper body. Armscye fit and sleeve length are also a frequent problem. But I am a 'tweener in pants lengths - petites are often too short to wear with a 1.25" heel. So you kind of have to try a lot of different things. And there will always be the exception that proves the rule - this dress was not a petite and I almost didn't try it on. Ended up loving it!

Angie so kindly suggested I try this dress. I ordered on line and collected and tried on in the store. Sadly they didn’t have a pressed one in the store.

I like it, not quite in love with it, except that at the back, there are two ‘gaps’ so I’m not sure this is really going to be helpful to me. I don’t really know what a flash of my ‘bare’ back might look like but somehow it doesn’t feel quite right? Front is okay, back skirt is okay with the right undies. Length may be a bit off. Needs lighter tights probably.

I’d be super grateful for your thoughts.
