I think it's just a matter of picking proportions that you like that work for you; and determining how far into Fashion vs. Flattery you wish to go. That Zara page shows primarily higher-shaft booties, by the way, a more trendy pairing. You've got longer legs so you'll have a little extra lengths room to play with.

I think the cropped lengths with the taller shaft booties look the best for fall/winter wear. Either flared cropped or not.

That was an education. I guess every length can work depending on your footwear and personal taste.

Yes it is definitely a matter of taste. For me the wider the hem the higher the shoe (all the way up to about 2 inches).

I like the longer ones and the drapier ones best, and a very limited or no gap between boot and pant edge. Also a wider flare (that's my quibble with my genetic jeans, as I was telling Elisabeth, they're not as flared as I would have thought.)

I agree with Lisa. Find what you like and wear it. I posted a pair awhile ago and most people said to cut 6 or so inches off. I couldn't do it. I like my wide legged cropped trousers just above my ankles. Nerdy looking. I have been wearing that look for a few years. With clunky shoes.

I felt nostalgic looking at the pictures from Zara. I did love that look from my past.

I bought a pair a while back and wore them once. I have pulled them out of the closet at least once a week and tried various tops/shoes and put them back each time. I want to make it work too but can't seem to figure it out. Based on the number of threads on YLF about length, width and footwear for this trend, I have concluded that it is just one of the more challenging looks to figure out. It is starting to feel like too much effort and perhaps is taking the fun out of fashion for me.

I hope you figure it out. :)

I remember something about shorts and boots proportion, like the shorter the short the shorter the boot should be.
Maybe some kind of relation applies here too.

To try to extend my current culottes to fall-booties, I am going to wear these Munro boots that have a narrow shaft (pic below). While not pointy, they are somewhat streamlined in shape.

I agree with CocoLion, the oxford or high-vamped shootie with the longer, wider culotte is too clunky for me.

If I were to buy warmer culottes, such as wool or tweedy version, I would probably target them just a bit shorter, and also presumably they would be less full, in a winter fabric, than these which are drapey poly, and wear with tights and either a similar boot or, if I had them, do more of the gaucho pant look with a taller boot and the culotte covering it.

I agree with Lisap - pick your sweet spot and just go for it. My favourite of the Zara looks is the white peplum top worn with black cropped trousers and what looks like high shaft black boots. It's got that " column of colour, makes me look taller " vibe.

I see everything on the Zara page. Oxfords, mules, ankle boots and mid-calf boots. It seems, anything goes. My least favorite is one with a longer culotte and a shoetie type silhouette but that's probably just personal. It seems like the uglier the look, the potentially cooler it's going to be. That jolie laide thing, I think Angie also blogged about it as the hip to be square trend.

Yes, this whole look is tricky. to pull off. Too much work for me, but a good fashion challenge for anyone who's up for it! I think you just have to experiment a lot with length and width, plus have the right shoes to make it work. I like the longer, narrower ones better than the shorter and wider ones, but that's just me.

This whole issue of pant length ( including current posts about cropped kick flare jeans ) is interesting - and all I take away from it is that it's totally up to the wearer. This is proven by all of the different lengths on the Zara page . I personally prefer the versions that are called cropped trousers rather than the shorter culotte versions , but that is entirely a personal thing. I think you can pick whichever look you're after and go for it! In terms of which shoes look better with pant length? Ah - again, just go with what you like on your own leg. That's my story and I'm sticking to it

Or culottes or whatever you call them! I have gotten lots of different feedback on pairs I've posted, and I would really like to make this look work for winter so I can have a different silhouette in my closet. But the whole idea of what length is best seems to be a real debate.

Here is a whole page of looks from Zara - various lengths styled with various shoes in various ways. Which ones look right or wrong to you and why?
