ah, yes, the list! It is indispensable when on SYC or even SYB as I am. I have tweaked my list several times, but having it there is comforting while I wait for the 'right' items to come along. I'll say this year has been the best shopping year yet for me, mostly due to my quite specific list.
Yay for holding strong with your SYC!

How funny! I love the title of your post.
I used to use the shopping cart like a wish list, putting things in and leaving them there after I left the site. Zappos would send me an email saying, hey, what about us here, in your shopping cart? Did you forget us? I found it amusing.
I like the wishlist option, because so I often find my desire for a particular item is quite fleeting. I have much more willpower with online shopping than I do in person. If I'm trying to watch my spending, I just really have to stay out of the stores. The other day, I came home with a pair of sandals after going into a cool shoe store that I hadn't visited for a long time. Did I need (another pair of) sandals? In Seattle?? I do love them, and I'm hoping we'll have at least a few days that I can wear them this year.

Peri;
Store web sites and Amazon have Wish Lists. Some of us move things there and watch for markdowns or sometimes see something go out of stock and then back again. I have learned to keep items from Nordstrom on my Wish List even after I have ordered and received them because they are sometimes marked down, and if I know about the markdown I can ask for an adjustment. I have a Halogen (Nordstrom brand) sweater and skirt that expect eventually to be marked down because their in-house stuff usually is. It is easy to move things from a Wish List to the site Shopping Cart.

I also have a list apart from my web site Wish List(s).

Oh, what I meant to say was, are your wish lists general, or are you talking about things you've actually looked at and liked and have to resist buying? That is so hard!

Funny...I'm with Suz, needing to feel okay with buying more. Wish lists are hard for me though. Seems I dream up the perfect item I am looking for but never find it in a store. Are your wish lists like that or are they more general?

Wishlists all the way! I am finding wishlists help to reduce my returns. Do I still want it after two weeks or so have gone by? Or have other pretty things come o to the list making the original a it paler in comparison?

Yay, Nicole! That's great!

I find it so interesting to see how different our journeys can be. Some come to YLF needing to rein in the shopping a bit (either for budgetary reasons or because they need to pay attention to what's already in the closet) and others need to learn to loosen the purse strings a bit. I fall into the latter category (well...I didn't really have a purse before and finally started earning enough to consider shopping a bit more...so that was part of it.) But whichever side of the fence we begin on, we all have to learn to find a balance. And it can be surprisingly challenges to go against our natural inclinations.

..so that's what a wishlist is for! Previously, items I liked and wanted went someplace else - the shopping cart. Now that I am on SYC, I have been putting things on a wishlist. Maybe they will be sold out by the time SYC is done, or maybe I just won't want them any more. Will be interesting to see! Almost two weeks in and holding.
